SNES Final Fantasy II Video Walkthrough 1/4

- This is the first of four videos in the video walkthrough / playthrough / runthrough / etc of the SNES game Final Fantasy 2 (which is actually FF4) This video goes from the start of the game to right before entering the castle at Toroia
There is only one spot of grinding, which is at 37:06 (you'll notice the screen fade out and back in to save from having to watch the fights..It saves a bit of time) The reason for grinding was to get Rydia a few extra levels and make sure she learned Lit-1 for the enemies that they would encounter soon.
One mistake I do sort of make is that I kept Cecil's dark swords thinking I could throw them later on. I was to learn later on that I couldn't. Thankfully I didn't really have any inventory problems due to this....

I stumbled across this video as I'm looking for facts from this game (and many others). I got the answers I needed so I hope you can take pride in the fact your son is still teaching people things, no matter how little it is, even after his passing.

Working through it! It’s great to have this one and 6 on snes but I gotta say I think I still like 6 best. This guide really helps though because the game doesn’t really spell everything out in my opinion
I was 15 and wrote the date on my calendar. I had been playing it for years so completing it felt special 🤣.. March of 2003 iirc
The fastest way to boost characters in this game, when Cecil becomes a paladin on the mountain, kill all other players. Cecil can own every mob on the mountain with ease. Ive left it at lvl 50. And each character you run back into along the way are boosted accordingly to your level.
This is my all time favorite game, I play through it once per year, I have 3 of the 4 save slots with my characters maxed out at level 99. I've always felt this game doesn't get the respect and love it deserves, everybody seems to like III better. I prefer this one and I love the soundtrack. Watching this give me chills lol. What a great era for video games and RPG's in particular this was. I sure am glad I got to grow up during that golden age.

This game right here was actually my introduction to RPG in life. I purchased it at a "Funcoland" never actually knowing what it really was and I never looked back since. RPG's are my favorite genre of gaming.

Out of all of the FF games ive played this one has the best character development and story. I can't stay interested in the other ones.

I still have my original copy I got when this came out. One of my favorites! I prefer the clunky translations in this one to the newer remakes. Nice job!

Some of the lines, I feel, are delivered better in this game. Just a few examples I can think of off the top of my head, "The crystal was shedding its light silently," and "The crystal isn't just jewelry!" and "and grieve that no other way remains" all sound a LOT more meaningful and memorable than every other version since.

OP was only 4 months after his passing and before it was widely known.
I was a poor kid, so when SNES came out, it was either goto KMart to play the display super Mario world standing up, or my one friend who had one real early on, but he was a dick and wouldn't let anyone touch it. He had Final Fantasy 2 and I'd goto his house just watch him play this. Lol, just watching was great for me. I remember being so amazed by the soundtrack

@mma forever, I remember being a 10 year old with a key trying to find the underground... Took me a week I think, eventually just threw the key into the well, and viola... Next area unlocked

Fun facts- Final Fantasy 2 is actually English USA released of Final Fantasy 4 during after original Japanese Super Famicom Final Fantasy 4 come out.
Fun fact: This US version is based off FF 4 Easy Type from Japan.

What? I thought the ff4 easy type was based on this version. Seeing as it added an alternate zeromus. This version has the original zeromus.

So far all I've seen is ff2 being based on ff4 japanese, with ff4 easy type being based on our ff2 with some additional changes on top of it.
not that it matters. ff2/4 is great no matter what region came first.

Emulators are a last resort. But since the price of an original cartridge is so high, buy a reproduction cart' for $20 or less and play it on a real SNES with the original controller, or on a clone system like the Retron Duo.
I found a copy of this game at a store that sells retro and modern games and I bought it. Unfortunately, I'll need an SNES console to play it.
I always grinded cash outside of Mydisia so i could buy all the paladin and twin armor before leaving. Made life much easier later on

Yeah, a long time ago. Way back when I didn't quite have a good plan on how to do RPGs...I should have cut it down to three videos instead of 2 long ones. Also, I think I go through the dialogue a little too quickly...But I suppose if you're a speed reader, it shouldn't be a problem.. :P

I bought this game on oct/14 for ps2, but doesn't work :( I sure missed playing this. And i really wish it would have work for playstation 2. Anyways if i ever get this game. I will still like the old version to this and not the newer one.

I played this as a kid and never bothered to read the story line, i was like 5 lol
My favorite until VII.
When fighting the General and soldiers when they come to get Rydia in Kapio or in the battle to protect Fabul kill the General/Sargent in back row first you get extra exp and Gil that way kill one of the soldiers so it dont run, I did this one time since the guy in back never attacks just orders.... The battle with Kain after that you can "kill kain" with cheating (level 99) no exp and you still lose. LOL

It was originally listed as FF2 when it came to the US(Japanese 2 and 3 were never ported back then).

Japan's got two versions, one is the one later ported to the PS1, DS, and PSP, and of course, the Easy Type, the one ported here to the US on the SNES.

This game made awful use of the SNES specs. The GBA version looks so much better
