Wow, you just don't expect to see something like this from one of today's most successful classical players, especially the Principal Trumpet of the LSO. Love the versatility in his playing. What an awesome performance!
Had to rewind back to a couple of spots to enjoy the phrasing and style plus that kind-a foreign the body English displayed. It's super interesting to see a legit player with their sort of ridged body movements playing so well in the jazz world. Bravo
I'm catching up with this 6 years after it was posted! Simply glorious, and it did its job...it uplifted me no end. This is musical ministry at its best. And did I hear a 'snatch' of 'What I Did For Love' at 0:30? Pretty sure I did.
great ♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪ ♫♪ ♫♪great sound! ♫♪♫♪ ☺ ♥ ♫♪☺♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO @bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music! a well tuned ensemble that sounds like an organ ! Fabulous banding
Phil Cobb never ceases to amaze me. The musicality, the nice swing, the brilliant diamond-sharp tone, the ability to swap instruments and immediately take on their tone colour. There's a great video on RUclips of Phil and the LSO under Michael Tilson-Thomas playing Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F, beautiful trumpet solo from Phil. They end the concert with Shostakovitch's 5th Symphony and Phil, of course, ends it with a top E! His predecessor, the late and very great Maurice Murphy, was known to throw in a couple of octaves. The LSO brass section are in very good hands with Phil. He's filling some very big shoes, extremely well!
This has brought back some very dear memories. As in the Days when Roland Cobb and my father were in the band, i spent many a hour just listening to what i consider to be the best in the world. may the Lord be with you. Frank Biggs son of Lt Col fred Biggs.
I will be one of the lucky ones at Christmas thanks to all you good people I will be receiving a hamper,I just want to say thank you from my heart, and I sincerely in time would like to pay back and do some work or what ever I can to help.but for now thank you and a healthy new year to you all .👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the account password. I would love any assistance you can offer me.
@Cristiano Troy Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Mainly fabulous flugel, Phil Cobb actually changes to TRUMPET (in the Salvation Army!) for a wildly jazzy break. Worth a listen if any of that interests you.
Ooh man this guy is a natural! What a performance by the band! Very nice and well made RUclips video. However, i was expecting that double C at the end 😉😂👏🎺..it's ok though
Totally awesome great player, great band and a great arrangement of a classic! I can see by the comments that some continue to be totally "stiff and rigid" in the face of talent and innovation!
Thanks for sharing your bitter opinion! Loved it myself! a fine performance by one of worlds great young players! Merry Christmas to you and yours and hopefully you will find some holiday cheer to brighten your life!
ADSjr Capital Group, Inc hey Brother ... not bitter at all. I love this band and have done for a long time. My point is, this style of music just doesn't suit this wonderful musical outfit. Compliments of the season also to you mate friend.
Brass bands are know for their flexibility when it comes to playing all styles and the ISB doing this only proves how great this band truly is. It does not diminish this band in any way in fact it uplifts it to an even higher standard. Its a tight little box you seem to living in!
Hello, thank you for your comment. Please can we suggest you get in contact with SP&S. You can find their contact details on the website www.sps-shop.com/
Nice ending. The way Classical music has gone it's no longer enough to read, play in tune/time and know literature. You gotta have some chops. Take note, The Kubis version is in Concert C, but this rendition in B flat Which works adequately but remember that lowering the key changes the orig arranger's intent. I don't blame Phil for leaving out ht C.
Jaume Blàzquez Bonnín My interpretation is that any note above a double G for most trumpet players is an odd obstacle, and the original score isn't written for a double D. Believe me, though, I'm sure Phil can nail those and I would've loved to hear it!
Thought this was best arrangement on the whole CD - Always tricky to get brass band arrangements of jazz right - can't easily reproduce a rhythm section just like that - but to my mind and ears this was one of the better ones - and I'm not sure why jazz isn't suitable for the ISB - its one of the most complex musical forms but has the ability to inspire and bless like any other - only 2 kinds of music really - good and bad -

Ayyy definitely now my second favorite performance of this, next to only Bergeron
Well done Phil David Kidd Major
Amacing .... its 《feel the music》and so well sound - from the soloist and the fine band to ❤

The cadenza at the end gives me life omg

Thank you for your kind words.
Incredible. Thanks Phil for sharing this. And thanks Steve and the ISB for taking time to record this.
what a beautiful tone and talent
What a pretty tone - Loved the Flugel nuances on the hold on the last chord :)
Just beautiful.
Brilliant
Wow what a great flugel sound and beautiful phrasing 👍😎 fat trumpet too.
Wow. Deadly. Big band sound with this is refreshing indeed, Philip.
beautiful
Love this video

Nice I am also salvation Army ⟬⟭💜
Probably one of the most beautiful solo that i had ever seen in my life , congrats
Awe inspiring playing. Wishing the ISB and Phil Cobb a very merry Christmas and fantastic 2017.
Phil, and everyone else, beautiful playing! Shout-out to the very sweet euphonium work. Geat work! Thanks.
Thank you for your kind comment.
Nice touch and very clean arrangement of a classic carol.
Nice work ISB. Phil is pure talent. Watching from Kenya West Territory
Wow! Kenya! Sounds cool! Greetings from Melbourne
Superb!
Che dio vi benedica grandemente amen
A great band...a great player, who expresses his passion every time he plays. As Yugiold says below...outstanding? Absolutely.
absolutely brilliant!
India Eastern Territory is celebrating our 100th anniversary next year in 2017. I wish we could see your band live.
Wonderful playing. Well done all.
Consider my day made. Non-traditional? Perhaps. Outstanding? Absolutely!
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account??

@Peyton Francis Instablaster ;)

@Cristiano Troy It worked and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my account!
@Peyton Francis No problem :)
GREAT!
Love the arrangement! Awesome player and band. Happy Christmas to you all!
I was hoping for Bergeron's double-C...
...Oh, well...
...Still, very nice, even with but a "G"! EXCELLENT VIBRATO! Thanks for posting.
Bergeron plays a double D. This is played in a different key though
The run at 2:42 is really nice!
That wasn't intentional
Very nice,thk you.
Thanks - really enjoyed this!

It's a double D on a Bb trumpet. We jazz dudes don't think in concert pitch. 😉
Toll..... und der Dirigent kaut Kaugummi....
Oh Wow!!
Sem palavras
Pretty impressive to be able to do, Orchestral, Brass band and lead jazz playing!
Indeed!
Anyone have a link to purchase the arrangement?
Totally awesome great player, great band and a great arrangement of a classic! I can see by the comments that some continue to be totally "stiff and rigid" in the face of talent and innovation!
ADSjr Capital Group, Inc ... stiff and rigid is exactly the way the band played this .....
Thanks for sharing your bitter opinion! Loved it myself! a fine performance by one of worlds great young players! Merry Christmas to you and yours and hopefully you will find some holiday cheer to brighten your life!

Fantastic playing and wonderful arrangement. Just one question - where does Derrick disappear to about 1 minute into the track? :-)
Well spotted Cedric!
If you like this, check out Wayne Bergeron's version. Incredible.
Wayne's is the original, so it's not really a "version"
I doubt Phil plays this kind of music very often
The chart was arranged specifically for Wayne and he decided to take it to a higher level that what the sheet music actually reads
Outstanding!!!! What flugelhorn is that?
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
What is that movenent called at 2:43 he does to scale up to the high note
It’s just called a run
Wish the conductor would chew his gum with the beat though.
I want to buy this sheet music
Where can I buy?
I really want it. Please😢😢😢
Hello, thank you for your comment. Please can we suggest you get in contact with SP&S. You can find their contact details on the website www.sps-shop.com/
Shades of Louis Dowdeswell
Siate felici fede dio adempie quello che ha scritto
Is this album on any music streaming platform?
2:13
Is this arrangement available for purchase anywhere?
I'm unsure. You could check with SP&S www.sps-shop.com

Is the music for this available?
Tim, we shall endeavour to find out for you. Watch this space. God bless.
How is the soloist related to the B/M?
soloist is the BM's son
Good version, shame it's one step below the original, and there is no double D! But, whatever, good version!
Jaume Blàzquez Bonnín My interpretation is that any note above a double G for most trumpet players is an odd obstacle, and the original score isn't written for a double D. Believe me, though, I'm sure Phil can nail those and I would've loved to hear it!
Where was the dubba d
How can I buy this score?
But i can't find this song "O holy night"
Perhaps give them a call on 01933 445445
Omg
.....is phil wearing a Brietling watch ?
Holy Derick Kane can't swing for his life bruh
We're glad you enjoyed it! God bless
Thanks for grown up reply. If i wanted to hear that i would go to Ronnie Scotts jazz club. Not a criticism of Phil ...just not an ISB standard piece.
I figli di sion hanno la salvezza assicurata sta scritto in Isaia 49 verso 25 infondo a questa scrittura dio dichiara a sion : io avversero I tuoi avversari io salverò I tuoi figli
Excellent version but the point goes to Wayne Bergeron.
So it's a competition now, is it?

Just missing a super D...
Who needs nasty woodwinds anyways?
seth rogen
Wonderful playing but not suitable as a jazz piece
According to you, arbiter of all things.
SA bandsman but that was a hideous arrangement!!
