One thing to think about when talking about whether Jinshi chemically castrating himself is a good or bad thing is the fact that he may not even be able to *get it up* after taking these drugs for too long. It could physically alter his ability to get aroused, among other health issues. Regardless of whether he wants kids down the road or not, I don't think the long-term effects of this drug would be good for his physical and mental health **at all**, so I don't think we should be talking about this as a "maybe good thing". But that's just my take on it, as a male who also doesn't want kids but also doesn't want to lose my sex drive or feelings of arousal to whomever I am in love with.
I don't mean this to be rude or hostile to anyone who finds the idea of Maomao and Jinshi having kids appealing, this is totally a me problem, but the thought of Maomao ever being pregnant is slightly worrying to me. If Maomao had access to alcohol whenever she wanted as well as to any sort of drug or poison she wanted, she would always be on something. No doubt in my mind. That girl is boardering on addiction if not already there. If she did get pregnant then she'd need round the clock supervision to make sure she doesn't experiment or drink or something. I mean, in one of the earlier episodes she casually sucks poisoned nector from a flower. It's not enough to affect someone her size or even Jinshi, but still. Sure she'll know that whatever she takes will affect the baby even after she gives birth and breast feeds, but if you look at the real world, that doesn't stop most addicts and the child suffers for it. I'm one of four sisters whose biological mother was a chain smoker and was an alcoholic who "didn't drink while pregnant or breastfeeding," her words, yet three of us have mental problems of varying degrees from FASD. And all of us are physically affected. Most very mildly. but one to where she was in and out of the hospital until she died. There have been studies that small amounts of alcohol while pregnant is fine. So are some prescription medications, but Maomao likes poisons too. There is a difference between taking medicine to regulate anxiety and glucose levels and another to take a medication to get high or straight up consuming poison. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Maomao and Jinshe would have beautiful and intelligent children. Jinshi would totally be one of those dads that dotes constantly on his children while Maomao would do the more practical teacher. But in the back of my mind would constantly be "did she take anything while pregnant? how much alcohol did she drink? Would a modern day doctor say that would be alright for her to consume? Is the baby going to be alright even after it matures into an adult?"
Oh yeah, that is a point about MaoMao and her drug testing and how dangerous that could be! I also just don’t see MaoMao as “wanting” a kid, and as someone that also doesn’t want a kid right now (if ever), I can relate and it would be refreshing to have a female character not “made” to have a kid.
