Love how all the gems start to pay more and more attention to Phos as they their parts are changed, confirming Phos' internalized self hatred and how they see themselves as unloveable unless they were "strong enough", totally love that Phos is exhausting themselves both physically and mentally because they are terrified of failing and being powerless again by falling asleep which is a constant remiender of their worst moment. Totally very much love that. Yup. :,)
Was waiting for this episode with how much you dreaded the scenario where Phos forgets Cinnabar. Good observations as always, and regarding your observation on tears, it’s sort of an exclusive to Cinnabar, and now Phos with their fluidy components. (Don’t ask how come the gems can have sweat drops…)
I think this is the point where I was fully on board with this series. I don't think this development would have worked if we didn't already like Phos. I always liked how childish the gems suddenly seem in this episode, while they weren't mature and serious before, they did seem that way because of how immature Phos was but now it's kind of reversed. It's also a bit weird that none of the gems seems to empathize or try to comfort Phos, we know quite a few gems were taken so most of them should understand what it's like. But maybe they just don't know how close Phos and Antarc were since they haven't interacted much before this winter or it could be a consequence of being immortal. Interactions between Phos and the Gems this episode also reminded me of stories(From real life) where you have people who have gone trough something traumatic feel alienated and upset by the world moving on like nothing happened. Though so far Phos doesn't seem to hold it against them and the gems actually want to interact with Phos more than before. Okay so, I think discussion about gender is pretty uninteresting in the context of this show but I do have some thoughts on it. Gender is a spectrum and I think most of the gems lean more towards the feminine side while there are some who seem more masculine like Bort and Yellow Diamond. I always found it interesting how Phos character design moved a bit towards the masculine with this episode, though you could argue she is just less childish looking with the smaller pupils, short hair and serious demeanour. One last thing regarding the discussion about emotions and attachments around 7 minutes in: I'm not an expert in Buddhism but you are supposed to let go of your attachments in order to reach enlightenment so it kind of makes sense why a monk looking character would consider tears a flaw.
Thank you for the reactions! I do have a question regarding this series… Will this series be given the berserk treatment as in the manga reactions will be starting from the first volume?
Thank you for the comment and kind words! My plan right now is to read Volumes 1-4 on my own time and take notes/note any images I want to show in the review and then start actual "reactions" with Volume 5. That just fits my schedule and personal style better. I hope you all watch!
It's sort of insane that Bort shares the same VA as Gabi from Attack on Titan & Ochako from MHA. Like i can't hear Bortz in any of those performances (apart from moments when Gabi goes on a rant about devils)
That is WILD the range of this VA! Bort's voice is so deep compared to Gabi AND Ochako - The VA RANGE! Thank you for that information - voice actors are so versatile with their skill!
Manga is beautiful and unique. But sometimes it isn't easy to distinguish characters, since they have a similar shape, and without colors, you have to rely on a hairstyle. Beware of spoilers 💎
I wanted to mention that I'm glad you didn't look up Antarcticite like you did other minerals cause that instantly spoiled me on their fate back then when I watched the series for the first time and was curious too, even though being warned about it probably makes you come to similar conclusion anyway - but you can also argue the "vibes" were there either way. Still, it's kinda funny how antacrticite is obscure enough that this series is what it is known most for. Metamorphosis is the word that randomly came to my mind seeing all the Phos changes in body in addition to mind, especially when those changes can look strikingly different with those wild golden shapes that can be formed by Phos. The only reason I bring this term up is cause I remembered the times when Phos got into a precarious situation (snail thing) for the first time - she was mistaken for at-the-time-unknown catterpillar-like creature by Dia soon afterwards and those are poster "children" for metamorphosis when turning into butterflies. But yeah, just calling it character growth of even coming of age is more than appropriate to describe what's going on with Phos too, lol. And given that gems are 'bones' and most physical part of the humans it feels natural that their growth and changes mentally could be associated with physical changes at the same to a more striking effect than usual. Anyway, love to see how well done Phos journey already is in such a small amount of episodes considering we are also getting some really cool world-building / mystery aspect in the (not so) background at the same time. P.S. Love the thumbnail choice. It comes from my "shounen junkie" background as origin of it but I always liked leader of and/or oldest person in the organization archetype the most in almost any given series so anytime the series puts some focus or depth to these kind of characters my interest in them amplifies to even crazier degree. So yeah, I like my Adamant/Kongo scenes is what it comes down to it in this context, lol.

It’s really sad and the discussion definitely talked about this! Thanks for the comment!
The art in the manga is beautiful.

It's hard to say which episode is more sad....8 or 9. they both deal with a massive loss.
YES! Two losses in massive ways and both episodes really, really sad! :(

New Phos 😢💚
Which is super sad, to be sure! Thank you for the comment!

she changed so much she even has a different voice actress ahah
nope still Tomoyo Kurosawa. she’s an extremely talented voice actress
@Anthem34 what? i was sure i read that in a wiki or something.. guess i have been lied to 😆
@@colox97im not familiar with the english dub but it could have been referring to that
Actually both the English dub and Japanese sub have the same voice actress for the role the entire time.
Thanks for the comment!
