It's currently running a Celeron M 520, 1GB RAM, and an HDD. Edit: I finally upgraded my Toshiba to 2GB RAM, a T7200, and a 128GB SSD. It's running Q4OS with Pale Moon as the default browser and it's so fun to use. It barely exceeds 1400MB RAM even when running RUclips!

That P 8600 and ram are your main choke points. I have a dell Vostro 1720 that I recently maxed out with a T 9900, 8 GB of crucial ram, a draft N wireless card, as well as a 500 GB Samsung 870 Evo. Loaded up Windows 7 professional as that OS was the last one that dell offered driver support for and the thing runs at warp speed. No lag, 18% CPU usage under heavy loads, 1.8 GB of RAM used under heavy loads, thing is a beast. The P 8600 is limited with its 3 MB of L2 cash and only a 2.40 GHz clock speed. The best processor one of those machines could run is the T 9900 with 6 MB of cash and 3.06 GHz clock. Do the T 9900 because if you go up to the core two duo extreme 9000 series, the motherboard will burn itself out
Thanks for your comment. I have a Dell Latitude E6400 with a P 8600 2.4 GHz clock speed and 4 gb ram that runs Windows 10. I recently placed an order for two 4 gb ddr 2 ram I also wanted to upgrade my CPU but was apprehensive in which CPU to upgrade to without damaging the motherboard. I found some options on ali express. Would you recommend I use a T9300 or a T9600 instead of a T9900 as these are $20 cheaper? Thanks for your input
Crazy how that 15 year old laptop is still usable for basic things. I had a Dell Vostro 200 from 2014-2016, core 2 duo, intel 945, ran windows 10 really well which below me away back then, since my mom had a laptop from 2006 which ran windows 10 like crap. My dad threw away the PC in 2018, not sure what happened to it though but hope it wasn't destroyed lol, but I didn't have any use for it personally as we had much superior hardware at home at the time. I currently use a Dell OptiPlex 990 from 2011, and it's still good for light to moderate use.
The 15 Year old Deskop PC doing its job aswell for basic things. Using a SSD with Windows 10 on a Dell Optiplex 755 core 2 duo e7330, 4gb ram hd5450. So same specs like 11 year ago. just upgraded to a ssd making the pc snappier, way snappier than the apple devices
i have several core2duo laptops and desktops and they all perform great. some of the higher end ones can even play fallout 76 and Gta V and other games with a graphics card upgrade. very surprising indeed.
I do computer repairs in the UK, using PNY SSDs a lot and I have seen only one of them that failed. They make huge sense as good drives for not much money. People do not want to spend lots of money reviving their old computers but these SSDs make it possible. I used ADATA before but found these PNYs even better. Highly recommended.
@@karolkrasinski8947 Ah, glad to hear those PNY's aren't as bad as they are portrayed on Amazon. Even if they were, though, given how cheap they are it's hard to complain. The one I have is still going strong too, fingers crossed.
I also used to use this HP Pavilion dv6-1120et, which was also dual-core and had just 3GB of RAM. With Linux becoming more and more popular, I think we will see Dual Core laptops with under 4GB of ram easily last until 2025, maybe even longer.
I have a lot of laptops, but I have two that I generally go to when I need a laptop. I normally use my Dell XPS M1530, which I am currently using. Or my Dell Latitude D830. Both of which are still surprisingly good performers even with modern tasks with 4gb RAM and a 128gb San disk SSD and Windows 7. I actually have two dell latitude e5500 machines like you showed in the video as well. One of them I have loaned out to someone. The other one I have is a TOTL line of that model, it has the NVIDIA graphics and a backlit keyboard. It is a really solid machine, but for some reason I still prefer the feel of the older D series like the D830.
Glad to hear that! I really love the quality feel and bulk of older laptops, as well as the modularity and upgradability they have. It's pretty amazing how well they still work these days too.
@@Val9kIsTaken it really is, and if you think about it, a laptop from 2007 is still perfectly usable for most things an average user would do on a laptop, and with some slight upgrades is actually pretty snappy at doing so. 2007 was 15 years ago. In 2007, you would not be using a 15 year old computer for modern tasks, that would be a machine from 1992, which at that point in time was really obsolete.
@@Frank_Pods Yeah, these days honestly things aren't as upgradeable as they were before which is pretty sad. One of the downsides of more modularity is bigger size but honestly I prefer that over having a more compact laptop I can't upgrade.
I have fond memories of my Latitude D620 that I used to use for duck life when I was little... but my parents threw it out a long time ago when we moved. Luckily I bought a D620 back and am waiting for a new display to arrive later this week. Despite having a maxed out Precision 7760 that I bought at launch, and a maxed out XPS 7590, I still use my E6410 whenever I need to travel. Everything about it, such as the incredibly bright matte screen, the power indicator on the lid, to the 7 row keyboard, the 11 hours battery life, just keeps me wanting to use it. In the 12 years that it has been used every single day passed down through my family, it has only needed $60 in repairs (new battery, new keyboard, new hinges).
@@vivek_v Yeah, I have an e6410. It is pretty nice, Mine is maxed out, It has the backlit keyboard and the NVIDIA graphics. It still preforms very well also. I don't use it hardly ever, it needs a battery and a hard drive caddy.
Yeah, modern chips, even older i7's, are STILL good. I have a 6th gen i7 laptop, and I swear it does everything I need it to do while traveling. It performs excellent as a remote desktop client and web browsing or web apps. It's not like how it was 20 years ago where an older CPU would be nearly useless. Older, modern CPUs tend to be way overpowered for most everything except for games.
I have an old Lenovo laptop with the intel 965 chipset, I was able to upgrade to from 1GB to 8GB DDR2 RAM, a T9300, an SSD, and even on Windows 10, it boots very quick, and pretty snappy for basic web browsing. Can have plenty of tabs open, and even watching this now at 1080p without much of a frame drop.
some c2 era laptops support quad core, there was even extreme editions. pll mods allow bsel pinmod overclocking and throttle stop can be used to force intel dynamic acceleration to be active all the time (extra step on cpu multiplier kind of like turbo boost) some modded books allow for ida on both cores simultaneously. If you get one with a discrete gpu you might have an upgrade path open there too, iirc there was a software to force desktop gpu clocks for intel mobile chipset graphics but it was not free.
I have a hp dv5000 with nvidia that was pretty pricey back in 2006, i have upgraded to an ssd, max ram, and a intel t7600. It is a much capable notebook in 2023
I have 2 laptops with the Core Duo T3200 and they perform much better with Windows XP 32bit than Win 10 64bit or even 7. So anybody who wants to use a laptop from before 2010, you can totally use Win XP 32bit with some tooling and workarounds. I can play retro games without a problem, emulators works fine(SEGA Genesis and SNES) and youtube 720p is totally okay without framedrops with the Mypal browser. I have tried many many linux distros, but for me Windows XP 32bit was the best. I am using the Integral Edition which is updated by the community.
@@peterbalogh8850 Yeah for sure, the more modern operating systems are much more taxing on the machine. It's interesting to hear there is a community maintained version of XP, that's actually really cool!
@@Val9kIsTaken The only downside is that there is no 64bit version. It is very rare that a program only has a 64bit version for xp, but still, I would rather have all my bits. :)
I'd say in the early 2020s, late 2000s pcs (except for the really high end ones) are pretty obsolete unless you are doing the most basic of things. They are good for writing essays lol. Pentium 4s or any single core computer can't really run Windows 10, at least duel core CPUs can handle Windows 10 I'll give it that.
The problem is not the CPU, Core 2 Duo are still capable processors, but the real issue is the graphic chip (Intel 945 in most Core 2 Duo laptops is useless today).
I'm still using a Toshiba laptop with a Pentium t4300 dual core, 3GB DDR2, with an HDD, and was Never Upgraded. Came with Windows Vista 32bit, recently put Lubuntu 64 bit on it. RUclips, HBO Max, and Netflix still runs very well on it and page loading speeds are still quite fast but there are some limitations on it when it comes to modern browsing on this old machine
Gonna be honest, yes! I am using a MacBook Air 2009 with the upgraded 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and it runs just fine. 2GB of ram too! Proves how insanely reliable these old Macs are. Cant say the same for windows though...
I remember my old 2009-2010 HP Compaq 8000 Elite Small Form Factor PC I used to use had an old 160GB Samsung HDD, 4GB Ram, and an Intel Core 2 Duo (and also an old ATI Radeon I think?). For a while it was fine, but then it slowed down more and more until one day back in August 2022, it stopped working, and a few months later, I (think I) put it in the garage, or threw it out or something, and I replaced it with a used 2015 MacBook Air with a 512GB SSD, and 8GB of RAM. I wrote this comment with the MacBook I just mentioned.
Yeah, things do wear out over time. The mid 2010s processors still are holding up pretty well though, so hopefully this one lasts you many years to come!
@@Val9kIsTaken my 2009 hp is gone. the hard drive failed (i think), i threw it out because i don't really know how to fix a computer, and i replaced it with a 2015 macbook air in december 2022. (it is currently july 3rd, 2023)
For the daily basics running Linux and i3wm yeah! An SSD for emulation rocks! DOS MUGEN with the docking station and the db25 port still on, allows you to plug a psx or SNES joystick easily.
Besides an ssd and CPU upgrade , An lcd upgrade will make an older machines nicer to use. You will likely need to find a dual channel lvds/screen cable for a full hd screen. 4gb ddr2 modules are expensive and likely to be counterfeit (unbranded/recycled modules with brand name labels) I find a good source for cheap 4gb sticks is older imacs, people were more likely to slash out on a 4gb stick to max then out at 6gb. Pull the 4gb stick replace it with a 2gb module and sell the imac on again with 4gb for pretty much the same price.
my dad just bought me this laptop, he said "use it for doing word or powerpoint on the go, don't use it for game!", but i still tried to game on it. mine came with P8600, 4GB RAM and 500GB spinny bois with w10 64bit :D it can't run P3P from gamepass since this laptop doesn't have dx12, but it can run P3P on PPSSPP surprisingly well at 2x render without any slowdown.. it can playback youtube at 720p60 max, but only 480p for live stream, i've Test watch 720p60 stream on twitch and the cpu goes up to 100% instantly and became very laggy.. oh and the touchpad sucks
For $100 you could probably just get an older HP ProBook and an ssd, some new thermal paste too. I have a 2012 model with the AMD GPU and it's suprisingly performant for a 10 year old lapop. Can't say that much about a 10 year old phone to be sure.

I have a hp dv5000 with nvidia that was pretty pricey back in 2006, i have upgraded to an ssd, max ram, and a intel t7600. It is a much capable notebook in 2023
Nice!
Have to clarify myself, 720p 30fps. 60 fps is too stuttery for me.
@@peterbalogh8850That's fair, not having 64 bit raises some serious compatibility concerns.
The problem is not the CPU, Core 2 Duo are still capable processors, but the real issue is the graphic chip (Intel 945 in most Core 2 Duo laptops is useless today).
a t430 will wipe the floor with it entirely
I'm still using a Toshiba laptop with a Pentium t4300 dual core, 3GB DDR2, with an HDD, and was Never Upgraded. Came with Windows Vista 32bit, recently put Lubuntu 64 bit on it. RUclips, HBO Max, and Netflix still runs very well on it and page loading speeds are still quite fast but there are some limitations on it when it comes to modern browsing on this old machine
Got a Vostro for free & installed an SSD & went from a P8600 to a T9600 & used Noctua NT-H1 thermal paste. Never goes above 70*c
(it is currently july 3rd, 2023)
how is my pc crappier than this😭😭
For the daily basics running Linux and i3wm yeah!
An SSD for emulation rocks!
DOS MUGEN with the docking station and the db25 port still on, allows you to plug a psx or SNES joystick easily.
My laptop at the mo is a HP Chromebook 11 G5 running Windows 10 22H2, it's often dog slow but it gets the job done too. Paid 55 dollars for it XD
That's not even a core 2 duo
@@cities_aviv yeah it isn’t
My first laptop/computer was a core2duo!
Besides an ssd and CPU upgrade , An lcd upgrade will make an older machines nicer to use.
You will likely need to find a dual channel lvds/screen cable for a full hd screen.
4gb ddr2 modules are expensive and likely to be counterfeit (unbranded/recycled modules with brand name labels)
I find a good source for cheap 4gb sticks is older imacs, people were more likely to slash out on a 4gb stick to max then out at 6gb.
Pull the 4gb stick replace it with a 2gb module and sell the imac on again with 4gb for pretty much the same price.
7:14 for a old laptop with a old discrete gpu you've should tested a old version of premiere or vegas just to see how it was...
my dad just bought me this laptop, he said "use it for doing word or powerpoint on the go, don't use it for game!", but i still tried to game on it. mine came with P8600, 4GB RAM and 500GB spinny bois with w10 64bit :D
it can't run P3P from gamepass since this laptop doesn't have dx12, but it can run P3P on PPSSPP surprisingly well at 2x render without any slowdown.. it can playback youtube at 720p60 max, but only 480p for live stream, i've Test watch 720p60 stream on twitch and the cpu goes up to 100% instantly and became very laggy.. oh and the touchpad sucks
Be a rebel and flex on your dad by playing psp emulator with Xbox controller lol
@@m.zahiruddinmohhar6492 I played GT and P3p on this laptop when I'm too lazy to get up to my main pc lol
For $100 you could probably just get an older HP ProBook and an ssd, some new thermal paste too. I have a 2012 model with the AMD GPU and it's suprisingly performant for a 10 year old lapop. Can't say that much about a 10 year old phone to be sure.
core 2 duo's are fast still or mostly fast with linux without system d.
however I'd aim these days for even cheap machines to have 4 threads minimum. It is just way more comfortable
Even in 2022 we aren’t even using all 6 or 8 cores for most things and Intel has made everyone go for a strong single core performance
True!
Intel are still good in 2023, no matter how old that is! even a ancient Intel are very good for basic things in 2023
i still have E6400 and im still using Windows 10 with SSD as well. working smooth. but my main problem its ram 4GB.
I have Intel core Duo P8700 2.53GHz, a little faster than P8600, It has 4gb of RAM and a 320GB HDD but it’s fast I guest I need to change the HDD for a SSD in 5 months or more.
My Core 2 duo 1.66 GHZ Laptop is now running Linux mint XFCE 21.3 about to change to SSD today and that old 5400 RPM Mechanical HDD as a secondary via cable I have. SSD should be faster and run XFCE really nice
Thinkmods expresscard to nvme adapter has a built in micro sd card with clover to boot from nvme.
Me using core 2 duo e7500 for years. Yeah sometimes it crashes in Photoshop because of 4gb ram and procccessor. But still usable. But remember NOT AT ALL FOR 4K VID RENDERING AND GAMING. CUZ IT WILL EVEN RUN MINECRAFT CLASSIC IN 2FPS
yes very much with a deboater tool, now runs super smooth on hard drive with unity running very smoothly, also having an ssd will make unity run at a 120 fps lol i have a e7500 and 4gb ram and g41 graphics with media graphics accelarator
I have intel core 2 duo P8700 it is decent for normal use, it has an HDD but I want to buy and SSD for it
I would love to know about this mysterious laptop that runs source twice as good.🤔
I have a laptop like this my dad bought in 2009 for 700 $ but now it's dog it has 2gbram ddr2 and the same cpu you put with 233 ssd
HI, I have a collection of pc's etc, but my daily driver is still a core2duo i purchased new in 2013 - Lenovo Thinkcentre G3220
It does everything flawless, it is totally silent only on extremely hot summers he fan will come on for about 2 minutes then stop for a hour
Win 10, youtube is all fine, no lag even compared to my I5 4th gen and I7 6th gen other machines
The only time it shows is age is windows updates - the updates and defender chew up a lot of one core, having a similar age machine in I5 ( 2010 HP Laptop I5 2nd Gen ) or the other i5 4th gen you do not notice when updates or defender is running
Want to go faster - Linux Mint or similar
Would i purchase another core2duo - No i have one it runs fine, i could buy one if it had all the drivers for a Win XP machine for older games, but for the money i would spend, to buy a core2duo i can easily get a I5 4th or 5th gen complete machine - or worse case senario pay another $20
Regards
George
Linux Mint Debian Edition 32bit Cinnamon running on my mom's two core 2 Dells (4gb RAM and dated 5600rpm drives). Quick. Responsive. I do not mind maintaining them. Windows XP/7 on the same PCs were dreadful. If you have 32bit 2GB RAM systems, try Bunsen Labs 32 bit Linux based on Debian 11. You will like it.
For me best c2duo laptop is paired with Nvidia/amd GPU.My Dell latitude d830 with Nvidia Quadro nvs 140m still can handle Minecraft with some mods 40fps+
that's funny how I watch this with low 2009 laptop features.
Deskops PC are useally cheaper than Laptop. Even a modern one. Im throw with Windows 10 (And activated used mas), its doing pretty good job with a Intel Duo e7330, 4gb ram ddr2 (800mhz) and a hd5450 1gb. It even ran newer games (sometimes crashed depends). But for basic things like Webbrowsing (Using Firefox) its quicker than i tought, should be the SSD i using on Windows 10
So not only Laptops doing its Good Job after throw a SSD with it, PCs are usable aswell! Just a cheap SSD is more than enough
I have linux mint xfce on on old n4000 duel core laptop with two threads and 1ghz to 2.6 ghz or so. It throttles up as needed. Anyway 64gb hd and 4gb ram. So it is usable but it is little more than a net book and will not run newer psx emulators and some psp roms.
I have a similar spec netbook, actually yours is slightly better, it runs windows 10 and the cpu is at 100% 80%-90% of the time lol
Hola, que modelo es?
Es un Latitude e5500.
I have acer extensa, core 2 duo, ot gets stuck and most of the time, tabs on chrome are not responding. I want to get rid of it and make my laptop fast without getting stuck. What to do?
Try reinstalling windows. It may just be lots of apps and other things slowing it down.

No, not yet actually! It's pretty impressive how well it works for such an old machine.
I have a T9600 and oh boy is HOT
Can you change the cpu to whatever core 2 cpu you can get or is it specific like compatible with t7500 and p8600 nothing like the t6600 is compatible shenanigans
I just want to know since i want to get one of those core 2 q9000 or 9100
I doubt this can do 720p 60 RUclips videos
nice "review", but for feedback: please buy a new mic. Sometimes your voice is too loud, I lower the volume on my pc and after some time you are barely hearable and I have to crank up the volume again just to be yelled at after a minute
Yeah, I ended up buying one after other problems; the newer videos should sound much better.
that laptop better than my laptop ;-;
i have a dell latidude e6510 and came here to see valorant gonna work wwith a 10 years old laptop XD
God, you need to upgrade that ram
perhaps, it was one of the weak points of the computer.
Yeah, all that hasle, and leave that out ??? Manualy fsTrimm can help, up to 30 gigs of swap space. And for people looking to buy one, onboard vram could be nice, and led backlit screen "is" preferable over ccfl, even though they can be pretty good too).
He could upgrade to 4GB, but he could also get a lightweight Linux distro.

No way
Run Linux on it
why did you use Windows 10, and not a linux Lite?? You can get a newer Linux OS and uses Windows Application through Wine. That same laptop I have and with Linux Installed, My laptop runs 10X faster than what you have in this video. Clearly you really don't know nothing about OS's. Gen Z'ers SMFH
