VDNKh: a fantastic Moscow park only locals know | Russia vlog

- VDNKh is a Moscow park famous for outdoor and indoor attractions. It was built to represent the countries part of the Soviet Union and exhibit their achievements, and now it's a great place to enjoy both winter and summer in Moscow, Russia. (2018 vlog)
VDNKh (or VDNH) is among the best places to visit in Moscow, although few foreigners know about it. It's worth seeing the gardens, the fountains (if they're turned on!), the Space Pavilion, the Cosmonautics museum and for kids, the aquarium (Moskvarium).
In this vlog, after VDNKh we also visit Ostankino Tower and hotel Ukraina, one of the Seven Sisters.

Please don't give up on Ostankino TV tower!I once tried to visit and had some problems with ID check, security etc. I gave up then and still regret it.Hope one day I'll visit(I'm local btw). All you have to do is pick the right time and right weather.I recommend evening for the best view .You can buy tickets through the website. Also there is a spinning floor restaurant in the tower-totally a must-see experience.Too bad it needs booking though. There's also an interactive multimedia complex and a souvenir shop.
I can also recommend visiting Bauman's garden on Staraya Basmannaya street. It's not that big and has fewer tourists but it is absolutely beautiful. Not sure how you prefer to travel around Moscow, but here is the link with a route by public transport so you won't mistake the place for something else www.google.com/maps/dir/Radisson+Royal+Hotel,+Moscow,+%D0%9C%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B2%D0%B0/55.7656428,37.6605512/@55.7545935,37.5423238,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x46b54bc9a0d9e111:0x865327ef074bf0ca!2m2!1d37.5656328!2d55.7514811!1m0!3e3?hl=en

That is so kind of you! 😍😍😍 Thank you so much! I'm saving it here to my personal Google Maps planning for next time. Unfortunately, I already left Moscow. There's still another vlog I'll post next Sunday that I'm editing now (the vlogs a little behind real life as it takes me a lot of time to edit), but I know in my heart I'll be back in Moscow ❤️
I loved Moscow. I hav had in Moscow during World Cup 2018. It was fantastic. Moscow is a wonderful city.
Yeah, the World Cup was amazing!!! 😍😍😍 And Moscow is incredible ❤️, love it too
Ms Renata, thank you for sharing your smile and the beautiful scenery. With love from Canada.
I am in awe of Allll of Moscow, s beauty. A balance between the new and old. Stunning. Cape Town ❤️
Couldn't agree more! May beautiful places to see. Did you see our St. Petersburg videos?
"Na zdorovje" is a kind of answers if someone says "spasibo" ("thank you"). An another option to answer is "pozhaluysta". People use "na zdorovje" as "cheers" only in stupid American movies. Russian people NEVER say like this! They can use the phrase "vashe zdorovje" or "za [your or somebody's] zdorovje" as "cheers" if they drink something. "Vashe zdorovje" is equal to "I wish you to stay healthy"
Thank you very much for the info! Little by little I'll learn 😉

Very beautiful video. I subscribed immediately. Moscow is easily among the top 5 most beautiful cities in the world. Their architecture and gardens are out of this world. Great credit to the planners of this great city.
My absolute compliments to you and your husband for being such positive persons! Keep doing what you've been doing! (Born in the USSR)

Your videos are SO HELPFUL in planning our trips to Russia! Last summer we went to St Pete, this year we are going to Moscow! Thanks for the great info!!
Your most welcome! How long do you plan to visit Moscow (did you visit St Pete)?
@@RenataPereiraTV We stayed 5 nights in St Petersburg and maybe will do same for Moscow before going to Ukraine. Have you been to Ukraine yet?
No we have not visit Ukraine and not much of Europe or east Europe for that matter. Enjoy
Hello, dear Renata!
Maybe you will be surprised to discover that Russians never say “na zdorovie” before drinking a glass of vodka. “Na zdorovie” means “let it be good for your health”, and it cannot be used any time you want to use it, but in a few certain situation:
1. The main case when this phrase can be used is when your guests are at your place and they ate something that you cooked for them and said “Thank you” to you. In response you say “Na zdorovie”. Actually it means the same as "you are welcome"(in answer to a thanks for food or refreshments).
2. "To your heart's content" . "Кушайте на здоровье".- Eat to your heart's content! ( Eat for it were good for your health).
3."Do as you want at your own risk" (sarcasticly). You want to jump off the roof? -Na zdorovie! (Go ahead! Do as you want!).
The similar but correct phrase when sharing a drink or proposing a toast in Russian is "За здоро́вье!"(Za zdorovie) with "za" rather than "na." The difference in prepositions makes the difference between the phrase meaning, "To your health!" (za) and "For your health," (na). "Cheers!"
I hope this will be helpful :)
Hi Catalina! This was tremendously helpful! Thank you so much and thanks for showing me the various forms one can use the expression, I really appreciate it! 😊❤
My pleasure 😊, thank you for this amazing tour!
All of that is completely correct with one minor correction, though. ‘Za zdorovye’, although grammatically correct, is not something people would normally toast to either. Instead, when there’s a need for a generic toast, people use nonsensical one-liners: “Budyem” (let us be), “Vzdrognem” (let’s shake it up / keep it popping), “Poekhali” (let’s go), etc. The closest equivalent to the “zdorovye” (health) toast would be, “Budyem zdorovy” (let us be healthy). All of those toasts are normally preceded by “Nu” (“well”/“so”) :D
say “na zdorovie” before drinking a glass of vodka.
----------
please . stop this bullshit!!!!!!!!!!
NOT ALL RUSSIANS DRINK VODKA!!!!!!
As a Russian, I can confirm that this is true. Not sure why foreigners mixed up "na zdorovje" and "za zdorovje". I mean they do sound similar, but small particles still make the difference.
I was there in june and i saw the space museum really awesome , russian people are so friendly

Na Zdorovie means "For good health". It is a wish that the product you bought should benefit you.
That is a very nice thing to say 😊, I wish all languages had a similar response 😉
Yep, and "na zdorovie" during vodka shots you may see only in hollywood movies, russians don't say like that.
The "cheers" sounds "za zdorovie" not "na zdorovie". Means "for good health" like in "i wish we have/get/maintain the good health". "Na zdorovie", instead, means "have this and get a good health", like the food you get will make you feel better, unlike the "cheer" one, where they only wish to have/get a good health, but the alcohol itself or the drinking process does not give the good health.
OMG to many subtitles) what a nice job you maked!! Thanks
Hahahahaha! I love languages and I want everyone to understand the vlogs 😉
Посмотри на эту картинку: oquevidomundo.com/petropolis-a-cidade-imperial/museu-imperial-petropolis/

Hi Val! Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
My grandmother (and many old people in the 70s and 80s) to thank for the meal (Thanks), always answered Kushay na zdorovye (Eat for health). It was about eating. This means that the wish that the food you eat is good for you. This is a very ancient wish. In the old days there were no refrigerators and that to save food people had to put a lot of effort. For this reason, not always the food was edible or useful. Therefore, they wished for health at the time, they say, the main thing is that there should be no harm from eating.
By the way, when a person sneezes in Russia, they also want health. They say "Be healthy". On the wish of health in this case it is necessary to say "Thank you".
Loved to hear the background on "na zdorovye", thank you very much! So I'd also say "na zdorovye" when someone sneezes? That's so interesting, as, in Portuguese, my native language, it's also like this. We use the same word when we want to say "cheers" and when someone sneezes, both meaning "health".
You got lucky, the place has just been opened after huge renovation. Mosow's mayor decided to return the look anf feel of the 50s to this place. It's been a building site for a few years. And for all visiting - I would advise to rent an electric scooter there (the one you stand on while driving), it's 8$ an hour or two I believe, near the entrance.
Oh wow! Yes, very lucky then! 😉 And that's a great idea! I didn't even realize there were electric scooters... So nice!
Actually, the renovation hasn't been completed yet, and some parts are still a building site. It will be finished next year. And a few days ago they finally turned on the fountains, I visited the place just a few hours ago :)). So you have a good reason to visit it again next year. Thanks for the nice video.
My pleasure! How great that you got to see it with the fountains on! 😍😍😍
You should go back...during winter...it is beatiful

Renata, @8:22 you have a brief shot of the Federation Tower that also has a pretty cool 360° observation platform on the 89th floor. The ticket price is comparable to that at Ostankino, and, as far as I recall, you don't need a passport to visit it. The tower is located a few steps from the "Vystavochnaya" metro station.

"Na zdorovie" is not "cheers" at all, it's a worldwide mistake. It is more like traditional form of "you are welcome" after doing something good for someone but translated like "wish it would be good for your health". But if it's toasting people usually say "za vashe zdorovie" that means something like wishing "let your health be good".
Thank you very much for letting me know! Little by little I’ll start understanding better 😉
A good reason for why this could also be misunderstood is because we in Czech say na zdraví which can be used in Czech in the way it cant in russian. So probably same goes for slovak and polish speakers, and those spreading around the world Im sure thats how some confusion and assumption took place
@@mrdjgaming3895 in Serbian we say "na zdravlje" when someone sneezes, we say živeli ( cheers ) but the verb is nazdraviti.

Amazing video :) thank you!!
Hi Sergey! Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
It's a must see when you visit Moscow. The fountain was on when I went there, Sep 2019. They also got some hidden speakers with slow pitched Russian music, total ambient was awesome. I could sit there all day..
Wow! Thanks for the information. It is a gem of a place😃😃
Excellent video, thanks.
... at the far end of VDNH there is (was?) a "secret" gate that leads to the magnificent Botanical Garden.
The Tsytsin Main Moscow Botanical Garden of Academy of Sciences was founded in April 1945, and claims itself to be the largest botanical garden in Europe.[1] It covers a territory of approximately 3.61 km², bordering the VDNKH Exhibition Center, and contains a live exhibition of more than twenty thousand different species of plants coming from various parts of the world. The garden also has a scientific research laboratory and contains a rosarium with twenty thousand rose bushes, a dendrarium (arboretum), an oak forest with the average age of the trees exceeding 100 years, a Japanese garden and a greenhouse of more than 5000 square meters.

"на здоровье"(na zdoroviye) means "you-re welcome" or "i hope it would bring you health" - something between. our "prosit" or "cheers" while drinking is "будем" - "let us be"
Great! That's a nice new and easy word for me 😉 Thanks!
Renata! I love your video! Two different meanings: "Na zdoroviye" is version of the word "you-re welcome" for food or drink. "Za zdoroviye" means "cheers" while drinking. But both of them literally "I hope it would bring you (us) health"
Well done Renata, good videos and comments.
But I liked it much more, as long as there were no large construction projects on the territory. There was an atmosphere of some wild freedom of the 90s. Peculiar Hyde Park

I`ve been in this park in February - it was amazing. And manage to go up to the Ostankino-tower as well. :-)
Ha! Is it still busy and alive in February the middle of winter? How is it different? Thanks for watching commenting
@@RenataPereiraTV Well, it`s alive but much less busy than during summertime. Of course there are no flowers - but the huge ice-rink is on - no fountains - there is frost of course - but still amazing place. At Ostankino only a few people - no queuing. I spent five days in Mockba so I`m going back - that`s for sure. Five days is not enough from Moscow.
"На здоровье" ("Na zdorov'e") was like - you r welcome (or more literary for good health). It s not only for drinking.😊
We don't drink "Na zdorov'e". We drink "Za zdorov'e". It's just a Western stereotype. :) Or rather Hollywood:) With all my respect for some of their actors and movies. :-)
