I'm going to rescape my tank for the first time. Regarding filter, will it be ok to just turn it off for few hours till scape is ready and tank re-filled with water? Thank you!
@@matt01506 thank you for advice, but I am mostly worried about bacteria in my filter (seachem matrix 3 kg), what will happen if no flow and oxygen for couple of hours?
@@wheelerzg76 off for a couple of hours will do no damage at all. I've had tanks off for over a day with no issues. Wouldn't go over that though. If I do, I treat the tank as if it's brand new. Might not be the case but better to be safe than sorry

I remember when this tank was finished, somebody commented it would be rebuilt in half a year. I responded that it's too big to rework that frequently. Clearly the other person knows MD better than I do. 😂

@@johnnyalfonso3531I have to really like it to be over 6 months or consider it not finished. I love my mbuna tank for instance and was finished on day 1 but is perfect for the fish, they are growing like crazy and love the look so that will stay...might re-adjust the arrangement though 😂

I recently scaped my 120L and showed a LFS. They looked at it and said “you watch MD don’t you” 😂. This re-scape will look mega!!

I'm pretty much in the same boat. :D A 4g, 9g & a 20g - all rimless & planning a 75g tank because of this channel primarily.
Though I'm going for a CineScape jungle look with emersed plants like peace lilies, pothos & crotons on a rustic (Tiki-style_ stand.
Yes!!! This is exactly why I do it...well after earning a living and providing for my family of course. I aim to create tanks of all sizes that people think "I can have a go at that". Hopefully they get a good result on one tank and then I know...they are in. Got the bug!
Hahahaa, yes! Me too! AND I got my husband interested in what I was doing building it and the fish. He thinks I'm crazy bc I said I need to break down the big tank and rebuild it. I have a 29g, two 5g and a 3g 😂

Always delighted to see the notification for your channel pop up MD. I have had aquariums off and on since I was a teenager. Now I'm 66 and have 2 fresh water tanks and 2 outside ponds with Goldfish, which btw are fantastic algae eaters, I've had the tanks and ponds for several years now. Was going to fade them out until I found your channel. They are nothing like yours, of course. But they're natural scapes. I've always disliked the fake stuff. You're very talented and you are a joy to watch because of your calm demeanor and your funny antics. I have learned a lot , And your family is very lovely. Thank you for the decent content. I don't comment very often. I leave that to the younger generation. By the way, I have used API products since I set up my tanks. It was nice to see you promote them. Thank you
I love the compromise two-island scape you're planning! That will be perfect for both fish behavior and viewing. Thanks for bringing us along through the process with you... and extra thanks to Kate, who we all know is the MVP in keeping those floors tidy and free of tripping hazards so you can use more of your time creating! Get a werner folding trestle, so much more stable and allows you to work on a greater area of the tank without having to constantly climb up and down and move the ladsers back and forward

I have a similar tank, though not as big. Check your FX6 filters for fry - I am always pulling fry out of both my FX6, pulled six this morning. I now have another tank with around 40 to 50 mixed fry in
I think painting the background would be nice. The Amazon basin doesn't have crystal clear water, more like black water, but I'm sure you already know that.
Nice video! I am happy that you did not take out the substrate. It would have been a pity with all the established bacteria. Honestly, I think you do not even need to scoop out the fish. I rearranged things 100 times with fish in and it does not harm them at all, even if it gets a bit cloudy. Many fish even like it anf enjoy hunting the tiny particles😁
as a salt water guy I watch your FW vids from time to time. was gonna to a 200 gal. planted tank. but man the FW world is wild. I found it hard to find the info i needed, the wood and even plants in bulk in the US was very hard.
so went back to SW. but these nice planted tanks are very beautiful for sure.

I also have a tank with Amano shrimp in it. It is a fully fresh water tank - no salt whatsoever. I had heard the same regarding the brackish water and the breeding of Amano shrimps, but for the last year maybe - the tank have been setup for 3-4 years in total - some of the young have started surviving the larvae state and has begun growing up 👍 Not many survive - perhaps 2-3 shrimplets from each batch. But taking into consideration how often the females get buried, it is very good 👍 The population is, at least, self-sustaining...
Nothing special about the water, except maybe a high TDS (480-520). I do a 50% water change when needed - maybe every 3 months. The tank is a sort of plant holding tank, so mostly the Amano, a pair of red bristlenose, a couple of other plecos, 3 entlers, snails and a blue Congo tetra i can't catch 🙂

Hey MD I was curious if you thought about getting an aluminum work platform for the 8ft. I use it at my work for such heights and it helps a ton.
I love the aquascaping concept u will b using i have a 6 foot tank and its been running around 3 years. I just put 4 small keyhole cichlids in and they school with my tetras just a great cichlid

I am always so impressed with your ability to net all of the fish out of the tank. I guess the trick is lowering the water level significantly so there’s no way for them to swim over the net. I have a few fish left in my tank downstairs that I’ve had the most difficult time catching (so frustrating!). I’ve been wanting to put them in the new tank for over a month, 1 day I will catch them I have faith! 😂

@@MDFishTankskeeping discus means you have to increase the temp of the water, and then you are limited on plants. I think that's why your discus struggled, the temp was too low for them

Timmy is cute, he’s one of the smallest American species. The only aquatic turtle found naturally in Europe and now in the UK thanks to reintroduction programs is the European Pond Turtle. Any other aquatic turtles (especially the Red Eared Sliders) are invasive species from the US. Rules regarding selling & keeping chelonians ie; turtles/tortoises in the US vary from state to state and in many states keeping any species endemic to that state is prohibited. Most of the US has a 5” rule; no aquatic turtles under 5” can be sold although strangely they can be “gifted.” Apparently few of these rules apply in Florida where only CITES endangered species are restricted. Even fewer wildlife laws exist in Texas where anyone can buy anything (even lion/tiger cubs and all other exotics) with no license.
Question: I want to put a 250L aquarium (100*50*50) on top of two 4x3 Kallax units. Do you think they are sturdy enough for that?
