3ds Max 2024.2 is a big update in all departments, With a new conform modifier, that is not like any other conform modifier, improvements in booleans, in splines, DCM, important boost performance in vol. select, push, relax, retopology, skinning and others.
Improvements in animation with a new QT motion pannel with revamped menus, more flexible and with more options, fixes in CAT and Biped. Improvements in the material editor, in color management, and way, way more!

Seriously, the entire 2024 edition and its updates have been awesome with continued stream of core improvements. Good job!
Great to see animaiton getting some new focus from the devs. Thank GOD after all these years they finally updated that tiny little Assign Controller window! Nice to see Biped getting some new updates too.
The Assign Controller tab finally feels like it belongs to a modern software, it's so user-friendly now it speeds up my workflow a lot, and time is money. One of my favourite updates in 2024.2!

Good update. I hope they work on animations department a little more. I want them to improve Biped alot more because when its rotation is set to euler there are few bugs while saving the animation and a better view maybe for the TCB Controls in Quaternion if they are not thinking about improving the Euler rotations. Improving the workbench and curve system etc
And Animation Layers! Maya's implementation is superior in every way, time to change that.
@@AForsyth I really want to stick to Max, it have the potential i know but they need to keep up in every department specifically animations and viewport in general in order to compete with blender or maya or any other 3d package in the market right now.
So many amazing updates! I wish we could get some love to the cloth modifier. I don't know weather it's just me, but its very slow and could really use cuda support
I think Cloth modifier should be completely rewritten, for speedups, accuracy and not least the UI which is horrible. I almost forget how to set up sims between every time I use it because it is such a bad UI.
@@joachimart It can be difficult, yes. I see that they are trying to provides as much flexibility as humanly posiible, but they should seriously re-release the whole tool with new more intuitive UI , features and speedups.
Yes! Cloth, Fluids and Hair&Fur. That would be such a big boost to Max as a package.

Isn't there some hack to achieve these effects in Biped? I recall reading somwhere that's possible.
Yes there is a script where you can mimic this, but it takes time and it's with a spinner, it's not ideal, the best would be to have it natively.@@F10F11hm
Good news. thanks. the most interesting thing to me was making the hand wrap using the shrink wrap. I hope someone make a tutorial how to do that.

They need to get to the core of Edit Poly modeling tools much sooner than they intend too. Those are the meat and potatoes and starting to show their age and all of them need to leverage the new tech provided by smart extrude and auto retopo.
I ran into a problem when using MultiTile material and using Arnold everything renders well, but only with the help of the CPU and if you turn on GPU support, then it stops reflecting UDIM textures, what is the problem, please tell me version 3dmax 2024.0

I also have an open question for anyone. Where can I find thorough (paid or free) tutorials teaching character animation of the biped rig. I'm not looking for rigging. So far, all that I've found are seemingly out dated tutorials and they all cover the same hand full basics. I'm looking for indepth courses covering what I'd consider a confusing and overly complicated platform 3ds max has. I've searched autodesk learning sites, which were useless, as usual. I've also looked at skillshare, also useless.

update crashed my customized user interface and i have to reset the whole app to default factory settings than it worked until i restarted windows now i couldnt use ribbon tools :-(

Blender doesn't have Edit Mesh modifier 🙃
Boolean, Array, Shrinkwrap mod in Blebder are definitely subpar now. Even the old conform objects versions were more feature rich and worked better with other max tools than what was already there in Blender as modifiers

Blender is great as hobbie, or for concept. But it's really problematic software for general pipeline

Has been a lot of effort to make max viewports and modifiers faster and faster. So yes. Nax 2024 is the best and faster max so far.
@@andvfx thank you so much! I stuck with max 2017 due to the enormous number of plugins and scripts I have already installed and the short keys. Setting any new max to look and work like my 2017 right now, is mission impossible, it would take days and days...I do not have so much time...if you know some script and plugins and short cut keys migration master maybe that could be an idea for some next video? Thanks for your effort, best!

Maya has much, much, MUCH better advertising compared to Max, even by Autodesk itself.. it always gets the spotlight in the VFX industry. Why? Internal politics, probably. It also has better overall animation tools for advanced character animation and is widely used for this purpose.
great video - i jsut wish autodesk would fix the slowness of the UI, mainly the material editor.

they must add these nearly 10 years ago. but at least here we go.
The performance of the new conform modifier is so overwhelmingly superior that it would be unfair to say it should have been released 10 years ago.
Of course, the fixes to biped and CAT should have been made 10 years ago...
the conform modifier on multiple objects is ahead of everyone as far as i know
It uses Intel Embree Tech, which seems to to be fairly recent, for the Conform algorithm, so I doubt it could have been made 10 years ago.
Intel Embree is a high-performance ray tracing library developed at Intel which supports x86 CPUs under Linux, macOS, and Windows, etc.
Here we go, Finally autodesk deiced to try saving its software, but I fear it's too late, I teach 3D modelling and rendering at architecture and product design and we switched last year to blender, if autodesk do not
change its business model at the core it will never compete with free competitors, no matter the level of the new features, at least in the architectural and product design field

@@riccardofoschi Sure. From 10 to 12 is also "more". Tell me 10 even medium studio names that uses Blender as main program. Tangent is gone. So, don't tell me Tangent.
In the arcviz a lot of small studios are switching, of course most studios are still using 3d max, but the reason is mainly due to habits not actual convenience, in the archviz blender is perfectly capable of doing all things that 3d max or maya do but with 0 costs which small studios actually care a lot about.
@@riccardofoschi Do yo have a proof? No. How many is "a lot of"? 5? Blender certainly doesn't provide same capability as Max. It has less features and most features are half-baked. There are no plugins to compensate. There is are many good asset to buy. The only reason to choose Blender is the cost. But, guess what? If a studio need to worry about Max cost, you better work for somewhere else.
3ds max needs cosmos tree and people are auto animation.

10 Years later, 1000 new modifiers. Hopefully, 3dsmax has those as "Preset" of MCG. Autodesk better provides new features that let users do sth so broadly. Then make "Presets" for most use case. Exp: Physical material with procedural texture of wood, concrete etc. Drag and Drop and done! Save lots of time.
To gain 3dsmax user, make things as simple as possible. Not more complex for newbies. Let's see Enscape render, compare to Arnold. Or make as PresetMode or AdvancedMode. I don't know... See how fast of blender going as well.
yup ! 15 years of 3ds ... news are depressing really compared to blender ... this soft is just dying slowly ... tyflow is the thing keeping it alive for two more years ! Thx Tyson Ibele, the only real deal about 3ds in 7 years !

I dont understand why we have biped and cat ?? Thats insane. Why keep video post that hasn't changed since 90s.. can we get better sculpting tools like blender has? Canvas painting is also slow and obsolete.
Where's the improved manual retopo tools? Max has horrible retopo tools compared to Maya

so it’s a fast conform modifier … ok so we re still committed to maybe the worst UI still in development. And at least they’re trying to fix the bloat problem. good ol max files always 300mb for no reason
Looking at lots and lots of Blender tutorials and functions it seems that 3ds max has been officially eaten away by it. And its free and load fast. Nice additions but everything is too late now..

@@kevinkim8723 to still have a consequent fanbase that keep the software up to date and strong compared to other choices ... We never could rely on autodesk since they bought 3ds from discreet. Just look at the pace at which houdini and blender, their respective fanbase, the use of these tools in the industry and the features provided at each updates ... 3ds development kick just happened but 4 or more years to late... It speaks for itself ! Now let's history tell but I doubt newcomers will go for paid and outdated 3ds instead of free blender or leading fx solution houdini. 🤷
AUTODESK, your time has come, you are annihilated, your releases every year are laughable, you stay afloat because the big studios still use Maya as a basis for character creation, and every year you make very laughable updates, but now that Papa Houdini has arrived, You no longer have any way to compete with him, you are finished.

Btw Conform in Blender is like 10 to 15 times slower than Max for the same operation...
And Max has even a faster mode that is like 25~ or more times faster than blenders... it is another league...
But I like that Blender is pushing hard!! thanks to that we have better Max, keep it up!
