House is looking good! Really like the color of the metal roof! My husband was a brick mason from 1973 to 2020. He built our brick ranch himself...in 1984. It took him 3 years because he was working full time, also. He told me to tell you that you should NEVER hook up a tie-off to the bumper of a car. It is the number ONE ACCIDENT that causes DEATH in construction!!...because someone else can take off in the car, without realizing it is tied to you.
You got the right attitude I have built my own house and you got to be happy with any progress there is no schedule but you stay busy and don't give up you will get there
Martin, you are doing real well on all your roofing decisions so far. If you would like some advice from an old contractor, try clamping a board under and over your roofing when cutting, it gives the roofing support as well as a place for the base of your saw to ride on so you don't scratch your roofing. Also, I would strongly recommend that you put all the screws into a panel before adding your next panel. These panels get crazy slippery when wet or with even a skiff of snow, you don't really want to have to keep walking across them. Another trick you can do is to pre-drill all of your holes while the panels are on the ground, you can drill through several panels at once. It also looks very professional to have all your screws line up on the roof. I'm glad you put gloves & glasses on, the metal flying off that blade is hot and will burn your skin. I love watching the progress your family has made. I'm praying for good weather for you to finish that roof.
Such a role model you all are. What a giant task you're all doing but in that calm and relaxed manner. No frustrating laments but to go on about your business in a pleasant manner and not wrong either on the job done. Truly exemplar.
Nice shout out to Ryobi. I can feel the force Obi Wan Ryobi! Congratulations to you all. The saying "It's nice to have a roof over your head" now pertains to you. May God bless you one and all.
I know nothing about off grid, but love to see the progress you and your family doing! Always be careful and stay safe! Cannot wait to see how it will ends up! Must be so rewarding and satisfying.
Metal sheeting for roofing is a good idea,, if they are galvanised,, Snow doesn't usually stick to them,, and if put on properly will out last the house... Good video
Look like drop edge and steel to cover the sides of the front and back of the house. Skill saw with the blade backwards or grinder. Safety glasses and face shield would be required. Looks good at what you installed!
I hope you put metal screws on the lap joints. Normally you need to put a sealer on the joints. But maybe you don’t need to with the pitch of the roof that you have.
If your in N.Idaho, I would get some kind of Insulation Material for your water piping in the crawl space because it's really going to get cold down there in Crawl Space during the winter.
Whew I asked is that the drip edge and yes I was correct LOL I use to manage a metal roofing company in Seattle for years. Call some of your church buddy's or other friends to help maybe??? DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREWS FOR THE ROOFING. Otherwise you will have a dimple look in your metal and that's not a good thing. ONLY wear "TENNIS SHOES" on metal roofing anything else will be too slippery and possibly scratch your panels. The last thing to go on will be your ridge cap OR you can install it as you go when you have TEN FEET of paneling it would be good to lay that sections ridge cap at that time. So proud of you Mr. Johnson for all that you and your family have undertaken. God's blessings.
are you putting gutters to collect rain water --- We do here n Guyana, and are spearing lots of money !!! don't forget the filter before the tank !!! Also I saw no filter from the tank o the house, you should put a double one just before the suppressor !!!
Safety, safety, safety, so much for lip service. DO NOT tie that blade guard back. It is there for a good reason. If it gets in the way you can hold it back with the tab on the back of the guard while you get the cut started, but then release it as soon as you the guard no longer interferes with getting the cut started.
Did the metal supplier include the, Horizontal Closure Strips, with the roofing? I didn't see you putting any down on either end. you want air moving around, but you don't want bugs under there. You are putting the screws on the flat surface, is the where this manufacturer said to place them? I know warranty are different between manufacturers with this placements. I couldn't see it from camera angle, did you have flash on the sides of the eves before you started?
How you get the roof done before winter or to much snow. My wife and I Just got our roofs done before the snow, house n barn. From Leamington Ontario Canada.
A metal roof is a great investment, The metal roof on my house is about 40 years old and my ONLY complaint is it gets noisy during a hail storm. Really, how often does it hail?
Make SURE you remove ALL the protective plastic as soon as you can...if you let it sit too long you will hate your life trying to take it off 1/8" at a time...ask me how I know...LOL
First fine Job ! But working with metal I found you should wear leather gloves to avoid cuts (I Got the scars to prove it !) What really scared me is tying the safety rope to the car without in-oping the engine ! You could of pulled the coil wire ! I know you say I got the keys but you know "Murphy's Law" what ever can't happen could happen )
Hello pak Martin N Bu Jule's.... How was both of you? I hope you have a great day, guys.... When you all will return back home in indonesia?? I know, indonesia like your second family home... cause i seen you all really2 kind with indonesian people... because that, if you and fam, will go to the country, don't you say just for visit, or will vacation... BUT, SAY TO EVERYONE,, "GUYS WE WILL RETURN BACK HOME IN INDONESIA... THERE WE HAVE SECOND BIG FAM" okay PAK MARTIN.... GREETINGFULL FOR GRENDMA N GRENDPA... God Bless you all , guys.....
I sure wish y’all were in or near Athens, Texas. I’d be there in a heartbeat to help-out. Speaking of snow, it snowed here about 8 years ago. Keep up the good work.
And before anyone mentions it... You did GOOD to stop when you did. Climbing around up there doing that, in dry weather is bad enough. Continuing to do so once the snow or rain starts falling, is just ASKING for an accident.
Glad you never fell. A 400 pound rope is nowhere near enough load limit for a fall. Remember the force is not just your weight, but your weight moving at a rapidly increasing velocity.
I know this is like shutting the barn door after the horses are out.... but Marty, you really need to learn the bowline knot. Would save time and rope (line) in a lot of ways.
Very nice choice of color. We are using Black R panel and accents on our shop and House up there with Gray body color. Metal roofs that are not standing seam require a maintenance plan. Every couple of years somebody will get to tighten down the Exposed screws that work their way up due to expansion/contraction. Those neoprene gaskets will need to be replaced in 5-7 years. Since there are only 2 sizes of roofing screws as you know those 1/4" can only be replaced with the 5/16 bigger ones so having a permanent Anchor point to hang off that "Fun" pitch will be nice too. PrePlan your strategy with getting up to clean out that Wood stove flue in snow cover might be a thought too. Our Team put up the Metal roof for a Fort Hood Soldiers Extreme Home Makeover and some of the volunteers showed up in their "Work Boots" not knowing that tennis shoes are the rule on metal roofs, so they got to stay on the ground. I'm not a Treky, but I love how your Faith leads to "go where no (Johnson) has gone before! Well done.
I once saw a video on Facebook the safety rope was attached to the car and someone unknowingly drove of with car and the guy on the roof, so he was ground bound
I felt immediate relief when I saw the title. So glad to see the roofing going on! It worried me when started to cut the metal without gloves. Thank goodness you put them on. That stuff is like a razor blade once cut. Were y’all able to complete the roof before the snows hit hard?
I get that life has different priorities and projects at any given time, but whether it's an outhouse, cabin or palace, once you start a roofing project YOU DO NOT STOP until it is finished. Period, case closed end of discussion.
On the hand snips you use the yellow not the red handle. Red and the green are for left and right cuts.... the yellow is for straight. Using the red hand you it will fight you all the way.... On a scrap piece score with blade knife and bend it back and forth.... it should snap on the line....
Looks so great Marty & Jules !! You're doing such a great job, especially this bit on your own. While you freeze over the next week or so, think of me pretty much melting into the floor . 😂... it's 33 degrees right now.. at 3.40 in the arv. Praying it cools down for the night at least.. and then it's predicted to be 36 for the next few days. Arrgghh !! We'll all survive though, I'm sure. 😀

Maybe they will send us a little something. I doubt it though.
Well done to you and your mrs getting the roof done
Consider dimpling using an awl multiple sheets so that your field fasteners form a straight line.
For people how have never put a roof on you have done a great job
This was great! Gosh I really like watching you guys work together.

Well done you!!! Half a roof is far better than no roof Keep it up and God bless
Keeping nervous Nellie, and safety Sally, happy...
You inspire me. You've got the coolest ideas/builds ever! Keep up the great work.
Great job guys. Almost all sealed in for the winter. Have fun up there and stay warm. :)
Your roof has started looking great

You guys are doing a great job with the roof! I love the color you chose it looks perfect ! You will be settling in before you know it 🤗
Congrats! We are putting the last of Our metal roof up this week too.
Great video!
turn the iron over when you cut it with the power saw so you don't scratch the black iron so it does not have spot to rust in the future
I hope you put metal screws on the lap joints. Normally you need to put a sealer on the joints. But maybe you don’t need to with the pitch of the roof that you have.
Pengen lihat hasil rumah keluarga Sarah... hebat sekali bisa bikin rumah tanpa ada tukang ahli luarrr bisa hebat
If your in N.Idaho, I would get some kind of Insulation Material for your water piping in the crawl space because it's really going to get cold down there in Crawl Space during the winter.
Sounds crazy but a long straight cut like that can be made with a utility knife. Score it then bend it a few times.👍
More than awesome!
I’m so excited to be getting metal on our roof! 😃
You guys are doing a great job!
I am happy for you.. it has to be a great feeling... be safe out there and looking forward to the next video..
I’ll put my metal in ur roof
Trusses, sheeting, insulation, wood stove, plumbing, windows & doors and now roofing tin. Now comes the white stuff that will stick.

Looks really good! No grinders and slit disks in Idaho? 😂
..looks great ,good vid..
buy shears that go on your drill

Wow Argentina! I proposed to Julie there in front of the Pink House.

It is on there. It didn’t make it in the video for some reason.
It looks like you're not using Corrugated Foam Closures under the ridge cap or at the lower end of the roof panel. Doesn't it call for them?
It is on there. It didn’t make it in the video for some reason.
How you get the roof done before winter or to much snow. My wife and I Just got our roofs done before the snow, house n barn. From Leamington Ontario Canada.
👍👍
I'm surprised you didn't pre drill your roof panels while they were still stacked prior to install, that way all your screws are in a straight line .
That works only if your panels all line up.
A metal roof is a great investment, The metal roof on my house is about 40 years old and my ONLY complaint is it gets noisy during a hail storm. Really, how often does it hail?
I like the sound of rain on a tin roof.
To deal with that ice on the car windows... 1 dollar squeeze bottle, like made for ketchup. (From walmart) 80 cent bottle of isopropyl alcohol.
What about you water well? We are curious!
It looks like they are busy elsewhere! Did you notice?
The water well is why we started watching it was awesome and we were enjoying his troubles and having fun doing it with the rest of his family.
Well based on their priorities on the roof and martians opening shots of ice on the truck, maybe spring time/well projects?
Awesome thank you so much. Your family has done such an amazing job. May God continue to bless you 🙏
hey Marty just one thought....i think you put your drip edge on backwards the short side goes on the face not the roof....sorry brotha
Well it can only go one way because there is an extra lip on it. It is right.
I hope you read the comments .....?
Why does Jack Frost always draw bracken? But I suppose with fronds like that, who needs anemones?
Right.
Que paso con el icono de traducción, mi ingles no es muy bueno, gracias.

You should've predrilled your holes in your roofing panels

I would go for a ride 🤕
Good Job guy's!👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏💖💖💯💯💯🐸🐸🐸🐸🎄🎄🎄🎄
Great progress. Do you not need strapping under the metal? Cheers.
No we don’t.
Great job considering you’re not a roofer or sheet metal worker ! 🇬🇧🇬🇧
And before anyone mentions it... You did GOOD to stop when you did. Climbing around up there doing that, in dry weather is bad enough. Continuing to do so once the snow or rain starts falling, is just ASKING for an accident.
To cut your metal roofing I would suggest a SHEET METAL NIBBLER CUTTER, MODEL: YT-160A, this tool cuts sheet metal like butter.
Glad you never fell. A 400 pound rope is nowhere near enough load limit for a fall. Remember the force is not just your weight, but your weight moving at a rapidly increasing velocity.
Was the first offcut not suitable for the dormer piece?
Looks like you have no clue of what your doing. For me I would like at least a 6" Overlap For Joining pieces Under a ridge flashing
with that 400lb rope, make two anchor points. if you fall, you're going to put more than 400lb on that single point.
I know this is like shutting the barn door after the horses are out.... but Marty, you really need to learn the bowline knot. Would save time and rope (line) in a lot of ways.
It's a Gable end not a Dormer ... A Dormer is specific a extension off the main roof
