For the Japanese curry it is here Fukujinzuke (pickles),. The red pickles you meant are something different and usually served with curries, okonomiyaki, yakisoba...so you often get red miso leaves coloured young red ginger in Japan, this is not radish (like they do in the US ) and is called beni shoga (do not think of gari shoga that you get with sushi).

So we made a mistake while editing. We didnt go to Dozen Ryokan. We went to Izuyasu Ryokan. You need to stay there in order to get the dinner. You can book it with out the dinner or combo package.
My ultimate favorite is restaurant Mamehachi Honten in Kyoto,... they specialize in tofu dishes. In Arashiyama there is London Books,... the first place I could find a complete collection of Dostoevsky in Japanese ( ´ ▽ ` )ﾉ
Is there anything healthy to eat out there? I mean like at an establishment.. this is all like fried and they even said they were dipping stuff in mayo lol

Sashimi is pretty healthy and there are a bunch of vegan options. I don't know any specific establishments because we like to eat unhealthy things lol
