Another great video, thank you. I once was a commercial fisherman in Maine on the FV Northern Voyager. The boat was based out of Portland Maine for a few years. Captain Dave was a cousin of Dan Haggerty. He had family photos he shared with me way back in the day prior to gray hair.

WOW ! What a white beautiful day, snow ball fight from the roof, tucks running on a big snow ball, I wish I had snow it 37f hear in the north of Mississippi
Maybe you can get a 2x4 covered with that rubber flashing material or old towels and use it to get snow off of your panels. Possibly put a push handle on it for a narrower tool or span it with ropes on each end to pull it across.
Hey neighbor, The RH will be dropping now with winter here & with the stove for heat, it will get really dry in the house! You will know it's bad when you are shocking each other ....lol I use a few old bread pans from thrift stores to keep water on top of the stove to help.
You should build a quick set of stairs to get into the house at the slider - I'm sure you have plenty of scrap wood laying around to do that. Also, I would put on the snow cleats for your roof to keep the snow from sliding off and hitting someone. If you get a large snow dump, and someone walks out the door they are gonna get smacked pretty hard.
You are really good on your videos you could have your own HGTV home improvement show or do commercials lol..my daughter in law is 24 and she doesn't know any of the show's and movies I talk about like the waltons or little house on the prairie I'm like have you been living under a rock..lol
I think roof heating cable will help. You'll probably end up with icy perimeter which can work to your advantage. Like an ice barrier that can block wind and help insulate.
@@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving It ranges from like 5w, 7w, 10w, etc per foot. Just double check and make sure it's for de-icing roof because some of the heat cords are meant for water filled pipes. Check Home Depot for an idea and then google other brands for comparison.
There's also heat cable for under floor tiles too. You can get a mat where it has grooves for the cable and then you throw subflooring over it. Tons of ways. All cords go by (x)w per foot.
Awe! Tux loves the snow! I had a lab for many years. She was so funny when it was snowing. You'd let her out for doggy time and she would obsessively chase the snowflakes. LOL Snowballs were her favorite though. It was so funny when she was young cuz she would sniff and dig around in the snow for a long time trying to find that stinkin' snowball. Makes me miss her! I totally agree. Use what you got. Although, I would probably wrap an old towel around the rake in hopes to reduce scratches, but then that risks micro scratches from the towel? So, not sure...???
@@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving - Piece of unsolicited advice from someone with Alaska experience. Dig tunnels/ditches for Tux. I do not understand using rake for solar I don't care how careful you seem to not like comments that disagree with your attitude. I understand you must be strong willed to accomplish what you are doing
Just yesterday I got my solar setup enough to test but after the sun went down, I was sooo excited to test them. Well today it's snowing and not a bit of sun......... why.
Have you ever thought about using a car alternator run by a DC motor to produce power instead of solar panels. Solar panels are so much work keeping them clean year round and they only work when the sun is shining.
If your latitude is between 25° and 50°, then the best tilt angles are: For summer, take the latitude, multiply by 0.92, and subtract 24.3 degrees. For spring and autumn, take the latitude, multiply by 0.98, and subtract 2.3 degrees. For winter, take the latitude, multiply by 0.89, and add 24 degrees. For us, that would be 66.72°
