  • Una de las grandes sorpresas de la gira 2019 de Mark, ha sido precisamente este tema. No tocado desde el año 1983, forma parte de la gran leyenda en que se convirtieron los Dire Straits.

Kept hearing these amazing guitar licks, and I'd look around the stage at all the guitarists to see who was playing them, and it was always Mark Knopfler! I never knew. Definitely one of the best guitarists alive today. If you asked me if I wanted to see Paul McCartney and Ringo playing a reunion gig or Knopfler with his current band, I'd have to pick Knopfler. To me he almost sounds like the Geordie rock version of a Morgan Freeman narration track... very steady, reassuring, deeply personal.

      Who else can play like this? Well, no one - MK is unique. But you could try listening to one of his mates who also does something special but different: listen right the way through and don't be tempted to put the volume up - it's best listened to intimate-style (they both are tbh - which tells us something!).

    Mark Knopfler can find the timeless instrumentality of a song to lure the ancestors' memories of the glories of sound amid a tortuous life...the beauty of a song to ease the mind into a hinterland of genetic memory and the realities of the moment. Knopfler can untangle the neurons so that a state of harmony allows you the FEEL again and THINK of the essence of this world we have made while corrupting the gift our God presented us. A profound writer with a God given talent and mastery of the guitar with generations of performances as proof.

    • @Shamrockrancher
      @Shamrockrancher 4 года назад +5

      Man I grew to loath Making Movies! I loved Dire Straits when they first came out. Their first album got so much air play on KATT, I was stationed at Tinker AFB in OKC. Communique came out and got virtually no air play since the first album was still so hot (which was too bad, Communique is excellent). Anyway, when Making Movies came out KATT just beat "Roller Girl" to death. I swear they played it once an hour. I was so sick of hearing it, I never played the album thereafter. I had my love for Dire Straits re-kindled with Love over Gold. Man, Mark and team has made some really tasty stuff. A funny but sad story if I may?
      I was and am living in Dallas. I had floor seats for Dire Straits on Valentines Day. I was so psyc'd for weeks in anticipation. The night of the show, the row in front of me had about a dozen really drunk chicks who felt compelled to sing every song, badly. I was so mad. I wanted to say something to them but I knew that would only have caused them to sing louder. Ruined night. Great seats. One of my favorite bands of all time. Grrrrrrrrr 👿

    Mark wrote the songs that the strings wanted to play and every ear wanted to hear. Every tune had the world saying "how did the world exist this long without this song being written before?"
    Just a tune you never get tired of. Back in the late 70s I remember a lot of fans and DJs saying that they didn't put much into this second album, it was nothing like the first, et cetera, but this song alone meant you just had to buy the album.

      The original Dire Straits was his best work IMHO. Mark, his brother David, Pick Withers and John Illsley set the musical world on it's ear in 1978 while single handedly killing Disco. He sounds great as a solo artist and sounds good on a Les Paul, but he excels on the Strat along with the amazing stark haunting beauty of those four musicians whose music has never been equaled.
