I feel like folks are judging OU on emotion, without really thinking through the logic of it. When you hear them explain their analysis, there is a lot of shortcutting, that doesn't actually make sense, when you get in to specifics.
As an example, the O-line is all brand new, and that's a valid concern. But they take it a step further, and make the leap that a typical OU line, like the one we had last year, could not stand up to an SEC defense. But nobody has been able to shut down our offense, since Nick Saban at LSU. Even in games where we got completely crushed, like Joe Burrow's LSU, our offense still lit them up too. So it's lazy to say that an OU offense can't score in the SEC. We have a lot of data, and it really hasn't proven to be true, even against the best SEC teams, that were playing in playoff games, or New Years 6 games.
Everything they say about the history of our defense being trash for a decade, is spot on. Nothing lazy there. Just the truth. Nothing wrong with saying this defense is young and has to prove they are different. But then they make the further leap that OU CAN'T have a good defense, and we gained nothing from bringing in the most respected D-Coord in college football, to be our HC. They ignore how dramatically different this defensive roster looks, on paper, and assume it will be the same results as the ones we had in the past, that were not ranked this high. They can't all be busts. Our coach didn't forget how to coach defense.
So in short, lazy analysts are expecting a step back on offense, based on no data, and no improvement in the defense, despite better coaching and better players. A step up in competition can't explain away all that flawed logic.
It doesn't take a genius analyst to understand that a first year starting QB who had a rough outing in his only start at a bowl game, and the fact that the original OC is gone to come to the conclusion that our Offense will likely be lacking this year.
Some of the expectations out here are crazy.
You nailed it. Its why the computers love OU so much. There’s more depth than ever at every position and OU’s high end is arguably the best in football. Lazy analysis by the usual suspects (Klatt, Cowherd, anybody related to Texas and Mizzou) leads to a false narrative while the computers and guys like Josh Pate all say the opposite. I think this team is gonna shock college football in 2024
Defense looked great last year. Everyone schemed us up crazy and max protect 80% of the season so numbers don’t reflect how good they were. With complementary football last year they have a top 30 defense and 2024 should be top 15 if they put it together. I like 10-2, 9-3 worse case.
Good point. Like u said, with complimentary football in the games we lost (including barely beating UCF), OUr D did its job to win. The offense dropped the ball with TOs and not being able to sustain drives, which left the defense on the field for too many snaps. The offense needs to help out the defense this year.
Billy Bowman should have Won the Thorpe, 6 Interceptions, including 3 pick 6's one was 100 yard pick 6
Jackson Arnold and offensive line are the major factors to OU's success this year .
This is my only concern.
Did we get a new kicker?
@@snuffedtorch3683we got a couple new kickers
@@snuffedtorch3683 that will end up winning or losing us a couple of games!
@@AllenWoody-kj7sc A lot of people talk about kicker, but I haven't seen anyone talk about punter.. I thought our punting is what was atrocious.
Let me see a good defense. Then, we can talk.
Folks forget that this Defense is returning a lot of guys from last season who had multiple goal line stands, multiple games with multiple forced turnovers, sacks and more! Defense wins championships and with BV having that championship winning defensive background, Sooners look like a squad that's gonna surprise a lot of folks come November and possibly Jan25 with a lil SoonerMagic.
That defense also finished #77 in the country in total defense
Multiple crossing routes giving up for BIG plays to keep opponents drive alive
I agree with you Jay. I think you are spot on
@UNFAIR SPORTS I think you nailed it! Great video.
REMEMBER THIS IS ON PAPER 📝 Must transfer it to the field!!!
You're correct. Talk is cheap. Always has been. Act like and become champions.
Crazy to think OU might be decent defensively this year. It’s always been a race to 30 or 50 to beat us but it’ll be interesting to see our team leaning more so on their defensive stops than a shoot out. Totally different brand of football.
I'm curious if Vegas has bumped up OUr Sooners win total prediction. Great show. Very informative. Thanks
I love the Sooners. They are my squad for sure. While I am excited for the move to the SEC, I do expect an adjustment period. That said, my expectations for this coming year are very optimistic. I believe in what Coach Venables and his guys doing. #Boomer
It shouldn't surprise anyone that ESPN suddenly upgrades the Sooners. OU joins the SEC in a few days, and ESPN is the SEC's top marketing agent.😎
I'm excited we will show them boys what it is about them Sooners
Jay you are not right or wrong, you are reporting ESPN's numbers and evaluation. I said, Oklahoma has its best accumulation of elite talent since the Barry Switzer era. I was told I was being silly and cuckoo for cocoa puffs. I simply took the numbers from Rivals, ESPN, On 3, and I am drawing a blank on the other site but you add them up and divide by 4. You will find out about Oklahoma's talent ranking. I understand Oklahoma's offense line does not have experience but highly rated talent coming out of high school. Barring injuries Oklahoma will be fine but we are deep in the two deep. It is a matter of conditioning, discipline, and physicality.
Spot on! 🤝
Spot on J
We can’t have it both ways when it doesn’t favor us we say it doesn’t matter, but then when it favors us, we say it does matter
I know our offense is a little weaker in WR and RB and Line but don't you think we can do a little Belldozer with Jackson on short yardage as well as him taking off for long runs?
Finally, a little respect
I think you got Ole Miss to low. JMO
My brother I love your content and I love that you keep us humbled but I DO see Oklahoma winning the Natty this year. Idc about any of the Georgia hype, Texas hype, Oregon hype etc etc. I only drink the crimson and cream Kool aid and we got some damn game Kool aid for sale going into this year. I also told my dad when BV took over that our first year will be rough. 2nd year will look like Oklahoma and 3rd year will be a Natty do I'm standing by that prediction still to this day. No one is gonna be able to run over our Defense and Jackson has so many weapons at his disposal that I don't see anyone stopping our offense either. It's Natty season.
Hey! You know i don’t hate on the optimism, im just not there yet personally. Please keep that up cause I’ll eventually get there and will up my cup too!
@UNFAIRSPORTS I understand wanting to see it on the field. I just know it's gonna be there already. Keep up the great work though for our benefit 😆
Heck’s yeah! Inject that hopium in my VEINS! 😆😆
SOONER!
It's all on JA. How far he wants to go?!
I would say it’s mostly on the OLine. How great they are. If they are poopoo then the team will be poopoo.
@@lanegilstrap2456 Yes, you are right, but the QB has to have the it factor.
My biggest concern is our special teams. Can’t miss those FGs and need to be able to pen them deep with punts.
All of those numbers they have for OU on that first chart look very close to Tennessee.
Got a feeling that's going to be a competitive game, personally. Hope we win either way.
Maannnn. BOOMER SOONER will be in Atlanta year one....BOOMER!!!!
Why do you think so ? Are you saying that because of your love for the program , or from a personnel standpoint?
@@wordnerd2005 : From a Stand point that we have the players, depth and coaching to get it done. Boomer Sooner has a chance to prove what Bob Stoops has been saying for years. The sec is overrated and top heavy. Now The Sooners don't have to wait until bowl season to get their hands on them. We have new back yards to plant flags in....BOOMER!
@@marshalljankins4526From a personnel standpoint I see OU 4-4 conference mark. Top 5 conference defense. O line and new QB will be a weakness. Still believe this team ends up in top 25.
@@wordnerd2005 : HAHAHAHA. wishful thinking.
@@wordnerd2005 : Wishful thinking lolol.
They gotta get Norte Dame in a conference. They always have a bs schedule
Ole Miss is criminally underrated from an OU fan
Damn why Oregon getting that live?
I have saying this all off season 🤦🏻♀️ it’s coaching, conditioning, injuries, playing as team, crowds and the Sooner Magic
Boomer!!!
I’m extremely concerned about the O-Line!!!!
i want the defense to lead the team. but, we will have to do more on offense. now it doesnt need to be 60 points a game but, it does need to be an offense that can run the ball when they need to. we have all seen what happens to a defense when an offense can move the chains on the ground. they will just grind a defense into dust.
SEC has 6 schools in the top 10.
BOOMER!
Sooner..
I still think putting UofO at no. 2 is crazy.
never fool with AI the AI will put you to shame..
OU will have a good year. Not a great year. 8-4, maybe 9-3. Good luck Sooners.
Office Wednesday games wins championships
I think JA play against az with all the drops players we had for that game speaks volumes about his ability. Who can pass for 361 with a make shift o line in his first full start? Did he throw interceptions? Yes but damn who can do that? He learned a lot. Don’t expect 4 every game. WR are better, defense is way better, QB will be better, o line will be better. Will we win a natty? Only if the defense scores 2 times a game. Im sick of texas and sec podcasters trolling our fan base for clicks. Let them troll and do it on the field.
It doesn't matter the fan base, how good your team is or isn't. A bunch of young athletes will spend about 40 hours per year playing a game. Yet America will spend billions of dollars on this product. I love my team and everyone always thinks that somehow someway their team has a chance to win it all. I'm not knocking anyone. Just attempting to make a point that your team will perform for you about the length of the average work week.
We will soon see! Boomer!
So they think kansas is the best left in the big 12 this year?
I don't know why there is hype at all. Play the games. That's all that matters. We lost to freaking OSU, Kansas, and an average Arizona.
There should be no hype.
An average Arizona? Do you even know what you’re saying rn? 💀
@zacharyowens3547 yeah I do. That was not a great team. They were average. We made them look like world beaters. We weren't motivated. Our guys went through the motions. JA flat out sink for most of the game. I'm not blaming him though. He was a freshman. It was a team pathetic loss.
I with you Soonertee! Until we beat the lower tier teams consistently, forget talking nati or even top 10 rankings… Boomer
@@soonerteeQuarters 2 & 3 of the bowl game, JA played as good of a game as one could hope and basically took over the game, considering a Frankenstein OL for that game and his first start. How can you call yourself a Sooner and be that critical of your young qb? OU will be just fine!
@HeadlessAce pretty easy, actually. I'm just not a sunshine pumper when there's no reason to be. When they give me a reason to pump sunshine, I'll be right there doing so.
When they lose to those 3 teams, I'm going to be critical. I played qb at the collegiate level. I am more critical of that position than any since I know it the best. Sue me.
Don’t buy the hype …. Bowl eligible should be realistic however ……7-5 is reality …. 8 wins is the goal from here out
