I watched this with my mum when I first got this on DVD/video (can't remember which) . My mum rarely stopped working/moving, but she sat down and watched this with me. She laughed her head off, which she rarely did. It's one of the few memories I have of just me and my mum enjoying something together.
I think this is my all time favourite of Billy's sketches; I can remember very vividly the first time my parents allowed me to stay up past 9PM and they were watching this; I think I nearly died laughing 😂
The timing of "Agnes" was to die for and so unexpected you couldn't fail to spit out anything you were stupid enough to try and consume during a Billy Connolly diatribe.... Eat then view but NEVER simultaneously 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Greatest comedian ever! When I was at college they showed us this with the sound turned off to highlight communication through body language and actions. Superb!
Ten days before xmas; outside my house is a steep hill covered in sheet ice, I'm up to my eyes with stuff to do and I'm knackered. Billy is the only cure right now!
I agree, the first time I saw this I nearly died laughing, I fell off the couch. It never ceases to make me laugh and I have watched it thousands of times since
@alexandrabooth8938. Billy has said that he only ever did this routine live twice. But Agnes the lion has had a huge effect on people as he was always being stopped on the street by people asking how she was. So he watched the video of the routine, probably this one, and said it was his favourite routine of all the things he has done.
I've seen Billy live many times over the years, but I've never seen this routine. I would have loved to have seen it live, for me it's Billy's finest achievement. It's so damn clever. I believe it was only done twice live, which is a shame. The videos are OK up to a point, but just don't measure up compared to a live performance. Billy can feel justifiably proud of what he achieved here, it's that good. At the end of his career, Billy can point to this and say, I did that and smile inwardly. Outstanding. I salute you.
Agnes... Betty.... It's so funny and his mannerisms are perfect especially the attack plan ...tears always roll no matter how many times I watch it.....

Billy Connolly gets a lot of praise and none of it is anywhere near enough to justify his brilliance. Me and my family still regularly reference his jokes without every mentioning exactly what we're talking about. I know you, I do, I know you, I know your face.
The funniest man on the planet. I have watched this so many times and still get hysterical when he tells Agnes and Betty what to do. An amazing man. ❤❤❤
Shit! I was carefully pouring a beer...watching the screen ... when he said ...."Agnes!" Spilt the bugger....... Bloody hell!...... Billy!...you owe me a beer! 🤣
Billy just can tell a story like no-one else. It's like your there with him watchingl listening he just doesn't tell a joke he tells a story. Would have loved to see one of his shows. But life got in the way but still can enjoy his stories on here. Love you Billy along with half the population of Earth I guess.
Out of all sketches Billy's done over the decades, this one stand out to me - absolutely brill!!! But there's an old recording floating around somewhere where he's telling about parties at homes where he put cling film over the toilet bowl. If you've ever heard it you'll never ever going to forget it! That was totally mind-blowing! 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍

Let's be totally honest here we are talking about a legend that all comics say that without Billy they would not be famous and rich the guy is a true fucking legend the greatest comic this world has produced and he has very really told a joke his observations of life are connectable because we all have been there a true legend
He was hugely influential and changed the direction of comedy. But a lot of your post is bollocks. Also Billy told a lot of jokes. when he was younger, and occasionally during the rest of his career.
No matter how many times I watch this sketches it still has me laughing hard. Agnes and Betty are hilarious names for the lions as they are names of little old ladies like your grandmother these days.
I saw this leg of the tour when it came to the Liverpool Empire, one of The Big Yin's favourite venues to play. He did almost three hours and not a minute wasted. Legend.
Yes! I saw him in Perth about 15 years ago. Slid right out of my seat onto the floor at one stage. Best night ever! “Every time God appears to a prophet, there’s no witnesses. How convenient” Plenty of witnesses to his Billy’s god-like work though
There's a fair few wildebeest in Glasgow and there's also a few lionesses called Agnes, and Betty there may even be one called senga but she's more like a water buffalo
If anybody is a wee bit fed up or needing a pick me up just watch this you will never be the same again.Brilliant
As if people don't have other things to do.
"That wee shoulder number..." always puts a smile on my face 🙂

Billy is my favourite living comedian. But of the comedians I've seen, he lies in fourth place.
