More kicking…thanks
Hey Ron, oddly enough I’ve been spending the past week or so working on one rail kicks and banks… and here you are showing us how it’s done! All over more of this if you’re up to it! Just celebrated my 60th on Saturday so it’s takin a while to get to this one. Thanks as always for sharing, very well done as usual! Take care, Ian

Happy belated Birthday Ian 🎊🎈🎂
Thank you as well for watching and glad the timing was right 😊👍🏻❤️🎱
Yes please. I’d love more tutorials on this. I wind up with so many shots that look like these positions, but I’m too scared to try to bang them or kick them. I’m only a 3 in 9-ball but these lessons have helped me immensely just in the few minutes I’ve watched.
@@jenniferwylde1111 Thank you Jennifer and thanks for sharing too. I’ll be putting together more on the subject so stay
tuned 👍🏻😊
I really like how you went right into the lesson. Always enjoy.
@@gregfariss4686 Thank you and thanks for your feedback Greg. Early on as a creator, I would do an intro to my videos. The RUclips analytics taught me this wasn’t well received. Now, I cut to the quick as soon as possible 👍🏻😊

Nice video! Learn those diamonds, everyone. They are your best friend in a tight situation.
Great explanation, Ron.
Thank you TKM, full disclosure; I need to work more at the diamond kicking system.
One of my top player friends (16 straight nine ball break & runs) has shared an awesome one cushion kicking system that I’m about to study and practice more in earnest.
Stay tuned as I hope to learn it so I can put together a comprehensive breakdown.
Thanks again 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@ronthepoolstudent have you ever considered adjusting in halves instead of parallel shift? My reasoning is that if you are 4 diamonds away and then aim 2 diamonds away, wouldn't that calculation be the same when adjusting to location off the line? Wouldn't the shift be as the same as the original calculation for a kick shot? I'm just curious about the physics. Is the adjustment figured out differently than the original kicking angle? I'm always trying to learn something new.
@ I have no clue lol. Let’s experiment 👍🏻😊
@@ronthepoolstudent let me know how it turns out. I'm sure that cueing and speed will play a big part. Enjoy the experiment!
@ speed and spin are what makes this game so
complicated 👍🏻😉
Good stuff as always, Ron!
@@2colossery Thank you 2c 👍🏻😊
Another great video Ron!
Thank you DP, it’s not an easy topic to teach imo. One could put together several tutorials on it.
It would be great to know what Efren sees as he contemplates execution of his kicking game.
More more more. Thx Ron
Thank you Ross 👍🏻😊
Excellent video!
Thank you Mike, very much appreciated and glad you like
it 👍🏻😊
Please add the multi rail kicks, Ron. Your videos are quite helpful.
Thank you George for your feedback. I really appreciate it and will think of additional tutorials to instruct you and others in the future. Thanks again! 👍🏻😊

Great video Ron!
@@GabeM_13 Thank you Gabe, glad you liked it 👍🏻😊
I would definitely like to see a more in depth video on this. I'm usually close with the ones that are on the diamonds and fairly close to being right in line with each other. I struggle when the angle is off. I've tried using the diamond system for kicking, but i never can seem to get it right. My bank shots are dead in with the system i use, but just struggle altogether with the lock shots. Thank you for all you do!
@@damonbiego3073 Thank you Damon. I’ll be working on it so I can positively teach it properly.
Right now, I go with feel based on angle-in/angle-out.
I’ve been shown a method by one of our great players that addresses what you’re struggling with. I’m curious to see if I can master it.
Great video! Nice full table cut on that 1 ball in the beginning! Even though it wasn't the right shot. I didn't even see the 2 way shot until you started explaining it. I need to develop that outside of the box type thinking and see those more often.
@@Chi_Town21 Thank you Jeff. Btw, when you use running spin to dig behind the object ball, there are times when the cue ball will keep going and spin into the corner pocket for the scratch. If you add low along with the inside spin, this will make the cue ball stop close to the point of contact. Just an fyi.
👍🏻❤️🎱
@ronthepoolstudent thank you that makes a lot of sense. I have scratched attempting this before. Just thought I hit it wrong but I bet the spin was more the culprit. That low makes total sense.
@ One of my 700 fargo player friends squared me away on using low to hold the cue ball close to where it hits.
@@ronthepoolstudent great tip for sure!
@@Chi_Town21 As he put it, it’s a game winner!
I’m into kicking lately, using units and positions of OB +/- depending on position. It’s a nice rabbit hole with % getting higher on making em
Thank you Duke.
Learning the diamond system can be difficult for some players.
I in fact use an angle-in/angle-out type approach where I use my cue to compare the imagined inbound angle while I visualize the out bound angle. This has worked surprisingly well for me as I’ve made many memorable one rail kick shots during actual competition.
The system takes minimal time thus allowing me to continue at a quick pace which I like.
Thanks again for weighing in 👍🏻
Yes, please more of these kick shots, two rail and three rail kickshots. If you got it
Thank you Ling Ling for your feedback. I’ll work to come up with more helpful kick shot content 👍🏻
Oh yeah I definitely need more in depth on this topic. I'm getting better at this purely from the amount of reps I've put in but the reference points still allude me. Also if you can add in how you stick the cue ball when shooting at an object ball that's close to the rail. I see a lot of safety plays like this. Speaking of, do you have any safety content. That's another aspect along with kicking/banking that needs work for me. But I'll definitely be adding this video to my practice folder on RUclips
@@BooksNGuns Add low to your side spin to kick & stick the cue ball Ricardo.
Also, I do have safety play videos so feel free to check them out 👍🏻
@ronthepoolstudent ohhh that's where I've been going wrong. I've been using top spin to try and stick those shots. I'm definitely going to find your safety videos. I just started playing 9- ball where safeties are essentially. I've also learned i can beat better players with good safety play. Time to get to work. I have a good friend from high school who always stresses to practice with purpose.
@ A strong safety game is a must, practice with purpose! 👍🏻

@@MrCurb1968 Thank you Shannon for your feedback 👍🏻
Ron, I am sure you know but watch the cue ball come off the rail during your kick shot for the 1 ball in the side at 7 minutes into the video. Notice how the cue ball "reflects" off the rail then bends forward toward the pocket. This is because the cue ball has top spin and why we shoot at the diamond hitting the rail a bit early to compensate for that forward roll. I believe this is also why you needed right spin in the earlier kick shot, but not the longer kick. Slow motion would be nice to see it better. More later.
@@RoobieRhoo Thanks 👍🏻
Roobie, I think you have misunderstood. What happens is the cue ball has momentum, because of the angle of the shot. You can't make the 1-ball in the side pocket and make the cue ball stop, as well. The cue ball follows the 90 degree tangent line off the 1 ball.
Like Ron said, the reason you put side on this type of shot is to get in behind the ball enough. The side spin opens the angle for the cue ball off the rail.
@@2colossery You are correct. The cue ball coming off the rail has kinetic energy (momentum) and potential energy in the form of rolling top spin. So, yes, the cue ball will continue rolling forward after contacting the object ball. It'd be very impressive to play that as a stop shot. LOL
However, you can run or draw a ball of the rail just as you can an object ball. The cue ball still retains spin after contacting the rail. So, a ball with top spin will bounce off the rail briefly along the tangent line until the remaining top spin takes effect on the cloth. Then the cue ball will bend forward slightly.
You can see it happen in the video. Actually, angle in and angle out are very close, but being the same is really a myth. The outbound angle is a tad wider when the cue ball has top spin. This is why we have to hit the rail a tad earlier by aiming at the diamond. That is precisely the reason diamonds are offset from the edge of the rail to compensate and are not on the rail.
I am sure we've both tried kicks from just off the rail and intuitively used side spin to get behind the object ball. You may be right. I was just extrapolating from the above paragraph as a possible reason for needing to do that.
I strive to use systems that work at all angle and distances. If at 5:26 you move the cue ball along the line using a starting position 2" off of the kicking rail this method falls apart. Still a great video and this subject needs a deep dive. Distance from a rail that "kick and stick" naturally happens at different speeds and then what spins can help when it gets further away.
I did not show my actual one cushion kicking method Dennis. It’s mostly by feel as I accurately visualize angle-in/angle-out in my mind. Also, there are times I will use side spin with intuition.
It’s crazy and I can’t explain it in a tutorial 🤷🏻♂️
@ yes, there is a natural line and if the ball is not on it I rather shoot down it anyway and alter the reflection with speed and spin than change the aim angle for small adjustments.
@@CueballcontrolSometimes It’s a super tough topic to teach.
These systems are only a taste. From them, a player must put in up-teen hours of experimentation to develop their own feel.
Thank you Ron, for this video. I have question, what is the brand of your pool balls that you play? They are sounding very different than my set in our clubhouse. Yours sounding fuller and crisper. Thanks.
@@onsam Thank you Onsam, these are Aramith balls.
@@ronthepoolstudentneed to get one of these sets. There are also tournament version.
@ I think the least expensive sets go for $75. while the most expensive run $450.
I see the cue deflection at the beginning of the two-way shot. Do you aim with deflection in mind?
@@passportwolf11 I tell players all the time to shoot for countless hours with their cue of choice PW. This is so they will totally get to know their shaft’s performance capabilities.
For me, I’m now nearing 10k practice hours using the same shaft.
(Z3 Predator)
Because of this, I no longer need to think of how I’m aiming. This began to happen at around the 5k mark.
Today, when I pick up a different cue, I immediately notice the difference in terms of deflection.
So to answer your question, I need to answer by showing you what I actually did. Below are the drills that I religiously shot for two years.
