Well the government can’t meet every veterans needs. This is why the government needs to get out of the way. Resources should be set up to where all veterans can access similar to when a person buys car insurance. Then this methodology puts the veterans in the driver seat but of course the qualifying measures have to have been established.
The PACT Act has its downfalls for sure. But it got me to 100%. There's still a ton of work that needs to be done for all veterans. The jumping through hoops and having to fail a bunch before you get it right needs to end.
the PACT ACT looks good on paper and advertising but the actual implementation is horrific. The VA seems to always make us veterans jump through hoops to get help. Ridiculous!
We have been fighting for 20 years for my Vietnam veteran husband to get 100%. He’s at 90 and the only reason he’s gonna get 100 now is because he has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and that’s only temporary until they get it under control they say.!! Vietnam vets are definitely forgotten also .
Older Vets are fighting harder to prove toxic exposures, as a Medic, few went to sick call( early 80s.), I never did either. Look at El Toro, we were exposed to hundreds of toxic chemicals. Vets need to bitch to everyone! That’s what I am doing. We are our own advocates! Thank you Clay! You’re an advocate to all.
Yeah I’m not a fan of contracted TERA exams. It really takes a specialist and anything else is a disservice. 9/10 that examiner is clueless to TERA - Clay
I was in KOSOVO from in1999-2000 as a Civilian contractor and saw plenty of military vehicles destroyed by A10 Warthog weapons lots of depleted uranium was used on these vehicles and the U.S Army recovered them all and put them in a boneyard at Campbondstell a stone's throw away from US personal living quarters. Also, there was a puppy dog with rabies at the main maintenance shed it came in contact with hundreds of people. When you get deployed anywhere any time there are dangers you don't even think about stateside.
I've been sending the VA evidence for over 10 years. At first they didn't even know what PFAS was. They tried to say I was delusional and depressed. Depression and anxiety are symptoms. We are just trying to avoid homelessness due to healthcare costs. Some are so sick they are unable to work. We are extremely sensitive to these chemicals, but money/profits is always put above healthcare.
Ok explain it to me like I'm a 3 year old, coz I'm not getting it. The PACT Act is basically for vets who were exposed to burn pits and other toxins, right? Im not understanding how it sucks for all vets with a disability even the ones who weren't exposed (like myself). Don't get me wrong, I hope those vets that were exposed get what's owed to them but this title is misleading me and I was trying to get an understanding watching it.
I think you may have forgotten that Bosnia was in mid to late 90s. 😂 I was on missions that provided SI ‘overwatch’ when Marines drove up from Macedonia to Kosovo.
I was part of the initial IFOR deployment to Bosnia in Dec, 95. Depleted uranium munitions were a concern for a while, but then the issue was kind of dropped. But poor water and air quality were a big issue. Yugoslavia was a traditional communist-bloc country and there were no real concerns regarding the environment (if it could be burned to generate electricity, well toss it in the the generator). This got exceptionally bad during the civil war/breakup where chemical dumps/munition dumps were not even given casual care, just left to rust and leak into the ground. And Yugoslavia, as a former communist-bloc country, produced and stored a lot of chemical weapons. So all the troops deployed to the former Yugoslav republics (IFOR/SFOR, Able Sentry, KFOR) were exposed to a lot of toxins in their air and water. And a fun little fact - we still have US troops in Kosovo as part of the KFOR mission (going on since 1999). I think we are down to just a few hundred, but there were typically several thousand from 1999-2011. The really bad thing about Kosovo is the air quality. The main electric plant there was a nightmare. They would burn whatever they could find to keep the electricity going. There were no filters or any kind of controls and for decades our troops were waking up covered in black soot from that power plant (do a search on KEK power plant A, Kosovo). Sometimes there was so much in the air, it made it hard to see. It does seem that there is some legislative movement to add Kosovo to the PACT Act list. But they really need to add Bosnia and Macedonia, as well. There were not a lot of troops deployed to Macedonia, but they were just a short distance from the main deployments in Kosovo.
I may be wrong but I thought Bosnia was in the mid 90s under Clinton. At least that’s when I was deployed to that region. I agree Bosnia should be included in my opinion. I remember sleeping in a tent burning fuel in a stove during the night to keep warm in the winter. It was by far the coldest I’ve ever felt in my life. I’m sure breathing in the fumes from the stove really did my body good.
One of the main reasons I went to the VFW convention VA claims clinic was to have TERA and ILER done and C&P exams for several of my conditions caused by toxic exposure in 1980 state side . The VA rep. took my sign toxic exposure statement and evidence of event for those conditions and the C&P examiner in agreement with the toxic exposure conditions and say was going to add another medical condition to my claims . Will see if my claims come back with a favorable decision.
They don’t care about Vietnam vets either. Around fuels, smoke, agent orange. Bad air and environment on diesel submarines. Pancreas don’t work. Diagnosis EPI. But no cancer or diabetes. Now the bladder wall is thickening . Can’t get into urologist till after first of year. Totally dissatisfied.
@@rogersmith7808 I got a civilian to take Medicare and tricare for life. They worked around a next year appointment. I go see them the 22 of this month. I’m staying positive even if I have to have a catheter. I will get this claim through an take care of myself and the wife.
Got denied for sinusitis even after filing and HLR had documented diagnosis's. The HLR surely was also just as inept as the optum examanier. Stated it wsn't service connected how can the senior reviewer messed that up also. The funny thing is i got 10 percent for Rhinitis all on the same claim. Make it make sense. That denial caused me to miss out on being bumped up from 70 currently to 80 .
Hardest part is getting the connection now he has to follow through to hit the next ratings….. it’s very easy work since you can read all the requirements . 😏
@@nicolcacolathat doesn't sound right cause raters can't override medical opinion, I would suggest getting his primary care doctor to write a nexus letter and resubmit
@tryagainb9669 If you look at the rates of VA claim denials that have skyrocketed. I'm assuming the VA is trying to get their case closing numbers up but the consequence is everyone gets unfair claim reviews. Thank you for the advice! We will continue on trying.
Yep Clay - I'm that three branch vet since 91....Balkans twice in 90's and again Kosovo in 2011-12. Everything is on fire all year around - including the Soviet Era dirty coal plant known as "KEK" ...deemed an environmental disaster by the EU - it's no secret. It looks like Blade Runner 2049.
yes…. so many veterans have put in for an increase… and not only do they not get the increase, but they get the disability rating they already had reviewed again…and REDUCED 😩.. so sad. veterans should NOT have to feel afraid to put in an increase !!
That's a joke. Hubby submitted for rhinitis and the VA said it was allergic rhinitis and that it's service connected but 0%. Funny because in his medical record it's not allergic rhinitis, it's chronic rhinitis. Smh
I can say I put in for the pact act and was told you have COPD you where in Afghanistan but you are not connected so sucks to suck nerd my my C&P examiner even served the same place I did and it didn't mater
The only benefit the VA provides for me is the fact that I don't have to pay the stupid Obamacare tax here in California. That's it. After being mistreated, having my trust betrayed and then being forgotten about I swore as God is my witness that I will die before ever setting foot in another VA facility again. I wish the best of luck for my brothers and sisters in arms. You'll need it.
I was blown-up by an IED just outside Baghdad Int'l Airport, standing above a culvert that had 2× 120 mm anti-tank rounds wired to a cell phone. It blew through my face, arms, and right leg just before my knee cap. My right leg gives out on me 3 to 4 times a year. It does not give a warning as it just collapses. The nerves were severed by shrapnel. I've tried to get the VA to do something about my knee. It comes back denied every time, stating it is not service related. I was standing on the culvert when the IED went off, 18 APR 2005.

After fighting tooth and nail for the last 31 years, I can assure you Shield/Storm vets are NOT getting their needs met.
Roger phucking that!

Nobody cares about us, most forgot us completely
They denied me twice for IBS which is supposed to be a presumptive for Gulf War Vets. I got a hearing coming up in a couple weeks for it.

Gulf War vets are fighting harder to get noticed. Pact act helped some but we got pushed to the end of the line with the Vietnam vets
Anyone before 9/11 was forgotten.
For Post 911 vets Pact Act works for Gulf War veterans not so much.
Shield/Storm is almost same same as Post 9/11

I'm one of the lucky ones i guess. The Pact Act was AZ win for me. 50% Sinusitis and 10% Rhinitis 😊
Vietnam Veterans continue to get screwed by design! 🙄
It’s because of the Vietnam Era that todays veterans have benefits - no doubt

Clogging up the VA claims with millions of PACT ACT claims is also a huge negative.
Absolutely. The VA wasn’t postured with manpower or training for the intake

There’s still nothing for troops who were in the Philippines and stayed behind after Pinatubo eruption and have breathing issues.
FYI to all vets, check the EPA superfund base's you could have been serving on a toxic base, the EPA has a list.

You are absolutely correct I tell my veteran friends that they forget about Bosnia in the 90s like you mentioned.

For reference I filed my first claim (PACT ACT) over 2 months ago… haven’t heard anything yet
What about in the 50's and 60's they really didn't have protection back then.
TERA is not created by the vet but by some ghost in VBA.
I filed a pact act and went to a c&p was asked why I did not have a nexus letter and was told more likly than not it was not service connected
Your broken knee from a 6By crash has nothing to do with Tera yet will be denied because it is not toxin related.
