What's After The Nissan R34 GT-R?

- The importing of JDM legends is at its peak. We've seen Acura NSX's, Mitsubishi Evo's, old school Subaru's, Honda Civics and FINALLY, the Nissan R34 GTR. It seems like ALL the big dogs on RUclips have theirs too, with TJ Hunt dropping a huge series on his R34, Adam LZ racing his across the compound, and brands scooping up what's left of the MotoRex cars for $500,000 or more. But what's after that? The dream car of our generation has seemed to be the R34 nissan GTR, and now it'll be here. What's left to import and where will the market go? Well today, we chat about it.

Where do you think people will find their "dream car" next? Will a new Fast and Furious usher in a love towards Porsche or will we see our generation continue to drool over the same 4 taillights for all of eternity? Let me know and of course, thanks for tuning today. Missed chatting with you all and I promise to upload our FD Seattle content + S2000 build stuff shortly so subscribe to stay tuned ;) - Subscribe - bit.ly/3kXgWr0
My main dream car has been a 2003 Mystichrome Terminator Mustang since I was in 5th grade. As far as "obtainable" dream cars go at least. Otherwise my dream cars are either a black 1969 Mustang BOSS 429 or a Superformance GT40. Or heck even a 2006 Ford GT. 🤷
JDM cars are cool but the only Japanese car I dream of having is a Mitsubishi Evo IX
toyota sera. "am i a joke to you?"
Porsche 997's are next. They're not as fast as the new ones, but they're still peak Porsche.
For the Evo fans would totally be the Evo VI TME aka “Evo 6.5”
Just subscribed and definitely follow looking to purchase my dream car I just don’t know what yet not to flashy I’m a muscle guy but help me out one martini to another
Living in Japan there's a ton of cars that are slept on and I think once the American market starts to get sight of those cars it'll shift to the newer cars for example the Toyota Mark x, Crown, JZX110, Suzuki jimny, Mitsubishi's GTO's, Delicas. Really everything that fast and furious forgot to include
Exactly, there's a lot of not so wanted cars there still and thats what I feel ppl will buy next. Even versions of cars we got in the US I can see ppl importing the rhd version, I know there's a few I would get.
Alex looking at that letter from Ferrari like it’s the light bill 😂😭if you don’t open it it’s not there 👌🏾
I do my best to pretend it's not real and tuck it underneath my coffee cup each morning :)
@@AlexMartini.damn I wanna know what it says either way you can act like it’s not there but still tell us what it says just read it to us then tell Ferrari to suck it and go on with your life 😂
I'm surprised older Audi's haven't taken off, especially after Scotto from Hoonigan tastefully restored his coupe quattro. There is also an uptick in modding vw/audi 5cyls, although it hasn't caught the eye of the bigger youtubers.
crazy, cause you can pick these things up for under £3000.
Mike from Stanceworks is getting his built up too now, just got a crazy high end cyl head for it
I was thinking the same thing. Rs4 and Rs6 models
B5 S4’s are slowly going up in popularity
Me personally the quirky 4 door jdm saloons are whats hitting for me right now. Im always drooling over stuff like the gloria, cedrick, and chasers. The vip lifestyle seems to be calling my name
I also noticed an uptick in interest in the 4 door JDM luxury sedans. Even for some of the lesser known ones like the Infiniti Q45. Either from the perspective of VIP, or just for the RWD V8 platform that is different.
I feel like driving one of those around a downtown area, especially in a Toyota crown…. I don’t know why.
Depending on the budget I feel we will also see old school Lambos coming back in style preferably the Murcielago
I'd be down to see some old Diablo's in the market!!!
back into style??? murcis have like doubled in value over the past few years lol
They've never "not" been in style for those that can afford them
The faster people jump ship from Honda market and things start to come down the better. Absolutely insane the amount of money anything pre 2000 Honda pulls now. I’ve been looking to add a late 90’s civic coupe back into the garage but man the insanity over even clapped out examples is mind boggling. Even my first Gen CRV parts are up.
I think after the S15 and Skylines, the BA falcons will be popular especially with the Barra engine. Adam LZ has already done stuff with his Barra swapped GT350
agreed AUS market is probably gonna be one of the next moves
The future isn’t going to go crazy for a few specific cars. It will go crazy for option listed items. For example, anything sporty with a manual, and low mileage, will net huge money!
We've already seen a lot of c5/c6 builds happening recently those might really shoot up. But after the s15 there arent a lot of options that we didnt get here in the states. Itll be interesting to see whats next for sure
Like JDM 350z will be available soon to import, but that's not going to be nearly as exciting from a content perspective. It'll just be really nice to be able to find low mileage ones 😅
Didn't think about the Vette's but you bring up a good point.
Think Honda dc5 & fd2 type r’s will have there place but no where near skyline level
I guess it’s the end of popular insta-clout…
@@faheemabbas3965 that's not going anywhere as long as social media is around unfortunately.
Poptart comin in with the intro hop. Shes a natural
I think its pretty simple, we are all in our late 20s early to mid 30s and these are all the cars we had on our walls/posters/game covers and as we are the generation thats the largest demo to market as we have all the disposable income, its only logical that all these cars blew up (dont forget the pandemic funds and everyone online for 2 years just searching). I dont think anyone has EVER left the euro car scene as those cars arguably appreciated more than a handful of JDM Halo cars did. Look at all the BMW 3 series cars, e30 M3s went from 40k 5 years ago to 260k, e36 m3s went from 4k to 20k. Porsches that were once 20k are now 80-120k ... these are all cars we got in domestic markets and yet they appreciated like non domestic market JDMs. my bad for going on so long, but thats my take on it! As for whats next ... RHD Euro cars, same 25 year import law applies to all countries so id go looking in markets where they had US domestic or JDM cars rebadged or bodied. Think Vauxhall in Australia. Or those really rare South African BMW's like the e23 745. Shit maybe well see LADA's come into the scene like the Russians do!
Such an amazing machine. Dating my self here, but my love for the R34 came with Gran Turismo 2. It developed from really liking the Mitsubishi 3000 GT in the original Gran Turismo.
I completely agree. I got out of American car market to go to jdm. I love my r35, been looking for an r34 to have fun with. But also been looking at Porsche, which I never thought about til recently. I don’t have any idea on trends but I do agree with things going German in the future
I think Renault and maybe Peugeot have an impact too. Although it may be small
Don't jump into what next wave. Find what car you like and grab it. For example the new Corolla GR is already in the must have market.
I think a lot of the current final combustion sports cars will be quite collectible one day. GR86, New Z, type r, supra, gr corolla will all be pretty expensive one day I assume. Also gr Yaris once it can finally be imported
Stoked for you selling a ton of tees. I see random 80s compact turbos and euros coming back. We shall see though.
So I've had my '97 Aristo for three years now and this was my exact question "Where do we go after the R34?". It's either going to grow with the older German cars; a clean M3 build is hard to ignore. But I would personally like to see more sports sedans get love. Preferably JDM, but we will see.
I think cars that have been overlooked might start getting more attention, such as soarers, altezzas, and eclipse. The altezza especially, ive been seeing more and more of them being built
@@lalito._.01 Soarers already soared in price over the past 5 years. I really wanted a JZ20 but they're something like $30k now.
There won't be another like the R34. It was part of a phenomenon in the 90's. Between the tuning scene, videogames and F&F; the R34 became an icon for the era along with the MkIV Supra, FD RX7 and NSX.
The "next R34" would have to be a vehicle that becomes a mainstream media icon while maintaining the "affordable" supercar killer. With the new Gran Turismo movie coming out, the R35 might be next but it's a long shot.
@@Mekanik.b. But the R35 is available in the US. I get it what you saying, don’t get me wrong. But fanboys rather pay $500K for a clean R34 GTR manual than $150K-$200k for an R35 GTR automatic. Is the way I see it.
I really have no idea what will be next, there could be a few Honda/Acura Type R coming but nothing as crazy as the R34. For me all a care is an S15 spec R... But here in Quebec, Can they are already going for over 30K...
I’m kinda surprised that not as many people are excited about the s15 coming soon
Old school Subarus seem be be hot right now too. You got Travis Pastranas GL wagon, MCM’s new Brumby project, Paris Lasek’s Brat, and I think Larry Chen just posted something with a brumby in Australia.
I could see highly regarded analog cars continue to rise as we move into the all electric future. V8 cars in general too. Trucks are starting to move away from 8's so Ls motors aren't going to be plentiful forever. Would love to see a resurgence in VIP builds.
Hey Alex, would you ever consider traveling to South Australia? Great car scene down here, and weather(not CURRENTLY lol)
Best guess i have is just like 50-60 years into the future, peoples jaws dropping because they just saw *any* car with an internal combustion engine
I think the appeal of the R34 was that its an affordable, dailyable, drivable, reasonable car that also has good looks, amazing handling and performance. Things you dont get with a traditional supercar. Now, you might as well buy a Mustang for that bc if you drive those things for a mile, you're losing value on a high dollar car
I’m buying it to drive it and never selling it
Literally. Overhyped to unaffordability. And people wonder what happened to all the good old cars…
@@XeroDash0 Yeah yeah, see you on craigslist in 2 years
I think R34 and then R33 are the best looking cars in the world. I like the 69 Mustang and Camaro, the Barracuda, and Ferrari 250 GTO, but Skyline in Midnight Purple is the car I would like to drive every day.
Up here in Canada, R34s are all over the place and run for about 200k+ easy
I don’t know why but I have a hunch people might start getting into or have more appreciation for low riders. Granted it’s already a big scene but with all the time and money and individuality with each one that is built I can see big RUclipsrs dipping into this scene.
I'm excited for that letter ✉️ from Féfé 🤣
b5, c5, d2, e38, e39, z3, not so much e36, same era golf/jetta, old v12/scv8 jag, mid 90s astons, w220, and many more euros under the $15k mark are going to go insane. pre 95 bmws are already nuts.
The original Focus RS's us Americans never got... along with Aussie Falcons. An XR-6 ute is gonna be tough!
I can guarantee I'll be driving the hell out of mine! I just need to learn how to record and edit well, lol!
Hey, from WI and in WCEC. Do you have the Scud shift program installed in your 458. It will change your life!
Dc5 type r is coming soon
Maybe is my RUclips search history but I’ve been watching a lot of Honda/jdm restorations.
Ray Charles could see the jdm bubble coming 15 yrs ago.
This. The only problem is buying the sweet spot where you could pay reasonable money to store them in Japan. I think that sweet spot was 2019 or so.
Well, I'll be trying to snag a few dream modern VWs in the next few years. That's for sure.
I have finally gotten my R34 GTT (4door). But I also have a first gen Audi A8 on bags. (Think German LS400). So having both JDM and Euro, I think that there mayyy be a big uptick in Euro builds in general. More on the Audi and VW side of things. I can deff see some sciroccos and caddys coming into the states once they get legal. After all the JDM God tier cars are legal. Would be cool to see some of the old Fords from the UK coming to the states though. (Escort / Sierra Cosworths)
I feel like after the s15, it’s going to be something euro, vr6 corrado maybe?
The toyota gr yaris will be the next evo 6
its saddens me that i was unable to enjoy this era of 90s-2000s japanese sports cars, especially when i'm sure i would have been able to do something if i had work harder during my teenager years
If your foreshadowing is right I’ll be happy because I’ve asked the same question to myself regarding the car market now that the overrated has become legal for importing. And all I have to say is if everyone shifts to European I very much hope so just so I can start collecting the still slept on jdm master pieces that I know for a fact will appreciate significantly 15-20 years from today without a single doubt in my mind.
The S15, the JZX100, The RX-7 Spirit-R, Toyota Crown, more Supras, and kei cars. oh and the NSX. ANYWAYS, I SAW R32 AND R33 SKYLINES FOR 10K, 20K, 40K, its crazy.
Yo for me.....that's definitely happening. I've always been a JDM fan boy and owner. But I just traded my Accord for an Audi S4. Never would have thought of actually owning one but here I am.
Probably stuff like JDM Altezzas, DC5s, yknow smaller less known JDM cars, even though we do have equivalents here.
I’m waiting for the 90’s BMW 8 series to blow up with its cool styling (pop up headlights!) and v12 engine. I’m happy it hasn’t because that what I want to get next.
A man of culture. 🧐
The OG 8 series is one of the coolest rides in the history of internal combustion.
Fiat and alfa romeo's fwd are too little in this enormous scenario, but alfa gta and fiat coupe are instant classics here in italy
What makes the Skyline GT-R desirable is its stability and engine response at high speed. Just pulls like a train
RB26’s aren’t necessarily known for being responsive
I just wanna snuggle Poptart. What a little cutie.
That letter from Ferrari is just them telling you that they love what you did with the junkyard F430. :)
Next up is ev swaps and hybrid performance tuning 🤘
Nissan Stagea is an object of my desire.
Want an r32 gt-r very much can't really import one cause of tax and the fact that you can't import a RHD car to my country and LHD's are rare as fuc so guess I'll stay with my 2011 370z for now its still fun
There are storage yards in Japan full of R34s, so the trend will be around for a while.
Those are almost all already sold to US buyers.
It’s never over so long as there are bigger turbos made each year
I know this may sound bad but I really dont like big car collectors there one of the reasons these type of cars get so expensive and unobtainable
They spend millions on R34s, Supras and the likes to let them dust for eternity in a fucking garage never being driven...
I hope the JDM bubble burst and their cars lose 3/4 of the value, but sadly that will never happen unless manufacturers start producing sports car again.
@@raphaelvsantos Sadly it is not gonna happen, i know a few people who bought their R34 GTR for 40.000 euros a 8-10 years ago. The americans fucked up the JDM market, glad i bought my Evo 5 for $15.000 and $3000 for my Subaru B4 RSK 5 years ago. GTRs are fun but if you are looking for a car that is similar check evo 4-5-6, they are way cheaper and underrated.
Don't forget TopRank's 2 million dollar R33 GTR 400R
We pivot, and start getting to see insane euro's from the early 2000's get imported. I'm sitting here waiting on 2028 to get a TVR Sagars (this is the dream)
Or the B5 RS4 Avant
Tbh, I believe that people will try to look for the rare but underrated cars like: Eclipse GSX, 3000GT VR4, Isuzu Impulse RS and Mk3 Supra. So cars like that will probably be the next hype since they do not have a huge following.
Basically us buyers will be forced to look for jdm scraps that not many people want. Its sad tbh but right now is basically the perfect time to buy the underrated jdm car you want because It'll go up in price inevitably.
It was grand turismo that got me looking at it. And then NFS underground probably for the rest of us. Those who were so so about cars was hooked now. Or who weren't on thier radar suddenly was.
The old 911s are so much more money than the jdm market.
Do a video of the letter and what it says and what you're gonna do...and yes THRASH all the R34s
I'm really sorry about Carmel. I love animals, I have pets (mostly snakes, tho I had dogs and cats and sugar gliders and geckos growing up lol) and it's always super painful losing one. Here's to Carmel, a great kitty I am sure.
Also, I love all the JDM cars, including the R34, maybe some JDM only R35 editions? Or other JDM only special editions in general of otherwise multi-market cars. (Check out the GT-R50. One of the best looking GTRs ever, def of the R35, and it surprisingly was partially US designed, which usually ends up with meh designs like the 2017+ NSX)
Selling a Lamborghini to be able to afford a r34 is wild. A car like that shouldn’t be that expensive. Sure it’s a legendary car but it’s no where near what it used to be. I’ve seen some people buy r34s for 1 million or more which is just ridiculous.
It was only that expensive because it was Show & Display legal. It's kind of odd that he waited so long to unveil it, because "normal" R34 GTRs are going to be hitting the shores in just 4 months...
What is the skateboard in the back??
While you COULD see a spike over the next couple years they Porsche 911 is so romanticized already I doubt it will become a big trend. I think you would see them all over the place if they weren't so expensive to begin with. I would be hype for a French wave to hit the States. Baguette bros in berets banging gears in Puegot 206s.
In the process of k swapping a mini cooper already lol
So youre done with FitmentIndustries or this is just a side hustle?
Me who now can't find E92 M3s and F82 M4s for reasonable prices and is genuinely looking at Maserati Granturismos. Might actually snag one by Halloween
Personally, I'm really happy people are going back into the Italian & German cars and leaving my British cars (I'm a Lotus fanboy) alone so that maybe, one day, I can afford to buy a cool sports car with a supercharged Camry engine.
I feel like the ship already sailed on the Esprit V8 tt's
@@Und34d_R I'm not really interested in the Esprit though. I'm mostly interested in the third gen Exiges.
I’ll be glad to see when Mazda brings back the AWD manual Mazda 3 hatch
Fun euro cars of the 2000s, especially driver-centric cars with swaps to more reliable engines or cars with crappy F1-style automated transmissions that can have manuals swaps.
E46 M3…maybe with a 2JZ
997s of all varieties, maybe pulling out tiptronics for manuals
First gen R8s being made rear drive only
also, JDM Euro cars. like the testarossa, porsche, and japanese stanced teslas might be a thing
Which JDM car after the R34 will be on the bubble? I'm going to guess that a lot of folks might be surprised by how much Evo wagons will go for as its 25 year date grows closer.
It’s like nfs you start with a eh car then a jdm halo car then you get entire exotics then boom F40
Letter from ferrari that I don't want to open lmao that's gonna be a good video
It's legitimately probably easier to move to Japan for a year than buy these cars. Also I think there might be a huge run on Australian vehicles, especially Holdens, Falcons, and all the Utes, shit I know I'm getting myself a Ute lol
Maybe, but they're already sought after here in Australia
Could we get a hoodie with a bigger graphic? Maybe your logo enlarged on the back or chest? I would KILL for a hoodie like that and would have so much time to wear it as I’m in IL
I think since the older hotroders are getting up in age and more and more classics are hitting the market , we might just go full circle and go back to older American muscle
nissan maxima bubble next
Are people still doing the overlander builds? Bunch of people I know in car scene now have overlanders to daily and have their show car seperate
Probably going to be old Mercedes like 190e or the 2 doors from the 80s
Honestly I think it was early ps1 / ps2 games that really pushed the JDM cars without us knowing. Think gran turismo, NFS. Also all those kids have grown up now as it’s 20+ years ago.. 90s jdm is just our generation of the 60s muscle car market
I personally, do not think there is an after, for the r34. It has planted such an imprint in the car community, and there is a very good chance of people just, not browning up.
(also I like the evos better)
My mom owned a silver mk4 supra with a bomex body kit after the 1st fast and furious movie
JZX110s?
What I do is get really drunk and high. Then if I squint super hard my sentra spec v kinda looks like a gtr
Pop Tart is a super cutie!
Euro Subaru Diesels are next.
the different versions of the uk type r Hondas
Waiting for the 07 accord euro r to be available
The wagon version is nice and cheap, but i prefer a Subaru GTB. Honda's from that era were not the fastest, i used to destroy the Fk2 and FN2 with my Renault Megane 2 RS and 3 RS on the Nurb.
As a 20yr Gen Z I feel bad for my generation because 90’s and some early 00’s JDM cars will become beyond unattainable, but I have a feeling once Gen Z become older and has more money where going to seeing R35 GT-R, Mark 5 Supra, 400Z, GR-Corolla, GR86, and FK8/FL5 Civic Type-R go up in value
I'm also waiting to see boomer-era classic cars drop in value as more boomers age out of being able to drive, at which point us Gen Z kids will have a plentiful supply of easy and interesting cars to work on.
@@Thinginator ngl same
The R35 will be a collector car soon. Mark my words...
@@jacobasuncion3132 It's weird to me that parts for classic cars are often quite cheap, but the cars themselves aren't. That's why at the moment I'm really into more obscure overlooked cars. My first car was a '66 Thunderbird, which was cheap because it's not fast, but has the same 390 V8 that was the biggest engine available in Mustangs for a while, and was super fun to drive... until it was rear-ended recently. Aaand I can't find similar condition classic cars in it's price range anymore, which makes me sad. The bubble needs to burst, I wanna play with more cheap classic cars!
As a side-note, it also doesn't help that with the housing market in its current state, it's hard to find space for classic cars even if you can afford them. If I've only got room for one car, it doesn't matter if I can afford a second car if I have to afford a place to put it first. The Thunderbird was reliable enough to daily-drive, which was how I got away with the lack of space before, but I don't know how a different classic would fare in that situation.
Lol Porsches replacing the JDM market sounds wild
Final gen of the galant vr4
Should had done a letter reveal with the Ferrari letter 😅
Probably more of the rarer cars from Europe and Japan. So like lancias, alpha, and then the "other" jdms.
The way I see is: People were broke.
People loved cars but couldn't afford one so they turned to the only thing they could by: Japanese cars.
But once it got trendy, then all the people with mone started spending millions on JDM cars and now broken people are looking for other cheap alternative options once again because they can't afford the cars they once could.
Bonkers if you think that R34s were meant to be the cheap option to Lambos and Ferraris but now they are reaching the same price level.
Also.: 2000 Golfs are amazing cars, sure as hell is my next option
Idk why but I feel like the FRS BRZ GT86 GR86 will increase in value within the next 15-20yrs
….just my opinion but I could be completely wrong
I hope five cylinders get put into “peak” category
Damn evo hasn't been updated since Tokyo drift and still the same price
Omfg my cat was named poptart more than a decade ago. She's still kicking around and very cuddly
