    Drink a LOT of water before bed and make sure you go to the bathroom before retiring (or you'll wake up with excessive pressure in the hatch down below). This is especially important/effective if you have had any alcohol less then 4 or 5 hours before bed. I have severe dry eye problems from other causes but I find that a proper pre-slumber drain, a large couple of glasses of the clear stuff and eye drops on the bedside table can make a very troublesome problem much more endurable.

    Hi there, I have a question about your Ziena Eyewear. I have recently tried the Kai model and like the look. It fits well at the top and the sides, however there is about a 1/4 inch gap at the lower part of the eyecup. I'm wondering whether a gap will still allow the eyecup to maintain its moisture retaining abilities? I know that it's not as effective as a full seal but is a gap still somewhat effective at slowing down tear evaporation?

    I have had dry eyes for years, and use Systane ultra drops all day and night. I have been wearing ski goggles (in Florida!) with polarizing lenses and it makes life outside so much more tolerable despite the double takes from strangers and the messed-up hair. I am very glad to hear about the Zeina moisture goggles with prescriptions, although they are very expensive and the nearest outlet is 50 miles away. Perhaps these problems will soon rectify.

    Regarding humidifiers, I just received my humidifier to help combat dry eye a few days ago, and after reading the manual ( cleaning it out everyday? really?!) I found that they recommend this frequent cleaning so that something called Pink Mold doesn’t grow. After googling this which is actually a bacteria I found that it can cause eye issues itself! People who have my same humidifier say that it is impossible to clean the crevices of this pink mold. What is your take on this and can you recommend a particular humidifier that is best to avoid this pink mold and/or best for cleaning?

    I was diagnosed with EBMD (Epithelial Basement Membrane Dystrophy) and Dry Eye Disease is a secondary condition. I just went through Corneal Epithelial Debridement in my right eye three weeks ago. My vision has gotten so much better in that eye already. My optometrist has never been able to get me close to 20/20 vision because if I blinked, it would completely change everything. I had an amazing doctor that performed the debridement. But one of the best suggestions she gave me was since I run a fan at night was to use gel eye drops and a 3D memory foam sleep mask before and after the procedure. It has really helped. Also, a preservative free eye drop like TheraTears or Refresh Optive Advanced. Refresh Optive is safe for use with contacts which is a bonus. My optometrist has been suggesting plugging my tear ducts as the next step for my dry eyes.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  4 года назад

    I think one thing I didn't know about dry eye is that I read things wrong and say it out loud wrong, especially on the computer, and more specifically reading dates. For example, I might see a date of 2/4/20, and I might read it out loud as April 2nd (I live in the USA). My eye doctor was examining my eyes for glaucoma, and she said that's dry eye.
    I used the preservative free gel drops. They work really well. I also have a humidifier in my office and home.

    Thank you for the updates on dry eye! My dry eye seems to really only bother me in the evening. But it is so bad that I keep eye drops under my pillow because my eyelids actually stick to my eyeballs and will tear my eye. Very painful. So I need to put drops in my eyes to open them. I do use a humidifier but I think that will need to use the eye gel at night. Thanks again doctor!

    Dr., I’m a student pilot and I’m looking for a prescription sunglasses, which color lenses (gray, brown, green, etc) are the optimum for that type of environment (Sunny sky or white/gray overcast days)?

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  4 года назад +1

      Grey Is often ideal for open blue sky. oftentimes a lighter amber/brown color work well on overcast days but some people prefer pink/green/blue for those as well. (When Rayban first came out they were the first to have antireflective which made the lenses green). The important thing for a pilot is to avoid polarized lenses, as theycan interfere with the instruments.

    @Elizabeth-qy3zk 4 года назад +2

    Hi Doctor, Thanks for the information a couple of questions please: 1. Do the moisture chamber eyeglasses require special and frequent cleaning and 2. Do they sit comfortably around the eyes (close enough for those of us with prescription eyewear) and form a seal. Appreciate your feedback!

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  4 года назад +1

      Hey thanks Karen. The Ziena ones I showed in the video are cleaned just like regular glasses, the silicone inserts remove and re-attach with magnets. They are just like regular glasses and sit normally on the face with the inserts gently resting around the eyes. What is nice is that they fit comfortably without causing the lenses to fog up and if they did, you can just loosen them and they clear back up. Plus you can get prescription lenses put into them.

    I suffer from mild to moderate dry eye, I also have very oily skin which I have noticed resides on my eyelids and causes my eyes to burn after a few hours. I have noticed that cleaning out my eyes with an cleaning eye solution such as Ocusoft Lid Scrub Foaming Eyelid Cleanser (17 dollars on amazon) or OCuSOFT Hypochlor Gel Formulation Hypochlorous Acid (22 dollars on amazon) It significantly reduced my need for eyedrops, even though I do this eyelid cleaning 2-3 times a day often. I also take PRN omega fish oil (a little pricy but worth it for me) recommended by my dry eye specialist Dr.

    Hi dr Alan. You have explained it all so clearly. I have sjorgens and R.A. and have very severe dry eyes. I use preservative free liquid drops by day and gel by night. I have now found by using the gel by day in the winter while indoors and the heating is on that it lasts longer and feels more soothing than liquid drops. But I never considered that the wind could reduce the tears from my eyes. So I will be mindful of that when im outside. Thanks for educating me keep up the great work. Teresa

      Hi there. I know this is an old post but I have optic nerve atrophy and produce no tears. At night I use eye gel & liquid drops during the day. In the UK it's cold 11 months of the year. I struggle with severe dry itchy, burning, watery eyes all throughout winter : more than during warmer days. I also have red eyes which is the norm for me. Xx

  • @advancedcentreforeyes4809

    The air is very dry in the winter, which makes it hard for your eyes to produce tears. An easy way to combat this is to use rewetting eye drops when you feel your eyes getting dry. You can purchase drops for an affordable price at your local convenience store or speak with your eye doctor about getting prescription drops if the dryness is very painful or persistent.

    Tried to use an humidifier at night. When i wake up, the room is foggy, the sheets and furnitures are all wet, but makes no difference on my eyes at all.
    As much as i would like to, clearly, humidifiers does'nt work for me.

    Hi, thanks alot for your informative channel. I have a question which has made me worried for a while , I wear glasses and each of my eyes number is approximately 5 (myopia )and about 1( astigmatism). I always thought that it can be fixed by operation till someone told me that didn't you know it decreases the eyesight accuracy and causes other problems, you know I'm first year medical student and I have heard that the procedure will limit your residency choices(such as specific fields of surgery) as it causes the decrease in eyesight acuracy
    I just wanted to know that are these sentences true or not

      No, there are multiple surgical procedures for refractive surgery. LASIK and PRK are the most common. Usually results in excellent vision. But as you know, there are risks with every operation. Best to consult with your local eye care specialist regarding what is best for you and your eyes. Wish you the best through med school!
