The first time I heard First Burn I immediately jived with it. I’m sure we all know I’m a fan of Hamilton (and a lot of you lovely folks are too!) and I knew I had to cover it asap!
From a personal perspective, I really loved the way this version captured Eliza’s character. Although the album version of Burn better suits the story (in my opinion), I absolutely LOVED the aggressiveness and anger that came with this. It provided a different side of Eliza and I have no complaints about it!
One thing that was a bit weird though was recording harmonies to a solo broadway song. It threw me for a bit of a loop. I tried to keep them to a minimum because sounded so out of place to me. This song is very pop-y, but the arrangement I used reminded me of broadway so I feel this weird disconnect between my cover and the actual release. Because of that, I sang it more from a place of broadway, rather than a pop single. If there is a full orchestrated instrumental of First Burn out in the next little while, I will 100% preform and re-record it accurately to the release! Either way, please let me know how you felt!

What Hamilton did was wrong but will anyone who did not mean it starve themself, lock themself and slept in his own office and only write letters and do nothing else? Hamilton regrets everything and Elizabeth has forgiven him and thankfully, he stayed faithfull like before the reynolds till he dueled Aaron Burr and met the end of his life
The first burn song was actually switched out for burn because Lin wanted a more personal take on Eliza's view lol

I love this version of Burn, I agree with what you said in the description, the other version of Burn that's used in the musical better suits the storyline and means that when we get to 'Who Lives, Who Dies' there's a stronger meaning there about family. Had this version been used in the musical I feel that the intensity and emotion of the final song would have been depleted slightly. That said, I adore this version of the song and you did a phenomenal job of it, the added lyrics just adds a whole new layer to the emotion Eliza feels. Well done for an amazing cover Anna.

This song means an extreme amount to me... My ex, who won’t be named, loved singing he had an amazing voice. He was a theater guy who loved all musicals and introduced me to Hamilton... I loved that guy with all my heart we were only an hour apart but we spent all day texting and all night face timing he was the first guy I ever told my parents about and he came out to his parents for me... we met for the first time at an amusement park due to a club. It was amazing the feeling that struck me when I saw him could only be explained by the beats of my heart. We broke up because he told me I cheated on him when I DID NOT! He kept saying that I cheated on him yet I got no response no cause no proof no evidence. A few weeks pass and he starts dating the guy he accused me of cheating with and it pains my heart to this day. I listened to the Hamilton soundtrack a few hundred times trying to belt out my emotions and I will always cry when this song comes on because it was the last thing he sent to me before we parted ways...Beautifully done as always Anna thank you for this! 💕💕
