This is what brass playing is all about for me - straight from the heart. Lovely playing. If I were to appear on 'Desert Island Discs' this would be my premier choice.
Beautiful sound..... very moving. I believe he is the grandson of Roland Cobb. When the Danforth Songsters visited the UK in 1959 my friend and I billeted at the home of Roland Cobb and his wife.
Phenomenal solo! I wonder, Philip's sound here seems to have a lovely vintage/retro quality to it. It's that super short vibrato, as I recall Maurice's sound often carried the same qualities. I wonder if it's more stylistic intention for this particular piece or if the Salvation Army background they both have really emphasizes it for melodic passages...
great ♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪ ♫♪ ♫♪great sound! ♫♪♫♪ ☺ ♥ ♫♪☺♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO @bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music! a well tuned ensemble that sounds like an organ ! Fabulous banding
Indeed, classic cornet sound one would associate with Salvation Army and British Brass Band. A cornet is not a trumpet and it deserves to be played as such.
@@martinschippers Yes... I WOULD say the same about a vocalist IF.... they were also applying TOO much vibrato. To play without vibrato is SO much more difficult and requires even MORE control. Quite simply, excessive vibrato is like a CHEAP parlor trick.... easy to do.

I was lucky to be in the audience to hear this and I've listened to it dozens of times since. Absolutely stunning solo playing and accompaniment.
Nice to hear the cornet played so well.
Every time I listen to this recording, it touches my heart
phillip. you bared your soul and played this from your heart, it is so beautiful thankyou.
Very good for reducing my stress and blood pressure. Absolute gem!
Just saw the LSO this evening and had to come home and search him on youtube- so glad I found this- absolutely beautiful performance :)
Gorgeous playing!
what a control an excellent cornet sounds just wow
Wonderful
Simply stunning!
That's classic cornet playing used in english style brass bands, both Maurice and Philip have their roots there.
Utterly beautiful playing!😍
This is marvelous
I knew that playing trumpet isn't easy at all. This Guy has a perfect pitch and tone and he also makes a wonderful vibrato. wow

Definitely salvation army background.
The pronounced vibrato is a hallmark of British Brass Band style, and the Salvation Army brass bands follow suit.
Thanks for posting this.
wow
Thank you Phillip, wonderful and inspiring playing. I now play this with my band. Thank you for your skill.

Jeez that *perfect* embouchre....
Bugle!! I think the translation went off there! It's a CORNET in English.

That was lovely, nothing more to say, except maybe aaaaaaaaaaaaah
Don't Doubt Him Now !!!!
unfortunately no Erwin ter Bogt on trumpet !! It's Hans Alting :-)
Erwin ter Bogt is no trumpet player of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Wow wonderful sound!
What is this music title?
Played with heart ! Which solo is it ?
anybody arrangements this piece ?
Did you ever hear a sweeter cornet tone.
i didnt't heard like this song..
Leepg1 what?
wow beautiful!!!! what is the piece called??
Don`t doubt Him now
where can I buy this piece???
For en solist!
heilig
Deeply moved by his playing.
Sorry... Phil Cobb has too much VIBRATO !! He detracts from the excellence of the other performers.
He’s playing cornet, not trumpet and the music was written as such. This must be played with vibrato and Phil Cobb does this to perfection
Jeez!.....are you serious?!! The 'other performers' you refer to would clearly regard your comment as totally idiotic!!!
Would you say the same about a singer as solist? The guy is singing!!!

You simply know nothing about proper brass band music. Sorry for you.
beautiful
