This is probably the second most beautiful song in the musical. Not only because of the words and vocals- but because she's about the only one not turning him into a hero. She knows Connor wasn't the best person, and she isn't changing her view just because he's gone. He treated his family like shit while he was alive. He threatened to kill his little sister, for God's sake. While everyone else was suddenly grieving over someone they hated and treated like shit- lying through their teeth, Zoe was being real about it all. She's angry and she has every right to be.
@InkyStory I feel both parties are at fault. I have mental illnesses, but that doesn't give me the right to treat people like shit. He shouldn't have done that. They also should have helped him. There is not just one party in the wrong.

I personally think that Connor experienced an episode of psychosis or something similar one time and during the distress he lashed out at Zoe. Even though I think it was a genuine accident, that doesn’t erase the pain Zoe went through. Additionally, I’d like to say that Connor and Zoe were both toxic to each other. They yelled at each other, said hurtful things about it each other, and ultimately abandoned each other (Connor pushed Zoe away and became stand-offish, making Zoe feel hurt and Zoe stopped trying to be supportive or there for him which made him feel abandoned). I don’t like acting like any one of them was better or worse and while I don’t think the relationship was necessarily abusive (I don’t think there’s enough evidence or information about their relationship to confirm this), I do think that it was at least more toxic than typical sibling rivalry. I do think however, that they genuinely loved each other deep down and that they could have repaired their relationship.

ok but really anna's content and voice has greatly improved over these past few years. she's not like any other cover artist though, she puts her own spin on all the songs, which makes her covers worth watching.
I always felt that this song held so much resentment and anger that made the break down near the end seem out of place. Your version was like numb frustration that reasonably turned into an emotional breaking point. 10/10 Anna is the best. Love it! 💜
dirt track chick If you have been in a similar situation, the breakdown makes sense (at least to me in my experiences) you break down because you feel guilty that you hate this person, yet you still love them. You know the person you love is gone and has been gone for a while. Your mad, you resent them for leaving you. But you feel awful that you feel that way, yet you still are sad that they are gone. You miss them. But you hate them. That's just how I felt when I went through a similar situation to Zoe's, but I know everyone is different and experiences grief differently. Anna's version is still very good and pushes the emotion through in a different way, but I do understand the way the emotion works in the original.

This song means a lot to me because it helped me get out of an emotionally abusive relationship and it opened my eyes in a way and I didn’t deserve to be treated the way. I love this song and her voice is beautiful. The song explains how self acceptance works. It doesn’t always matter why or how a person could hurt you the fact that they did is not ok. And you have a right to feel the hurt and anger period. This is true grief not just for her brother , but also the past hurt coming to the surface. This is what it means to be human and after she felt through all her emotions and feelings then she can begin to heal.

I don't know if this is what you intended but the fact that now it's completely in Zoe's pov gives the last 3 "I will sing no requiem" new meaning. This song means a lot to me because it helped me get out of an emotionally abusive relationship and it opened my eyes in a way and I didn’t deserve to be treated the way. And you have a right to feel the hurt and anger period. This is true grief not just for her brother , but also the past hurt coming to the surface. This is what it means to be human and after she felt through all her emotions and feelings then she can begin to heal.

I don't know if this is what you intended but the fact that now it's completely in Zoe's pov gives the last 3 "I will sing no requiem" new meaning.
