I just upgraded two my my DUO 2 to 3's. While the FOV of the DUO 2 is nice in some of my areas, I crop and zoom a lot with the ones I replaced, so the upgrade in the pic quality I get was worth it. The only downside is that the resolution of the DUO 3 increased but the highest bitrate available is still the same as the DUO 2. I feel like we may not be getting the best picture the higher resolution could offer due to the bottleneck of it having the same bitrate as the DUO 2 :(
did you crop and zoom the video while it is recording and if so how do you do it?
@@dmzmexican I use synology surveillance station and then drag/digital zoom the image. In real time - live. I'd use some video editing software like premier to do any kind of crop, etc to the recordings if necessary.
What did they do to the image processing with the Duo 3? Duo 2 kicks the 3's butt when it comes to colour and sharpening.
The 3 just looks awful, wtf
Sticking with the Duo2, I actually need the extra vertical FOV as I mount it very high and don't want blind spots.
Duo 3 is much better day and night. seems to let more light in during the day also.
Duo 2 has a darker tone, like it would have a smoked lens view.
Wow that drastically smaller vertical FOV ruined my thoughts to upgrade my DUO 2 to the 3. Also 3 seems way over sharpened. Thank you :)
Yes, if you are upgrading, you do need to take this into account because you will loose that field of view.
The oversharpening is absolutely bonkers.
The 3 seems much sharper and clearer.
Would be cool to see a comparison of the duo 3 and the new lorex dual 4K camera
Thanks much for the comparison showing the lesser vertical view of the Duo 3. The Duo 3 top is the neighbor's roof line, the Duo 2 top is up into the sky, that's more than 5 degrees to me. The 811A also has more view to me, more vertical sky above the neighbor's roof but not a huge difference. Thanks again. You are the go to man for cam reviews!
Thanks for watching!
I think the height where you mount will make impact for Duo 3. You can't mount very high with Duo 3. The first generation Duo was worse.
@@LifeHackster
Do you think eufy 3 s330 or duo 3 is better in your opinion?
How did you route the cable thru the plastic mount hole?? The wire contractors are way too big. Did you drill it out?? Great video!!
Hey Life Hackster. I wonder what your neighbours think with all the cameras? Fort Knox...😅 i get comments all my Reolinks. Factor I'd rather have a deterrent than be a victim. Also they have helped identify what animals have been destroying plants and lawn.
They know what I do and they are not surprised of me running around the backyard talking to myself :)
Talking to yourself is usually the first sign of madness. But in this instance you are exonerated from any suspicion. 😅
I do like the extra vertical height on the D2. But the features on the D3 would make a good choice too. I prefer the D3
good comparisons, thanks... now if only I could move my house to position the cameras better lol
Thanks for the video. Real disappointment about the Fov on the 3. Mounting under a soffit would force me to choose a blind spot in both the front and back of my house so basically makes this an easy choice to stick with my 2 in the back and 822 up front
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review as I’ve been debating both. Did you have the same bitrate setting for both? Looking at their specs, the duo3 has a smaller 2.8mm lens than the 3.2mm of the duo2. That could explain the loss of vertical field of view. Duo3 might have higher resolution but it seems to also have so many digital artifacts that I may now be convinced to try the duo2. Thanks again!
awesome comparison with both cameras. If vertical fov is important then the duo 2 is better for that. on detail and image clarity for objects farther away duo 3 has it. it look kinda over sharpened. the duo 3 should have better hdr shadows are not as dark. I don't hear any difference between noise reduction on or off. for me I have my duo 2 centered over the garage door and driveway looking outward across the street around 60 yards out and I can see the sky and entire trees taller than a 2 story house. with the duo 3 if I matched the viewing area at the top edge I would have more blind spot area near the garage door. thank you again for everything you do.
Thanks for watching!
I think some of the video quality difference is down to Reolink increasing the default level of sharpness. If you use a CX410, it's so oversharpened it almost hurts to look at. If you look at the blades of grass on the duo2 vs 3 it seems like the sharpening is quite a bit different, so the license plate snapshots may not be apples to apples. The noise reducton turned on didn't seem to provide any benefit, perhaps even sounding worse.
I've noticed early edition duo2 has had a update but what gets me can't they make a camera that can just be firmware updated instead of purchasing again and again... maybe that's down track.
Yes also i believe licence plate recognition is dependent on house street. I live on a hill side i can only get cars into property not on main straight road.
Can you review Reolink POE 360 camera?
excellent video... I love perfection. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That thumbnail really made them look like ET 😂
I 'm looking at my duo 2 rn and it's definitely not that dark at night with only ir lights on. It's not pitch black like that at all. Either the contrast is shot up on purpose to black it out here or something is off. No way. Even looking at the duo 2 review it's not this drasticily dark. I can see the fence posts in the og duo 2 video but not this one. Weird. Can barely even see the porch in this video.
The only thing that I can think of because I did try to tilt it up but the same thing..but I think it is my eaves, the reflection messes up with the autoexposure and this is the same thing when the spotlights are ON. In my original review, I used the WIFI version of it and it is on a different install. The Duo 3 seems to handle the exposure better even though my eaves are also showing on the top edges.
@@LifeHackster oh yeah the eves and light reflection at the top will definitely do that.
I returned my Duo 3 since the image quality is unusable. They ratchet up the sharpness by default to trick the compressor into not demolishing the edge details like it does the rest of the image.
Looks absolutely horrendous.
I have the duo 2 and I hate it. Can't sell because it has poor resale value
Side note...these cameras won't pickup a license plate number unless there on rhe curb. I do like them still.
A lot of factors involved to read plates, angle of the camera, lighting etc.
The reduced vertical field of view makes the camera almost useless. Who over though of that idea should be fired. Hopefully reolink fixes this and return it to 60 degrees in the future models.
Has reolink made a better version of the RLC823A which I still have. It absolutely sucks at tracking people smoothly,
1) the very fast, jerky on/off fast movements of the cameras motor and the extremely loud motor gear noise makes for a very poor tracking.
2) If someone walks directly towards the camera, or even within a couple of meters of it, and then under it, the camera does not track them fast enough and will lose them as they walk underneath the camera area. THe camera is capable of tilting down a full 90' so I expect the target tracking to bloody well do this too.
Thanks this helped me solidify my decision to go with the Duo 3 given Prime day has a good deal. The new Argus looks pretty cool to for a battery powerd wifi solution.
What would the Duo 3 look like if installed in a 8 foot wide side yard, if mounted in the middle of the side yard, pointed straight down? Would I be able to see my whole side yard, from front gate to back wall?
You can get the 520A with a 2.8mm lens. It has an fov of 100° horizontal x 75° vertical. Honestly my favourite camera for indoors.
Can you test the new Lorex Dou ? They just released a new two camera dual camera? Please
I have to check it out. Thanks.
Vertical FOV is underrated
Duo 3 seems much sharper, better night vision....worth the buy i would say if shopping for New and not needing an upgrade.
I went with the ring camera and I have aluminum sided home. So all you hear is this this constant static ricochet sort of 10 can sound whenever car goes by. Or if there’s any type of other noise. How can I eliminate that? Would it help if I mounted the system on some type of board?
❤ for the updates!
I'm not sure what Ring camera you have but I know there regular ones doesn't really sound good and I know their Floodlight cam Pro has noise cancelling which is pretty good on that.
I can’t wait for your future video!
Thanks for watching!
Hello, I have a question, can I record a soccer game with the wifi version of the duo 2 cam? thanks a lot.
I was going for the duo 2 with attached floodlights. How do I link the duo 3 with floodlight ?
The colors and exposure on the Duo 2 seem miles ahead the Duo 3. I understand you can tweak settings within the app for each camera but if that's the default setting for the duo 3 then I might consider the duo 2 and save about 60-70 bucks.
Would just lift the shadows on the Duo 2 a bit and call it a day. Looks miles better.
What is your favorite reolink camera for overall video quality
Why get a camera system where a crook can walk away with your video footage? Seems silly without cloud
So, these camaras have both audio and mic? Or just audio?
Both. It has 2 way talk.
The Duo 3 looks great! I’d like to face this camera towards the street. Is this legal? Sometimes we have trouble makers come by, but not sure if recording towards the street is okay
Fix the warning sticker in a window to be a legal viewer.
Good stuff, thanks.
Thanks for watching!
you won't see the full benefits of 16mp resolution unless you actually view it on an 8k device
That is a myth…btw, this camera is 2-4K (8MP) cameras stitched into one (side by side). The main purpose of higher resolution cameras is that you can digitally zoom and have a better video quality and clarity..that is even if you are just watching it in a phone screen.
Looks like the bitrate for the test is set a bit low?
Do they work with any Reolink NVR?
I think vertical field of Duo 3 is a big letdown but Duo 3 appears to be much brighter at night which is really important to me. How high did you mount your Duo 3? I don't mount my Duo 2 camera very high so that may help the issue with vertical field. Mine should arrive Monday so I shall see.
Both are installed at 7 1/2 feet.
Looking forward to the future vids you mentioned. Great idea!
No doubt, DUO 3 is better.
Many thanks. 🌹🌹🌷🌹🌹
Welcome 😊
Thank you
Didnt you already make this video?
Nope. I did make the review video but not the comparison.
I dont care how good a cam is. If it looks like shit on my property im not buying it. Looks like Johhny5.
Johnny 5 was cool
INPUT LEXO,..........NEED....INPUT !!!
Johnny 55 MP NOT JUST CAMERA
JOHNNY 55.......IS ALIVE!!!!
Hi. LH. Which one has bater image Quality at night Duo 3 ,,16 MP “ camera of one of the 12MP camera ?
I think about the same.
Just curious does who pays the most gets the best review?
How about the camera that performs the best and with a better video quality than the rest gets the best review…
Guys never buy Duo2 camera ,it is not compatabile with the NVR system. The camera is good but it will not record the voice and we are trying our best to get the service team to sort it out. Those itiots doesnot know what they are talking about .
Have you toggled to record audio in the audio settings by any chance? I have no issues with mine.
RTSP or HTTPS? My doorbell has to be set to HTTPS (FLV) to do proper and synced audio transmission.
Now that's a good review.
