That is a great point. If pictures are geotagged you can use that to your advantage in post processing to geographically constrain the search. I have not tried this function yet. I will be covering leveraging GPS data from autopilot telemetry into post processing in a later tutorial so I should probably cover your suggestion at that point as well. Thanks!

To anyone who may still watch this, a polarized lens filter over the camera should reduce or kill the glare given by reflective surfaces, namely water, and should allow for a more complete scan. Although polarized lenses do tend to darken the image bit, you should be able to do color correction either on the images or the 3D model.

By the way, CMVS itself can be used freely for commercial work as well. CMVS also has a programme for purchasing a license which will allow a vendor to distribute modified versions of CMVS without also distributing the source code.

Thanks, I tried this last night by walking around with my GPS enabled cell phone, to test the program, but it couldnt apparently use pictures from such a low angle. As soon as I get my drone up and running, Ill start playing with it. Thank you for making this program, those of us who want to learn dont have pockets as deep as 350 dollars month for other de-functioned software.

Very nice tut!. You might also consider the sfm capabilities has to use the GPS data of the exif to ease the image matching.

i think yes...but you can georeference point clouds in another software like Cloud compare

I think somebody already asked this question - how did the photos capture location and orientation? Were the photos geotagged?
    Thanks

+Binesh Maharjan They don't need to be geo tagged. But it helps in some software that can take advantage of it

The software can measure the depth and movement based on the things that move in the photo spirometer shot to shot.

Hey @duffnyc77, I have a small problem, whe I do the third step (to CMVS) it says:
    "Runing Yasutaka Furukawa's CMVS/PMVS tool...
    cmvs H:\Fotos\Fotos llit\CMVS_02.nvm.cmvs\00\ 50 8
Yasutaka Furukawa's CMVS cannot be located!
Please go download or compile them and
place them where VisualSFM is or in your PATH"
    What can be happening?
    Thanks!

Evan Hammac Not my case..I know there is a program that can take care of it, but haven't tried it. It comes with the zip file that you download from the flight riot page.

This is free, what's the deal with that? Most mapping software I have seen cost around $4000. Let me guess they have the copyright to the photos and can do what they want.

shoot me an email at duffnyc77 at gmail and I'll figure out what's happening and get you signed up. maybe browser compatibility? there should be a game you have to play and after that it should take you right through. I'm sorry about that, it's the first time someone has had a problem.
