This is my all time favorite game, I play through it once per year, I have 3 of the 4 save slots with my characters maxed out at level 99. I've always felt this game doesn't get the respect and love it deserves, everybody seems to like III better. I prefer this one and I love the soundtrack. Watching this give me chills lol. What a great era for video games and RPG's in particular this was. I sure am glad I got to grow up during that golden age.

The fastest way to boost characters in this game, when Cecil becomes a paladin on the mountain, kill all other players. Cecil can own every mob on the mountain with ease. Ive left it at lvl 50. And each character you run back into along the way are boosted accordingly to your level.
This game right here was actually my introduction to RPG in life. I purchased it at a "Funcoland" never actually knowing what it really was and I never looked back since. RPG's are my favorite genre of gaming.
I still have my original copy I got when this came out. One of my favorites! I prefer the clunky translations in this one to the newer remakes. Nice job!
Some of the lines, I feel, are delivered better in this game. Just a few examples I can think of off the top of my head, "The crystal was shedding its light silently," and "The crystal isn't just jewelry!" and "and grieve that no other way remains" all sound a LOT more meaningful and memorable than every other version since.

Emulators are a last resort. But since the price of an original cartridge is so high, buy a reproduction cart' for $20 or less and play it on a real SNES with the original controller, or on a clone system like the Retron Duo.
Yeah, a long time ago. Way back when I didn't quite have a good plan on how to do RPGs...I should have cut it down to three videos instead of 2 long ones. Also, I think I go through the dialogue a little too quickly...But I suppose if you're a speed reader, it shouldn't be a problem.. :P

My best hopes and wishes go out to you and the rest of your family. Your son clearly left this world doing what he loved. I only found and played this game a few weeks ago, and it has left such a strong impact on me, so I'm glad that his last days were filled with enjoying a classic like this. I bought this game on oct/14 for ps2, but doesn't work :( I sure missed playing this. And i really wish it would have work for playstation 2. Anyways if i ever get this game. I will still like the old version to this and not the newer one.

When fighting the General and soldiers when they come to get Rydia in Kapio or in the battle to protect Fabul kill the General/Sargent in back row first you get extra exp and Gil that way kill one of the soldiers so it dont run, I did this one time since the guy in back never attacks just orders.... The battle with Kain after that you can "kill kain" with cheating (level 99) no exp and you still lose. LOL
Japan's got two versions, one is the one later ported to the PS1, DS, and PSP, and of course, the Easy Type, the one ported here to the US on the SNES.

Fun facts- Final Fantasy 2 is actually English USA released of Final Fantasy 4 during after original Japanese Super Famicom Final Fantasy 4 come out.
Fun fact: This US version is based off FF 4 Easy Type from Japan.

So far all I've seen is ff2 being based on ff4 japanese, with ff4 easy type being based on our ff2 with some additional changes on top of it.
not that it matters. ff2/4 is great no matter what region came first.

I found a copy of this game at a store that sells retro and modern games and I bought it. Unfortunately, I'll need an SNES console to play it.
I always grinded cash outside of Mydisia so i could buy all the paladin and twin armor before leaving. Made life much easier later on
