Joined 1952 School of Music was in Deal in those days and had a boys wing. The Boys band was a good as anything in the UK and we used to play at places like White City stadium and the schools soccer final at Wembly Stadium. we transferred into the mens section when we were 17 and a half.

I have had the privilege of seeing the massed bands of the Guards, of the Highland Division, and of the Royal Marines over the years. As an ex-army man I have to admit that the Marines were absolutely superb. Well done, The Royals!

Had the pleasure many years ago in my time In the Royal Naval Reserve parading in George square Glasgow Remembrance Sunday. Marching behind the marines band to and from blythswood square. Very professional and still get hairs stand up on back of neck when I hear the marine band playing.

Some of the musicians are wearing the Prince of Wales cap badge (including the POW Plumes) that signifies they are joining the Band of HM Royal Marines, Commando Training Centre ..... this cap badge was awarded to the Plymouth Divisional Band in 1920 by the then Prince of Wales for their outstanding success accompanying him during his tour of Australasia and the Pacific Islands.

The band you hear in this is video is made up of musicians and buglers still in training at the Royal Marines School of Music. They’re mostly aged between 17-19, some only on instruments they’ve been playing for 12 months, and will join a professional Royal Marines Band on completion of their time here.

@@TheBandsofHMRoyalMarines Ahh, that explains it, thank you! If they only play their instruments for a year in some cases, they’re doing their job pretty well.
