99-01 Pedro had the greatest stuff I've ever seen -- high-90's fastball, All Star-caliber curveball, and the greatest change-up in MLB history, all with significant movement yet pinpoint control. He was unhittable.
I LOVED Randy Johnson, and I got to witness Pedro here in Boston and i can tell you, we hung on every pitch of his. That was a fun time to be a Sox fan
I can’t understand how randy Johnson just changed his stuff that late in his career imagined what would he be if he was a late bloomer because he really only started dominating at the late age of like 35. Just imagine if he had started way earlier.
In 2000, Pedro had a 1.74 ERA that led the American League against hitters who used performance-enhancing drugs. The pitcher with the second-best 3.70 ERA after Pedro was Roger Clemens, who also used steroids. This is just one example of what a great pitcher Pedro was.
Martinez and Johnson on the mound from 1997-2002 was basically a foregone conclusion - you either saw a hit in the first or you'd see nothing for eight innings.
Going to the ballpark on a Pedro Day in Boston was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It could be a non-divisional game in mid-May but the _entire_ city was just electric. Everyone was stoked for the game, seeing how many guys Petey was going to blow away and wondering what we’d get to see that night.
@@SSNESSMaddux was great, the professor was very crafty but look at his post season career. He didn’t create the intimidation/ fear factor than those power pitchers did
I'm a Yankee fan and there was no pitcher better than Pedro at that and this time. And he did all this in the Steroid Era when everyone was hitting 40 HR's or better. Nasty!!!
Yea I remember Pedro Martinez in his prime. He was the only pitcher the Yankees, who were also strong during that time, were always afraid of. One of the dominant pitchers of his time for sure.
I would have gone with the Big Unit not only for his prowess but also his intensity and intimidating figure, but I can’t complain that they chose Pedro.
@@AnalogLanguagePedro was nasty through and through, but he also had finesse, which is why he remained relevant even after losing his 97mph fastball, Randy was just absolute and absurdly nasty.
As a Diamondbacks fan I got to watch Johnson pitch every start and it was so much fun to watch him. I also watched a ton of Pedro games and they were fun as well. We all remember playoff performances but it was still so exciting to just watch them in some random regular season game to see how many guys Randy could strike out with his fastball - slider combination or to watch Pedro masterfully work his fastball-change up combination. At their peaks I think Pedro is better though I would take Randy only due to the fact that Pedro usually missed a few games per season but I loved watching both pitch. Pedro's two seasons in 99 and 2000 was just amazing to watch and peak pitching while also watching a sure thing in Randy's 6 year stretch of dominance. I grew up idolizing Maddux and Doc Gooden but to this day, Pedro and Randy are still my two favorite pitchers.
All good! My personal favorite is Pedro. His mechanics and tempo are so beautiful to watch. His command of off-speed stuff is amazing while his fastballs jump off. A perfect blend of finesse and power.
Randy Johnson was insane. In his prime years I dont think there's ever been a better pitcher. His fastest pitch was 102mph but he is 6'10 so it must of felt like 104-105 mph.
I remember him and Schilling went toe to toe one time. I think Schilling threw 96 pitches, I don't remember how many Brown through and I think the DBacks won something like 2-1 but it was fun watching them both just mow down guys and the game came in at something like under 2 hours because both guys were just nailing their spots and making batters look hopeless.
Even I'm Korean, I'll agree with you as his sinker was best at the time during his best years. He must have cy young at least one time like Brendon Webb.
When i was young i remember watching ramon martinez pitch for the dodgers and thinking he had one of the best arms..as a mets fan, im going with santana for the heat
I never saw Kofax.. But.. I've never seen a pitcher "mow down" batters like Pedro.. Unfortunately, you have to be a little bigger to sustain that speed. He didnt last long as a consequence.. Best pitcher Ive seen in my 45+ years.
Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, and Pedo Martinez are the best pitchers ever. Pick one you can't go wrong. You know why these guys are the GOATS? They pitched in the steroid era and STILL dominated.
Ryan and Gibson no one today or ever will match their tenacity, longevity, and competitiveness. Gibson played for the Harlem Globetrotters and was a Boxing Gold Glove Champion. All Nolan Ryan did was wrestle 1500lbs bulls, take ‘‘em down and brand them. Yeah you guys don’t know tough.
I also thinking Clayton and Zack off speed pitches should be talked about here everyone they mention r retired pitchers once again mlb more in love with old players and not current players
Whoa! Hang on guys. How about the dude who could get you out by throwing just the same pich everything, and you knew it was coming, and still couldn't hit it. Riveras cutter. Maybe the greatest pitch in MLB history
So we’re asking hitters that virtually no one even remembers? Let’s ask actual hitters… maybe step it up to HOF hitters, not some no names on MLb network…

Thats true.
Oversimplification and an too oft repeated narrative, but likely true.
@@adrianselbst6777 Thanks, AI bot
His whip was an ungodly 0.737. the greatest ever for a starting pitcher.
Pedro was undeniable and hated by the Yankees the way Lionel Messi was by Real Madrid...both small aces.

Mariano Rivera: Everybody knew he was going to throw his cutter...but not many were able to hit it.
Kevin Brown is very under rated. It was nice to see him get mentioned. He was a big time pitcher and never wanted to see my team face him.

Ohtani might not be the greatest pitcher in history but he'll go down as the greatest Baseball player of all time, as the Unicorn and the Goat
I mean that's not the point of the video
Someone who does not get mentioned a lot among the greats is Dave Stewart.
Stewart's forkball was disgusting. He made great hitters look stupid.
Johan Santana Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson will forever be my 3 favorite pitchers
Peak Kimbrel was the most confidence I've ever had in a pitcher
Greg Maddux is the beat.
I would have to say maddux. Such a beautiful painter 💯
If the 2022 MVP selection was MLB instead of reporters, the award would have been Shohei Otani.

Randy Pedro and Roger
When healthy . At the second part of his career with st.louis, Chris Carpe ter was really filthy. That slider was nasty
Oh they were very good, but I kean towards Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson.
Orel Hershiser 59 scoreles innings is still the MLB record💪🏻💪🏻👍👍

Pedro Martínez dominio total.
Pedro’s peak was greater. Randy was great for longer.

Pedro Martínez , three nasty pitches was too many for any hitter without knowing what was coming, plus he was very intelligent at pitching.
Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson the most dominat pitchers of their gen!
*Johnson*
Nolan Ryan and Bob Gibson are still the greatest of all time if any of these guys faced prime nolan or Gibson they would have a different opinion.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Jaimie Moyer 😅

Dellin Betances has the best FIP- (56, lower is better) since integration of pitchers with at least 350 IP. Shame about the injuries.
Too old for these guys, but Koufax tipped his pitches while throwing four no-hitters and winning four Cy Young Awards in six years.

They keep mentioning old names but no Greg Maddux?
Madison Bumgarner in the 2014 postseason. Dude was unhittable
