@@goncaloaraujo6644 Don’t think they retain much, as a former Chinese who had a few precious years attending school in that charming city its heartbreaking.
Great video Ben, being Portuguese I've always had an interest of visiting Macau watching this and still being able to recognise the architecture, signs and food from my small country in a place on the other side of the world makes me extremely proud of our history
Glad to have seen you finally visit Macau! As a Chinese, Macau is one of my favourite cities in the world, it’s a fusion of the Oriental and Western culture. ❤❤ Love your videos!
Absolutely love your investigative videos man you are really setting yourself apart on my recommended! Always click on a new upload without hesitating 😂 thanks for the education!
Thanks for your video Ben. Macau has fallen into tough times - it wasn't like this pre-pandemic and 10 years ago. I live close to Macau and keep hearing how it's become almost another situation of the death of the high street where many shops and restaurants have closed down in a lot of the supposed touristy and busy places. It just isn't thriving, booming and growing anywhere as it once was and that's a shame since it has such a rich, interesting and fascinating history involving Portugal for example. A real gem in Asia that a lot of people don't know about.
Macau is somewhere I’ve always been intrigued to visit in China and as always Ben makes a great video! Love how you always manage to spotlight the locals too and what they go through!
I’m trying to meet more locals in my travels and make friends around the world!! I’d also love to film a video in China, I’m so fascinated by the country
I've been watching since your delivering on ubereats in London days or even earlier and I have to say the filming quality, the cultural respect, the story telling... it has just gone THROUGH the roof. Your vids are awesome, your work is great entertainment but also very inspirational to create and get better.
Someone in Las Vegas designed a casino resort that resembles the Houses of Parliament, but it was scrapped probably due to not having sufficient money to build it.
Absolute joy watching your videos and experiencing different cultures. I would love to travel myself and you do a great job in exploring and vlogging the experience
Ben you come up with great ideas me your vids. You are also so cute and innocent and so nice to people when you meet them you seem like a genuine guy !!
Thank you so much for this amazing content! You inspire thousands of people that want to travel around! I am so glad that I found your channel! When you come to Brazil?
my beautiful hometown 🥰 just came back from it and miss it already I am glad you enjoyed the historical and cultural side of Macau 😊 it is a pitty that you did not have more time to explore the city of Macau and the old Taipa and Coloane villages
Anyone from East and SE Asia, and expats living abroad all know about Macau, and it's been a gambling mecca for decades, even when the territory was under Portuguese rule. One of the biggest influences from Portugal is the egg custard tart, which made its way to Hong Kong and has become the dim sum staple in Cantonese staple for decades. You can find the HK Egg Custard and the Macanese version throughout most Chinese communities around the world.
I visited Macau in 2017 what an amazing place it was still under construction and not a lot of people have heard about it but we took the ferry/speed boat was scary on the way back to HK as tides were so high people were throwing up LOL but yeah really expensive place.
I went on the same Business class British Airways flight as you! Didn´t come say hi but congrats on the youtube stuff really enjoying it! I live in Macao its truly the casino city.
Like when the British took Hong Kong, the Portuguese took Macau on the other side of the river. Macau was ceeded around the time of the opium wars I think, but had Portuguese on the land way before. The territories are linked by bridges and tunnels now so you can drive to Macau from Hong Kong. I think the Chinese took a softer touch to Macau than Hong Kong post reunification. Great video.
I grew up in Hong Kong. Macau is one of the holiday destinations that Hong Kongers tend to frequent during the summer holidays. I've been a couple of times, although I don't remember much if anything from it. I certainly don't remember any of the places you've been to, which appear very modern by comparison. How was the ferry ride? I've done the ferry ride a few times. Never managed to avoid throwing up ...
I'd only heard of Macau before due to the road racing circuit. Never knew about all the Casinos until I did a day trip from Hong Kong a few years ago. The architecture on the casinos blew me away.
Ben, consider at some point to visit Kazakhstan🇰🇿 I’d love to show you around the places, since your passion of travelling is taking you all over the world. Would be great to meet you🤝🏽
Really interesting and informative video. Been watching your content for years, like when you used to pull pranks on your brother, and think you do the best travel videos because they are informative ant entertaining.
I went to Macau years ago, biggest thing I noticed was the size iof the minimun bets. In the US you can bet a buck at a time and spend all night going through your money. In Macau its HK$100 a time at the cheapest tables, but most people I saw were playing Baccarat for $1000 a time; no messing about, people are here to gamble. Not sure if it is still the same, but when I was there, mainland Chinese could only visit once a year, and sometimes a person would bet for a whole village. Also the Portuguese egg tarts...
Thank you for the video. But you hardly brought back those fond memories. Fleeing from China, my family spent some years in HK and Macau before we left Asia altogether. As a teen in this lovely tranquil Portughese colony in the late fifties, there was only one casino which no one under 18 could enter…it so saddens me to see this blatant transformation of a simple and quiet place into a major SIN city in the world. We revisited but could hardly find our ways.😢
You know what’s crazy, my mind went straight to macao. I didn’t even think of vegas, and I’ve never even been to China. I thought this was just common knowledge
Interesting. I did not know about this place. I recently moved to Vegas even though I am not crazy about gambling. I'm sure there are more things to do here than gamble, or at least I hope so. Interesting video.
Not a fan of gambling. Listen to Oliver she has seen it all. Love being exposed to a city I know nothing about. An interesting fusion of the Chinese and Western cultures. Not sure the Western gambling addiction is a favourable exchange. The temples were stunning. That alone would be worth the visit. Nice video Ben.
Both HK and Macau are special administrative regions within China having distinct rules and laws compared with the Mainland So all social media (Instagram, WhatssApp, Facebook, X, etc) and Google apps are accessible

for close to 6000 years people have been living in that place and colonization of that place by portugal is what makes it great.

Macau isn't exactly as unknown as he says. It's one of the most popular cities here in Asia and I'm sure a lot of Westerners know about it too.
I'm binge watching your channel. Good video; Miles explained it accurately about Vegas being more entertainment.
