I think the tittle "Grand Master" is reserved for artist like Sohyang. Truly the best singer I've ever heard.

I was dumbfounded when I saw that Sohyang did not make it onto the "Rolling Stones 200 Greatest Singers of all Time" list. Jung Kook and IU were the only Koreans to make the list. But, not Sohyang? Unbelievable!
Sounds more like a popularity contest to me. There so many amazing korean vocalists, the fact that Sohyang or Bada are not in there is a crime

WOW! John, I have watched you hoping to see this performance. You are the best of my favorite reactor/coaches because you feel the music and I wanted you to see this. I said see because, in order to understand Sohyang, you need to SEE her sing. As you know, she is deeply religious, a Gospel singer from her roots, and this IS her Cornerstone performance. It is a Sermon from the sweetest preacher you ever heard. That Acapella section was exquisite, perfect, and then the last minute of the performance is the essence of pure joy. Who else could do this? Only Lady Sohyang. Beauty, grace, power, of person and of voice. When she soars into those high notes with a straight tone and then unleashes that shimmering vibrato, it is like nothing you've ever heard . . . . Sorry about gushing like a schoolboy, but Sohyang IS the Queen of Sopranos and very likely the finest person on the planet.

omfggg haven't watched yet but feel so relieved seeing this already! it's nearly criminal to not get the translated lyrics, even though it can "detract from the listening/watching experience" (i'd agree when the subs are poorly done especially!), BUT this one song, this one performance, this one translation...everything came out perfectly & it truly gives the song the full emotional power it originally possessed.
Amen. I sent this link to him (and others) for over two years. Nobody else has used it and they always comment "I wish I knew what she was saying in the middle when she is talking."

In her interviews she has mentioned that this was the most difficult song she has ever done. I haven't found her singing it again (if someone does plz inform). What a marathon, what a rollercoaster, what an arrangement and what a performer. She checks all the boxes and always offers extra thrills and embellishments. We are lucky to have her recorded so we can enjoy her over and over.👍👍👏👏👏

Ive heard a comment saying she sung it recently in her concert for the 2nd time. Looking for reaction videos of this song, there's something I always want to comment on. When the singer who made the song wrote the lyrics, he wrote the lyrics thinking about his young sister who lived unfortunately. Sohyang remade it with love for God, but please also remember how much writer loved her sister in this song. What a sad and beautiful song!

I cry every time I watch this. Knowing that this phenomenal person lost one of her dreams at a very young age (to be a mother, she had cancer), grieved, I’m sure, and then dusted herself off and dedicated her life to singing for her god and to comfort people with her voice. Yes, however stunning, Sohyang singing transcends the technical.
Just as with Arirang Alone it is impossible to imagine another vocalist attempting this arrangement not just for the vocal difficulty but the fact that her passion is so genuine. When I saw the notification that this video was up I expected it to be 40 minutes long, but really enjoyed you just going with the flow which really is the best way to experience her.

Seven minutes of intense stamina and breath control. Absolutely agree, it's not just about her perfect technique, but also about the passion, energy and emotion she conveys in every performance, and it's what makes her so unique and special.

Individually exceptionally beautiful voices and vocal ranges (highest and lowest pitches), together a musical delight in perfection. Technically highly qualified, they create most incredible sounds and harmonies in various genres and styles. A musical treat that you shouldn't miss anymore. For start, I recommend their version of "Bohemian Rhapsody.
If you look closely at the lyrics of this song, you can see that Sohyang's life and confession of faith are all contained. God, who cured cancer and gave a new life that he had visited in her early 20s, and Sohyang, who decided to sing for him for the rest of her life. When I was a very young child, I got a chance to watch and listen to this song on TV. It was 1979. And that show was the very first performance of this song "Everyone" by Korean singer Yoon Bok Hee (She wrote lyrics and composed this song including English lyrics part while she was praying.)
Since then this song became my life song until now. I am so happy Sohyang sang this great song with her full of passion and soul and spread this song to the world. And thank you for your true reaction.

In agreement with your comment about control: she has a high degree of specificity of control over physical and acoustic register change, even her glottal closure quotient and voluntary control of the thinning and thickening of the folds themselves. The cherry on top of all of that is that she gives every sound that she wants to produce the right amount of support and compression.

Edit : alright I finished watching the video, and now I know why the video is so short compared to your reactions of her in the past - which is quite ironic since Everyone is her longest performance.
Loved the video and absolutely loved your genuine reactions to her, but I wish you made more stops to analyse her vocals like you did in the past. Especially since So Hyang herself confirmed that Everyone is her most challenging performance, I was really looking forward to hearing you break down her vocal techniques.
Still this reaction video felt like a christmas gift, thank you for finally reacting to it !
Yes, I appreciate him, letting himself just react and watch it as a fan, but I like when a person is able to balance the technical analysis with the reaction. Oh well, maybe he figured he can get away with it just this one time since he’s analyzed what she does so many times.

There's no singer I watch reactors to more than Sohyang. Glad whenever a vocal coach stops by her again. It's often the same handful of songs then off they go. I search her daily for new reactions hence why I'm here. All that said, never have overly liked this one. Just a bit too much for me. For me it's the ones in the masked singer, Fate from I am singer and Misty from begin again korea that are just magic. And so easy on the ears. You wouldn't believe those. But will you reach them? Fully aware of the stack always getting put up first. Also love several of those too, Arirang Alone, lean on me, I have nothing. All epic. Bridge, this one and you raise me up...I just sigh a bit because they end up in the way of those others ever reached. And there's that damn much magic in those listed.
