I really appreciate your honest reviews.
I love your channel. Everything I look up you cover it!!
Great video as usual, ordered one today! I had ordered a Duo 2 last fall based on your reviews. I'm excited to see how much clearer this is at distance. I can't quite capture license plates or clear faces at the end of my driveway. Keep up the great work!
Hope you enjoy it!
Awesome video!! Thanks for the info!!
Ive been retrofitting a shitty cable with power injection security system with a defunct app and have replaced my house with a variety of Reolink cameras because of your thorough review videos. A 823a PTZ camera for the front balcony, two "vandal proof" 843a cameras for ground level and now two Duo 3s for the back and side. These are SO EASY TO SETUP its unreal, they literally set themselves up!
Awesome camera with rich features. Thanks for the review.
It would be great to have the comparison between dual cams, tracking cams and two cams! ❤❤❤
Will do. Thanks for watching!
Great video as always :)
Thanks for watching!
Gr8 job like always...This Cam is a beast IMO
I would love a Duo ColorX in 4K (2K X 2) to keep my NVR recording history longer. I have 11 CX410 models now, but would love the 180 degree view. For most of us consumer users, we are not looking at long views that need high pixel clarity, or need LPR ready units. Tight shots around the house is enough. Hey Reolink! Duo ColorX please! Life Hacker keep up the quality reviews. Love your channel camera content!
YES!
As always great video and super fast notifications on this camera.
Thanks for watching
Very good channel about Security Camera and info.
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Impressive audio & video qualities.
Is this the best brand in the duo cams? I have 2 different models from Annke both duo cams 180 fov. But Was looking for one more that can zoom in a little cross the street without getting the image fuzzy. Thanks for the video review!
Thanks L.H.
Really like your videos!! Currently in the market and have been bouncing between two 811a vs a Duo 2 (or maybe now 3) vs a Trackmix. Would love to see your next comparison!! When do you think you will publish it??
I'm not sure yet but that video will lean into a wider angle or 2 cams instead of a tracking one.
Hi, any chance you can make a NVR recommendation/comparison, like reolink different NVR's, which would be more suitable for a full system like 16mp poe/WiFi cams and doorbell, also with/without poe switch? Thanks
Have you heard any news about a CX version? Thank you for the awsome review as always!
Not yet. Thanks for watching!
I have a few new in box duo 2. Think its worth buying the 3s instead?
@LifeHackster do you terminate your ethernet cables yourself? Can I use pass through connectors or should I use standard/non-pass thru to avoid moisture intrusion and other issues?
I use pass through connectors because you will have a 100 percent connection success rate. With standard ones, I occasionally have to redo it.
Is it possible to angle the Duo3 camera down to remove/reduce the distant image and improve coverage below the camera(s), i.e. on a side driveway
does this support ONVIF to use it to record on another NVR?
Thanks for sharing. How is the lighting compared to the floodlights with the Duo2? Also, I noticed that some of the cameras on your app are independent of the NVR. Is it because they are not connected to the NVR?
The floodlight will have more lighting reach at farther distances. Yes, I have my cameras in a PoE switch but also records to the NVR..actually 2 NVRs.
Looking forward to the reviews on the other 'wave 3' models if you get those. I'm actually shocked at the price. Not bad at all especially when compared to some other walled ecosystems like Ring.
Reolink cameras are pretty affordable and way better in video quality than Ring's plus no subscription needed.
ready to go wired. will the duo3 work with the 2 tb nvr? website has only 12 mp. didnt know because it is new release?
I have added Reolink to the lineup due to your reviews, and so far they are awesome. Is there a way to temporarily disable notifications from the Reolink app when you or a known person is trigggering one or more cameras such as a child in the front yard or driveway with out having to do so for each camera?
Use the scene modes to add a customized setting where you can turn on or off the notifications, and/or recordings of any or all of your cameras. Thanks for watching!
Is there an alternative for the mounting bracket for the duo? I accidentally threw the mounting plate with the box 😅
Any idea when the Duo 3T and Duo 3V will be released?
Including in your testing with td link magcam
Can you review the new lorex dual camera
@8:47 in the video you can hear a whisper. also before and after you can hear people talking.
I hear singing and people talking in my camera and I don't live in a city and no one lives close to me.
Reolink's mic and audio is pretty good and I also just noticed it that in the audio settings, this camera has noise cancellation that you can dial in.
Can you do a comparison of the argus 4 pro vs the duo 3 poe/wifi.
Hello @lifehackster which is the best floodlight camera to scare intruders? It’s for a property in Nicaragua like in the mountains (where it’s kind of dark) so we’re looking for something with bright lights, sirens, detect intruders, reliable (since we only visit that property like 3 times a year), reasonably priced, I don’t mind paying a subscription fee or if the camera looks bulky as long as it’s reliable. There are so many options that I don’t know which one is best. Appreciate your help!
My Duo 3 POE does not have the image settings button to enable motion track. How did you get it?
great review as always. I do notice the vertical or up down field of view compared to the duo 2 is a bit more narrow but horizontally it is a true 180 degree fov unlike duo 2 only 170. for my use vertical fov is more important so its kinda one step forward half a step backward. I have two duo 2 cams installed one cam is directly over my garage door brick wall mounted at around 10 feet height from the ground. walking towards the camera when I'm basically directly under it I disappear into the blind spot area. I can then do what a potential vandal could do hit it from behind with a pipe bat or cut the cable behind the housing. so to mitigate this problem I have 2 cx410 cams facing inward at the corners on the same wall to view downward below my duo 2. another option I could try is 2 of these duo 3/2 cams installed with one cam higher up above the bottom one both centered of course and the lower cam can be tilted downward much more and the blind area will be smaller. but still it is good to see new and better stuff come out. LH whenever you got the time to make it happen a same day footage comparison between both duo cams would be nice.
add this. or make a software controlled tillable mechanism mount or adapter for the duo cam
I will eventually try to compare this 2 but I will tell you that the duo3 has way more limited FOV vertically compared to the Dou2 and it might not work with your setup.
@@LifeHackster yep your correct. I actually think having 2 matching duo cams one above the other probably would end up with not matching diagonal distortion near both ends of the fov. I could be wrong even tho I haven't tried or tested this setup with the 2 duo 2s I have.
The time lapse feature has been available for a while no? You have to enable it manually each day which is a chore, I wish they'd allow you to 'set and forget' but alas, they don't.
I would choose a duo
What NVR supports this camera, I have already had to update my Reolink NVR twice as they never seem to be compatible too long before their new camera's are not compatible with your NVR needing you to update your NVR.
Hi hackster I need a recommendation for 1 camera I already have other camera but I would like to add another camera to my front yard but I need a good camera with good quality that auto detects people and zooms in from a couple feet away because recently my neighborhood has been having a lot of cars getting broken into and I would like to be able to auto detect people and zoom in from afar or good digital zoom
Do i need to use the Reolink app software or can I use different NVR software?
Compste to eufy 24/7 tracking cam?
I'm heavily considering Reolink over Eufy just because of the scandal about a year ago where they were uploading recordings to their cloud even though they claimed it was local only.
11:20 how to I get motion track? I have plany of reolink cameras but this I dont know how to get?! thx!
what kind of poe switch u need for this camera 12 24 48v ?
which camera has best clarity @50 feet other than the one that has 16x zoom
Video output is a single file with a stitched 180 video or two files with videos from each Len? Thank you
1 file
Is the field of view shrunk down a little compared to the reolink duo 2 version? I see your using the pocket 3 to film your 1st person shots, what acceories are you using with it? I just got one myself
The vertical - 55 degrees for the Duo 3 and 60 for the Duo 2. I didn't use the pocket 3 in this video unfortunately because I had the "screen" issue that some were having and I have sent it out to DJI to be fixed. (They sent me a new one)
@@LifeHackster A guy on Reolink Reddit did an exact overly pic of the Duo 3 over a Duo 2 pic. The vertical loss is over 10 degrees. Reolink should change the specs to the true loss.
1:33 on the documentation it says
Please make sure there are at least 2 channels available on the NVR since the camera will occupy 2 channels.
Hi LifeHackster...Question: Can I connect to my Google Wifi points (non-router) using PoE or does it have to connect to the main router?
I'm assuming you will connect it to an access point that is connected wirelessly. You will be able to but most likely will get into connection cut outs or problems.
@@LifeHackster thank you!
Plz do some more TAPO stuff reviews. Thanks
Will do.
This camera does everything but make me breakfast 👍🏼
Does this require a monthly subscription?
Thank you for your videos. They are really helpful with a good balance between technical and practical user info. One question which is general and not only applicable to this camera. You seem to only test the maximum detection distance in daylight. How is this distance affected during night time when I have the biggest risk for intrusion? I am worried that areas that will be covered for detection during day time will not be protected during night time.
It is usually around 30 feet with Reolink but it will depend on your ambient lighting. At night, the camera will have a hard time discerning human shapes at farther distances compared to during daytime. If someone intrudes your property, they have to get closer than 30 feet and the camera will definitely detect that.
@@LifeHackster Thank you for your response. Is this distance generally reduced for wireless cameras or is it the same?
@@gerhardduplooy7376 wireless or battery powered cams uses a PiR sensor which has around 20-30 feet reliable detection range to trigger it and it will still depend on how the camera sees at night (lighting conditions) to know if the motion is a human or not…now this is when AI smart detection is used.
Which NVR would you recommend that for work well with this camera?
Reolink NVR.
@@LifeHackster do they only have one? Or does it support all of the NVR from reolink?
Will this fit on the REOLINK outdoor box with preset holes?
The camera a body is held together by a single screw hole, just look at a box with a centered bottom screw hole and you're fine
On the description on their website for their junction box B10, it will have the screw holes for it.
Can you install this camera upside-down and flip the image?
From saudi 👍
Thanks for watching!
11:40 Yes!
Hey, can you do some pan and tilt to link reviews please?
Tp link *
Sure, when their new models comes out.
I want that video…2 cheaper single cameras vs 1 dual lens wide angle vs 1 pan tracking. It seems to me that single cameras is the way to go especially for reliability.
Would love to see a direct duo 2 vs 3 comparison since the duo 3 has a narrower vertical FOV. See just how much you’re missing. I know it’s “just” 5 degrees but in actual practice you might be unable to get your entire backyard, or in my case, have to choose between seeing my driveway or seeing the street so I can give a description of a car or person walking by
The vertical field of view loss is more than 10 degrees. Reolink should change the specs. A guy on Reolink Reddit did an exact overlay pic of the Dou 3 over the Duo 3 showing the vertical loss.
No matter what you do, without extra lighting, night is a challenge. I have a big property to protect and I'm installing motion sensors with light in areas I force them (unless they like climbing fences) through. With this, I'd probably just get two 8 mp cameras. Unless you go all in on Reolink (NVR and all cams), you will have more compatibility problems than it's worth.
what size spade bit or drill bit did you use to make the hole?
3/4 inch minimum
@@LifeHackster thank you!
Do you feel like you lost a lot of vertical field compared to Duo 2? How is the night time performance compared to Duo 2 without spot light or IR, just with porch light?
The 5 degrees difference in the vertical FOV..as to FOV, not that much because half of the vertical anyways when set up in a 1 story house would be the sky...BUT, the user experience in the app is definitely affected that you do need to turn your phone in landscape mode to see better. As to video quality, within 30 feet, there is not a lot of difference between the 2.
@@LifeHacksterAs I stated in prior reply, the vertical loss of the Duo 3 is over 10 degrees, Reolink needs to change the specs.
@@markd.songsandstuff7728 I just uploaded a video… I compared the FOV to the 811A which is also 55 degrees and they are the same.
@@LifeHackster Just my opinion but to me there is more vertical sky above the neighbor's roof with the 811A than the Duo 3, but not a huge difference.
11:08 For me that would be deal breaker for wide view. I was happy find a perfect high resolution camera to read number plates. 11:30 Look forward to other models before making purchase decision. So far what camera would you recommend for clarity for number plates regardless of fov!? Hate blink low res cameras. Good video
You can read license plates with any 4k resolution reolink camera (not duo 2). You will never be able to read license plates of moving cars at night rho, doesnt matter what brand you use. You need a LPR or ANPR camera for that.
Hackster, do you have any idea when there going to release the cx810 ?
I'm waiting for this one as well!
I haven't heard anything yet.
When is going to launch the 16MP Duo 3V POE?
I haven't heard anything yet. Hopefully, soon.
The resolution of 16mp is 5312 x 2988 for one lense, so for a dual 16mp camera it should be 2 x 5312 x 2988 resolution combined.
Thats why the Duo 3 footage is not impressive compared to other 4K cameras, Duo 3 is actually a 2160p resolution camera.
It is a play of words in advertising. It is basically two 8MP sensor cameras, not 2 16MP.
So you only get true colour night vision with the spotlight on?
Just got mine setup a couple days ago - you can set it to use color at night by turning off the auto night mode. I don't use the spotlight and the image is decent.
This Duo 3 16MP can be used with the regular NVR?
Reolink's NVR.
@@LifeHackster Yes, I mean Reolink NVR but only support up to 12MP and there is no update so far for the RLN8-410.
@@VictorSantos-fs5bu as you can seen in the video. I hooked up mine, no issues.
@@LifeHackster thank you very much.
Honestly, why not just go to the website of the actual manufacturer? LH is fantastic at showing the practicalities but surely you must realise the technicalities should direct you straight to the folk that manufacture it?
This seems wayy better than Ring, I need a cam for my garage, but I already am in the Ring eco system. 3 cams, doorbell, and alarm. So kinda forced to buy more ring products, as I like the one app for all
It feels like Reolink are coming out with camera every week.
Just a question what is the difference between duo3. 3T and 3V
Form factor and design mostly.
Hey @@LifeHackster Thanks for the quick reply! after many years of IP cameras in my hotel....starting with D-link in 2011 (super expensive at the time) then to dahua(nice bur very hard to set up and make them functional) and now to Imou and TAPO(for the cafeteria mostly)
I decided to change all my cameras to reolink because of your analysys!....
A big issue for me is that on the street side i can't read the licence plates (30 meters is my hotel length and cars drive by usually with 20Km/h...very good municipality lighting all night)
I tried the 811 even with zoom (live view feed)I couldn't get the moving cars plates.... only the parked ones....maybe there should be a better image processing NRV?
So the question is should i get the new the duo3 to install it in the middle of the hotel and get more chances to get the licence plates(15 meters each side if i place it in the middle of the wall)
Maybe i should seek for more Frames/Second than MegaPixels?
Thank you very much for your time
License plates reading of moving cars is going to be a hit or miss when using any regular security cams. LPR cams would be a better option because it is specialized for that purpose. Now, if the cars are stopped or in a parking lot, then yes, most cameras with narrower FOV or optically zoomed lens will work. I would not recommend the Duo 3 or any wide angle lens cameras for this purpose though. @@manolisvl46
@@LifeHackster I want to stick with the reolink cameras though...
So I better get rlc-81pa or rlc-81ma?
Hello quick question why can’t I see the past day’s history from my cámaras if it’s disconnected? I can only see it if they are connected 😅
Because they are disconnected lol
Only way to retrieve the footage of a discomnected camera would be to take the microSD out of it or if you have an NVR or DVR.
@@VastardokKukiao 😂
@@VastardokKukiao thank you maybe I need to get some SD cards
Teste as cameras de outras marcas, asecam, Hikivison, vikilin
My experience with motion tracking (with various brands) have been disappointing. At this point, I'd prefer/wish I had a wide FOV.
Motion tracking cameras have more parts and features that can fail compared to a static camera that has a wider FOV.
Is there a tech model where possibly there's 180 FOV (like WYZE) and a separate zoom cam like the latest EUFY? Perhaps that combo on one moulding could have best of both worlds. @@LifeHackster
I wanna love the Reolink Duo series but there's A LOT of design flaws: the whole mount is held together by a single bottom screw, the power cable is directly exposed and there's NO way to hide it, the provided mount is way too long and makes the camera wobble a lot, and the SD Card port is literally at the front in plain sight where everyone can see it. In case you have the siren turned off the camera doesn't even makes sounds or alert you if someone physically moves it out of the field of vision (like eufy's thief detection).
Sure if you're installing this camera on a tall wall or activate the siren on motion detection 24/7 none of this matter, right? But if your only option is a 2.x meter wall (which is the recommended height by Reolink btw) then someone can still cut the power cord, or remove the SD card, or straight up just pull out the whole camera body and steal it (and you won't be even notified about it!) in plain daylight so it's better to look somewhere else. It definitely doesn't pass the vandal/thief test which it sucks giving that I really wanted to install this camera on my area. (Not even gonna mention that is really ugly and sticks out a lot, and the cable end with the reset button is such a bad idea...)
The other 2 new models are better looking and easier to install especially in under the eaves or ceiling install.
@@LifeHackster Yes I'm really looking forward the new Argus 4k dual lens 180°! It fixes most of the designs flaws of the duo 3 in a smaller better-looking form factor
Thats why you have to pair your camera security ayatem with an alarm and motion sensor system... Be smart....
Would say the duo series is better than RL CX410
Until the sun goes down.
They are different cameras with different purposes. I wish they will come out with a dual lens CX line soon.
@@LifeHacksterroelink could make a dual lens cam right now that is like the original duo in the same or similar housing but with the cx410 colorX sensor and processing hardware.
Which NVR do you recommend to go with this?
The only you can use ir reolink nvr
REOLINK IS JUST KILLING IT ! Ring who? You might as well throw your Ring system in the trash at this point.. 16mp looks great, 20 FPS is very good for 16mp and audio is very clear and good.
if you wanna do a audio test try whispering in your back yard by the fence and lets see if it can pick it up.. My trackmix can hear conversation from across the street. very impressive.. Reolink for the win ! Im gonna get a full Reolink Poe system soon.. anyone wanna buy a Ring camera door stop?
Not Wi-Fi ??
Not yet. They will eventually release one.
💐🌷🌹👏👍🌹🌷💐
Thanks for watching!
256GB maximum capacity is a bit low for a duo-4k resolution. Reolink should have at least upgraded to 512GB, 1TB will be better.
But one can see this camera is better setup with a NVR system which then eliminate the storage amount constraint.
Guess there will not be a WiFi version for such high resolution model.
I agree with a redditor that has a good comparison beteen the duo 2 and the duo 3 FOV. The "5 degree" difference seems to be a lie. Theres no way that much vertical loss is only 5 degrees.
The limited 50 degree FOV is not a concern if you are hooking this up in a 1 story house. With an 8 feet height of install, it is just enough to not show mostly the sky. Now, the only thing is that because of narrow vertical FOV, in the app, you need to flip your phone to landscape mode to see the feed better.
@@LifeHackster I actually disagree with you because I currently have my Duo to on a single story home. The install is definitely higher than 8 ft though, so I could catch as much in my current fov as I wanted. If I changed it out to the duo 3 I would be able to see my driveway still and probably half of the street in front of my house but I wouldn't be able to see beyond that.
Does not compare to the far pricier Annke NCD800 camera for color night vision. And that mount, wow, that is really cheesy looking.
same max sd card size = less recording, reduced fov = less useful, 16mp = nobody was asking for, same poor night vision, same goofy design ... how about something people actually want like a turret CX, event timelines, or rich push notifications? they get lots of feedback in the forums, but it's like they aren't listening. motion track is nice, but pretty 1990's to have to open your email to see it.
I told them about just use the CX sensor on all their camera line. A turret /dome CX would be great.
I will take the 16 mp thanks
Still no rich notifications............
Yes. But it also means that nothing is stored in the cloud or a server.
@@LifeHackster I prefer rich notifications then, like any other brand is providing on their cameras.
Wow Reolink still has low quality cameras compared to the cheap ones available on amazon. You would think with name recognition that they would improve the views. It is strange that the mp goes higher but the picture doesn't improve.
I would rather have 30fps than 16mp, which is really 8mp.
They really need to change the mount.I found it flimsy and the fact that it leaves an open hole allows bees to crawl inside.
Dual camera is not as clear at a distance at night
The app is garbage for playback control. The zoom keeps resetting instead of staying at the set zoom anytime u skip around in the timeline. Also there are no basic things like skip or zoom control buttons. Very annoying to use. They obviously haven't tried using zoom from the touchpad of a laptop. The camera mount sucks too. Can't do basic angles. I had to borrow a mount from my 10 yr old Axis brand cam. Probably gonna end up returning this piece of crap. This product needs LOTS of refinement.
I bought both the 12MP and the 16MP. The 16's image quality is comparatively very poor. Way over sharpened, many more compression artifacts, and not nearly enough noticeable resolution to justify its higher price or higher bitrate.
Thata because it is a duo lens. It is basically 2 8MP cameras stitched together. Of course it is going to be lesser quality than the 12 mp....
@@VastardokKukiao Oops, I should have said I bought both Duo 2 and Duo 3. So that would we be 8MP vs 16MP. It's definitely double the file size and maybe 1.2x the quality. Rushed that trash back to the company.
reolink in australia is a joke,, they never have any stock, im going to have to pick another brand unfortunatley
My big issue with Reolink is that their cameras are ugly compared to the competition.
I was hoping they would change the way it looks this time around. You remember that movie short circuit? Don't the duo 3 look like Johnny 5? lol
I know the design of the Duo needs to grow on you but the other 2 new models in the series is going to be a good one for under the eaves or horizontal install.
What competition does this camera have?
I don't think anyone has done the twin camera setup like this @@Thecarcissist12
And to my understanding there is no way to snooze notifications.
