WTF Happened to Arnold Schwarzenegger?

  • First things first - we love Arnold Schwarzenegger. For pretty much all of us here at the site, Arnie was our hero growing up, and while his hardcore action movie days may be behind him, we still love the guy. His is one of the great American success stories, where an immigrant from Austria could become a champion businessman and weightlifter, and perhaps the biggest movie star in the world (for a time) and then, eventually, even the governor of California!
In this episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity, we chart Arnie’s wild ride, from his early days in Pumping Iron to his breakthrough in Conan the Barbarian and his eventual career-defining role as the T-800 in The Terminator. We reflect on how Twins somewhat changed the public perception of him, resulting in a much nicer version of the T-800 in the landmark James Cameron sequel, Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Plus, we examine other classics like Commando, Total Recall, True Lies, and many more. We also dig into his political career and attempted return to action movies once his term as Governor of California ended. For whatever reason, Arnie seemingly could not recapture the zeitgeist after a detour into politics. However, he remains a legend, even when he’s just chilling in his California compound with his donkeys, Whiskey and Lulu. We love Arnold, and this episode of WTF Happened to This Celebrity, written (with Mathew Plale), narrated and edited by Taylor James Johnson, is our affectionate tribute. What’s your favourite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie? Let us know in the comments.
Just for fun, here’s a quick Top 5:
    1. Terminator 2: Judgement Day
    2. Total Recall
    3. The Terminator
    4. True Lies
    5. Predator

One of the greatest moments of recognition of Arnold's status of iconic action star is his cameo in the 2003 film "The Rundown" starring (then credited as) "The Rock." In a moment of "passing the torch" so to speak during the opening scene of the film, as The Rock walks into a large private party he encounters Arnold who is leaving the party. Arnie casually telling The Rock, "Have fun."

There will never be another person like him. He defined that action star in the 80's and 90's. I still love Conan the Barbarian. Imagine how much better that movie could have been made in today's CGI era with Arnold when he was younger like in the first movie. He set the standard for action movies and everyone else just followed him. I miss those days back in the 1980's and 1990's. Hollywood does not have stars like him anymore. Thanks for all the memories, Arnold you really defined an era that sadly has passed us by, but it was great to grow up in and watch. Today's kids growing up I feel the sorriest for because they will never experience that same era as many of us did.

Every time a film showing him comes on TV, I was instantly hooked, I was his fan from when I was 8 years old,
this man made my childhood awesome
PS: It was actually Arnold who was eger to play the villain in the first Terminator, he didn't wanted to play the hero because he thought the Robot was way cooler and gets to kill people, James was already fired from a B garde movie called Phitanna 2, so he didn't wanted to lose this job and accepted Arnold's request to cast him as the villain and also because at that time Arnold already became famous for his Conan movie, so his opinion became very heavy,

It wasn't really "an American dream come true" per say, it was more-so the case of one achievement snowballing into another, as a result of a societal fascination of muscles and the cultural knack of overlooking everything due to an overall established popularity of a well known face. But the muscles, yes, he worked hard for those.
