Man am I glad I found this video. I have some excess movement on my passage side of a pocket door and I wasnt sure how to dress it up. This is a great idea
Love the detail with the recess! Very good idea. Thank you!
Most don't take in account if you ever need to remove or adjust the door. On the inside of the room, the bathroom side, you should make the head jamb trim piece removable. That means leaving ends square and screwing it in place for future adjustment/removal. You won't be nailing bottom edge of casing either. You can fill screw holes and paint or use screw caps to cover screw heads. Like the pocket detail when door is closed. I cut the tabs of the guides off that stick into the door opening, looks a bit neater and you don't hit them when vacuuming.
After reading many , many , many comments , I need to congratulate you , because you deserve it !!! it's amazing how wrong information is more acceptable then the right one and how do people make this videos without having a idea how to trim out a pocket door , good job bdyt
Ken, perfectly clear and concise. Just what I needed to finish this project.
Thank you Ken. I hid the plastic door guides by carving out the back side of 2 pcs of ripped 1 x 3 on the pocket side of the opening. Used 2 screws in the guides (to prevent guide movement) then hid the guides behind the trim.
Thanks Ken! I'm getting ready to trim out the pocket door I just installed and this recessed idea is a great one.
Thanks Tim. It was my first time using a pocket door in my house and your video was just what I needed to finish it out!
This is so pure . Thank you ken!!!
thank you Ken for uploading this video and taking the time to do this. helpful!
Great video! Thank you for the hints. After getting in the door I was very confused on how to go about doing the inside trim.
This is what I initially figured how it’s done but didn’t know for sure. Thanks for the share

I like the recessed jamb. For some reason the instructions say not to use a dado jamb, but it seems to work for you.

Very helpful! Are jambs sold with recess?
Watching here keep safe godbless m.a
I like your work boots. haha
Lol! Just relaxing - we made this video 10:30 at night - besides the wife doesn't allow shoes in the house!
How do you make the stop trim?
Question: Are the plastic bumpers generally necessary? We recently had a contractor install several pockets doors when we finished our basement and feel like the plastic bumpers and steel screws that lie on top of a dark wood floor give a strange look.

Thanks for sharing. Where did you get the door handle? I cant find one like that.
Please look at the previous comments as I answered the same question. I don't have the answer handy right now.
are those slippers OSHA approved?
Great video just what I needed to know. Did u install the pocket door too? Where did you get the hardware?
Yes, I bought the unfinished pine door slabs from Lowe's, painted on 3 coats of stain and 2 coats of satin clear. I installed them with Johnson Hardware - ordered what I needed, online, as my contractor used Johnson Hardware kits to install the pocket door framing. Just a note to get your back door rubber stop the right thickness, so the door is level with the trim, when it's all the way open.
I see you didn’t need a transition on the floor due to the flooring running into both rooms. I’m replacing a existing door with a pocket door. Can I use a door jam as the transitioning the floor so that it matches the door jam I am installing? And how can I find that door hardware? Can you post a link ?
Gudjob sir so beautiful
Dikit tamsak done..kalimbang all
Good, work. Have you made a locking pocket door?
I have not. I had 4 pocket doors we trimmed out, but none of them really needed a lock.
Good job. One thing I see, the plastic door guides should go in before the trim is installed so they do not protrude into the door opening.
The instructions that come with the Johnson pocket doors say to do it how he did. That way you can center it between the trim and get a even reveal.
You need to be able to adjust the guides up or down to fine-tune their performance against the door. I don't understand why they make protruding guides either.
Great Great Video. Where did you get the hand grab????? and what is it called looks awesome.
Look at my answer earlier to Sarah Easter. I'd copy and past it for you, but I'm on my phone.
@@mnspeed1932 Thanks.
nice work. what is bdyt talking about?i want to make sure i leave open to adjust in future???
The upper inside trim on the back side. He thought I should have just squared it off and used small screws so I could just unscrew it if I wanted to take the door off for any reason. I didn't waste my time doing that. I'll just take a small screw driver and work the trim off if I want to do that.

We love the hardware... where did you get it from? Thank you!
I found them at www.build.com. They are made by Sugatsune (Spain) part# DSI-3250-35. They make the door easy to open and close, which is important for the enjoyment of a pocket door. Well worth the money!
@@mnspeed1932 Thank you! They are beautiful...

Hello sending my support from maiza alawia
Where did you get your door pulls? I like that style a lot better than the rectangular ones.

How do you lock the door?
Ken
Where did you buy the handle set ?
Thank you
I don't remember where online I ordered it from, but see Lowe's now sells them. It's the Sugatsune 1.97 stainless steel door pull.
What are the shims in place for?
I put the nails through the shims to secure it plumb.
I cannot find the 1-3/8" wide trim at lowes at all! All they sell is 1-1/2" in my area! ugh! any suggestions?
If you have a table saw, you can rip the 1-1/2" down to 1-3/8's. Otherwise check another store that sells lumber for 1-3/8's.
Yeah, it is very strange that they sell all the pocket door stuff but not a size of pre-cut wood that fits. And since HD and other lumber places will only do cross cut, you have to have a table saw. I used 5/8" drywall so even the larger peice has to be cut down for me as the store only has 4 9/16" for 2x4+ 1/2" drywall.
How does one get the offset
Just measure it.

Sandals and shorts? How can I trust this information if you're not wearing crisp jeans, a flannel shirt neatly tucked in, brand new boots, leather gloves, safety glasses, and a hard hat?
Haha, love the comment!!

hello po im from maiza alawia
Poor installation, you did not observed the handle being sunk into the trim. The top nailer on the inside should NOT be nailed in the event that you need to remove the door from the track. Sorry but this is not how is done.
Thanks for your response. I think your idea of just screwing in the backside of your trim, so you can easily take it off to remove the door is a good idea. I've been on my addition project for 5 years and at this point, I simply want to get it done and decided just to nail it.
If you listen to my video, I point out that there's a couple different ways to leave the door jam - with no trim, as you prefer, or a recess, as I prefer. That's what makes us all unique, in a good way. God Bless!
For the door handles - the space for them was meticulously cut into the door - drilling and using a drill metal burr bit - with only a 1/16 inch to spare and then glued the handles into place.
