    My name is Tim Lucas, I develop Autonomous Unmanned Systems and payloads. I also provide consulting services to train clients on how to achieve the things demonstrated in this video.
    I have made this particular video to demonstrate how UAV's carrying photogrammetry payloads can be used in the industry.
    The data you see in this video was gathered using "DINGO" a VTOL UAV designed by myself.
    You can also see footage of a smaller variant which will be replacing it.
    This kind of data can also be gathered on larger areas, with increased precision, this is just a small teaser.
    The basics of what I am demonstrating is the ability to generate an accurate 3D model representation of anything that you fly over.
    More videos and information to follow...
    I am a professional consultant and I do provide training on this subject and more, please contact if you are interested in my services.

    Great video by the way!

    Could this theoretically work with low to the ground footage where the
    images end up recording footage of all the parts of the terrain but those parts don't contain one giant encompassing shot of the terrain within the field of view of the camera?

    This is fascinating to me. Are you pulling GPS data logged from the camera's on-board GPS or are you pulling if from the FC to get the photo location?

    Hi Tim Lucas, i'm Philip from France and i work with Photoscan, Global Mapper too and Meshlab, 123 Autodesk...etc...Very good demonstration of Photogrammetry but i didn't know that we could re-create a "crash" with vehicles...Very interesting...! Do you confirm that yiu used Blender to integrate house, cars and witnesses with the final mesh and texture after Photoscan calculations...?

      Seen something similar about 6 years ago that students developed for VW in Germany. They used it in customer complaint cases regarding misaligned doors from the factory. But this application is much cooler.

    wanted to know whether we can use photos with different focal length to make DEM's & orthophoto. If yes then is there any extra steps needed or Agisoft recognises itself.

    Hi Tim, great video! I use PhotoScan as an aid in reverse engineering machine parts and it's working great. I use a DSLR and get very good results.
    I'm looking into buying a UAV but I'm not sure about the camera choice, bear in mind I'm on a tight budget. Is a GoPro good for photogrammetry? I know they come with a very wide angle or fish eye lens, is there a way to correct the images in post-processing?

      We can obtain both terrain & surface data, as well as volumetric and linear distance calculations, within acceptable margins for a professional survey.

  • @mikecarswell4343
    @mikecarswell4343 9 лет назад

    Hi and cheers for the video!
    I've got some aero data from UAV flights and it seems the texture of some roofs enables agisoft to work beautifully, other roofs not so much.
    Do you clean up models in a 3d program before putting a texture on? I've heard about people exporting to meshlab for this step before exporting back but I haven't had much luck so far. If so what program do you use?
    Cheers,
    Mike

    • @timlucas143
      @timlucas143  9 лет назад

      Mike Carswell Hi Mike, Phototgrammetry works best with recognizable texture variation, some textures such as a roof or water have a large surface area of the same texture or none at all, large bodies of water are similar, without any real points of reference between photos, the software struggles to stitch correctly, Also a roof reflects a lot of sunlight it might be washed out, appear completely white, using a camera with high dynamic range and a polarizing filter can help pick up extra texture, if accuracy is not an issue and you just want a great looking model, then you can add stuff with 3D software, most 3D software should be able to reconstruct parts of the model, exported as an OBJ file, keeping in mind you have to edit both the texture and the model for proper effect, the texture alone may be enough in some cases. the texture can be edited in Photoshop. you can contact me directly at www.remotesense.com.au using the contact form. Cheers, Tim

    Does ground covered in snow affect the depth?? I tried doing an open field with trees with a section of trees along with a frozen lake covered with snow and the depth field wasn't accurate at all... I'm assuming it has to do with the fact there is very little texture and the solid white color throws off the processing???? Or am I missing something??

    • @timlucas143
      @timlucas143  8 лет назад

      +Philip Hartmann You are correct, the snow lacks texture, the point cloud is created due to it being able to pick up the same details in more than one photo, water and snow are probably the worst. you could try flying higher and using a polarizing filter to get rid of glare.

    Currently I am using Agisoft Photoscan to buld a 3D model out of videos taken of a room.Really liked your video and wish to know what software did you use ( 2:40) to represent the model in rgb color?

      Hi Karishma, I used Agisoft, then Cinema 4D for the 3D stuff and, the RGB depth map was created in Global Mapper, if you have any other questions please feel free to get in touch on the contact form of my website www.remotesense.com.au
