    Glad we still have a place to get water! The pump shuts off as soon as you hit the button, but whatever is left in the pipe still comes out. I have become a master of getting it right to the top without any spill! lol.

    So many people have trouble understanding that limited time, funds and labour make so much difference - and forget that you also have to do the daily living stuff! Little things like eating, washing, laundry, schooling, and sleeping! I think what you are achieving is awesome.

    Half of our small house's roof goes into the septic system, drain field, and then the trees et al which have developed an ecosystem utilizing this water for the last 30-40 years so we left that side of the house alone. We began our water col,eating system with a blue, plastic barrel, screen, and diverted deck cover down spout; when we replaced the deck cover we added gutters due to drip line trenches and getting on the deck without a shower. The first rain was an usual gusher and had us putting in an on the ground diverter system in the rain for the over flow. It also brought the addition of a small, electrical pump, garden hose, and one of those p,attic tubs with metal frames. When we were outside in the rain turning the pump on about every 1.25 hours in the rain, we added a 55 ga.llon barrel to the down spout on that side of the house and ultimately ended up with a float style sump pump in a 5 gallon bucket buried in the ground; oh, and an over flow diverted system for our big water storage container. We are now at about 1000 gallons of connected totes with over flow diversion. We like the totes because we can move them manually when empty. Next up on the progression list is to see how it all works in the winter althiugh we dint typically get too much fkr freezing weather or snow.

    just one suggestion from a guy here in manitoba canada,that’s burned lots of wood.
    Next year when you stack wood in the shelter logic,stack length wise not across.leave a walkway in middle.
    This way you will never have old wood being buried year to year.
    If it works with with you in that area of Idaho stack by species,Cedar one side Pine/Spruce the other.
    Just a suggestion from a issue I had for years till I saw a old timer stack wood.
    Good luck on getting rest of roof up,your wife is a real trooper!! plus your children

    If you built a small ramp to reverse the trailer up on so the bottom of the IBC is above the opening in the ground tank, you can use a simple 2" pipe and valve directly from the IBC into the ground tank. No need for siphons or pumps!

    Just remember when emptying a container like that you either need to loosen the main lid or put a lid on with a one way valve on the big red cap that'll let air out. If you don't it'll implode and crush your tank.

    There is no need to pump water from the 350 gallon tank. You just connect a line to the bottom of the portable tank and then ensure the other end of the line is hanging to about ground level in the in ground tank the open the valve. There is enough head pressure to get the water flowing and when it gets low the water will siphon the rest of the water from the portable tank

    We have to buy water like this in Missouri. My girlfriend drove under it and washed her car with us in it! It was like being under a waterfall, and caused her dooes and windows to leak! It isn't as fun as it sounds! Depending on buying water like that is a big pain and the dark causes mold inside you may want a UV light to prevent that bacteria from developing.💜

  • @rodneyjohnson7327
    @rodneyjohnson7327 4 года назад

    Like your video. Something I noticed. Maybe the reason the weld broke on the trailer is because water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon. At 350 gallons you have almost 3000 pounds of water on that trailer. I don't know the load capacity and towing limits of your trailer, but my guess is your over its limits. Especially when the weight is not spread out over the whole trailer but concentrated right over the axle. Just a thought to help you out.

  • @curtd9612
    @curtd9612 4 года назад

    I hauled water like that too but only about 100 gallons at a time. A hundred gallons weighs 800 pounds and I kinda figured that was the limit of my trailer.
    The tote has a drain valve at the bottom. You can get the necessary parts to adapt the to garden hose thread and hook up your pump there. This will keep the hose out of the water in case you are using this for potable water.
    I hammered down a sandpoint well as soon as I could afford it. May be you could do the same?

      @@jeroenvwtiguan5481 but paying (for the dirt or rock or wood, the backo, etc) to build a ramp strong to support more than +1.3 tons (that is only for the tote full of water, trailer and truck not included) that will need to be removed and the end is not? Not only that but the ramp can't have a steep incline because the trailer will dig itself on the hitch on the back of the truck but he need to raise the tote at least 3 feets so that it can be above the black water tank... So i think maybe at least 15 feets for the slope and a the end of that he need a flat part about the length of the trailer since the tote is near the hitch of the truck so you need to account for that... Oh he still need free space in front of the ramp so that he can be able to back up on the ramp...

    If that new water source is closer to home then I would say it worth every bit $3.50 (I think that is what y'all paid) just for the convenience alone. Also, you save money on the gas it would cost if y'all were to make a special trip just for the water. Great find!
    That weld looked to me like a tack weld that somebody forgot to finish welding. Good idea to take a look at the other side and fix the weld there while you're at it. That's just a shame that happened. Glad y'all can fix it yourselves though. Say a prayer for anyone else who may have bought a trailer made by the same folks that they do not have to deal with the same issue and for their safety.
    And, Sarah, my dear, first day with new feet? 🤣 I heard Safety Sally hollering at you to watch where you're going in the background, but not until after you tripped and nearly impaled yourself on rusty nails (I know they weren't there or rusty. Dramatic effect. 😉). Watch yourself. She might have it out for you. LOLOLOL Nice save though! Thank you for that chuckle.

    If the transfer tank is higher than the storage tank, siphoning water would not be that difficult and likely an easier option overall. Just put siphoning hose into the transfer tank and pump water into the siphoning hose from the siphon hose exit point into the transfer tank (to fill the hose). Once siphon hose is full of water move the hose to the storage tank - will siphon very quickly without the need for a pump - although you will need a water source and a way to fill the hose initially.

    When you get the solar panels in their permanent installation, do you intend to house the batteries somewhere in the house? I used to work at a propane plant and did many inspections on customers homes. One part of the inspection is a CO test. On off grid homes that have batteries in the house somewhere. My CO detector would go off to , at times. 40 ppm. It happens that the brand of CO detector that I used also detected the Hydrogen produced as the batteries were getting charged. I don't know If living in an area with Hydrogen in the are is dangerous or unhealthy, but charging batteries produce Hydrogen.

      Thanks. I’m glad you found us. We do homeschool our kids but Sarah our daughter is a senior in high school and also taking a dual enrollment college class at the community college in town.

    Do you sanitize your? I would be nervous that everyone touches that fill hose and thin you're putting into the tank. I would hold the fill tube above my container so the hose isn't touching my portable water.

    put the water tank in the ground more, the siphon in the water with a large hose and it would stay warmer.

    Take the pump back you need a 2000 gallon per hour submersible pump you can get them online for about 40 bucks and they would drain the tank way faster.

    From Safety Sally's sister. Don't know if you drink the water or not but would be a good idea not to put the delivery hose into the tote, never know what grubby hands or gloves last man handled the outside of that hose. Would also hope it wasn't used to top off some farmer's pesticide sprayer tank.

    Why don't you get some 3" flex pipe and run it from the trailer tank to your burried water tank and let gravity do the work.
