  • Black women are two to three times more likely than white women to develop uterine fibroids. Why? No one really knows.

    Thank you sharing your story. It is quite often women go to these doctors requesting for certain exams to be conducted based on this fear and often time we are talked out of what’s not necessarily needed to be done. Most of these doctors need to stop treating us this way and should honor our requests because it’s our bodies and we know what we feel in them.

      @Karena Jones before you have your surgery, please consider asking your doctor about another alternative. There may be a way that you can spare your uterus and ovaries, but still get rid of the fibroids. There’s a minimum surgical procedure that blocks the blood vessels supplying the blood to the tumors. Some experts call this procedure “Fibroid Artery Embolization”, or FAE.
      Millions of women have successfully had this procedure for over the past twenty years or so. Many have continued to bear children after having FAE. This procedure is often performed under the guidance of a radiologist. Only two very small slits are cut into the abdominal pelvic area: one for a tiny camera and the other for small surgical instruments. So recovery is very rapid. Most patients may have only an overnight hospital stay for observation, and can return to work, school or their normal routine and schedules within a couple of days. Best of all, the fibroids shrink down dramatically, the pain is relieved, and the heavy periods stop.
      If you want to avoid major surgery, please get some other medical opinions if your current doctor doesn’t agree to consider you for this procedure. I wish you all the best Karena Jones and my prayers are with you and your family. 🙏🏾

      After 40 when you know you don’t want any more children … ( there’s also adoption). Fibroid Artery Embolization did NOT HELP ME nor many other of my friends who also had the procedure! The bleeding slowed BUT THE PAIN was worst . Pain so severe getting in the way of work & life! Finally finding a Surgeon to do my Hysterectomy was the only way if relief. Never felt better. side note: bring God into whatever Surgical Procedure you decide! Prayer works!

      I have 3-5 fibroids. Every hospital I go to, they tell me I can't work after the surgery for 4-6 weeks. I don't have anyone to take care of me. And I can't be without work for that long.
      I am 44 & I look pregnant and I hate it, but my options are limited.
      I have had three blood transfusions.

Clean 🧼 your house extra good before your surgery… Wash clothes, mop, vacuum sweep 🧹clean & do everything! stock up your fridge have plenty of ready made drinks stocked. Keep your phone charged & on you at all times. Taxi Uber to your check ups! ( and as an extra .. I got my hair done 💇🏽‍♀ beforehand too) Put 2 sets of clean sheets on your bed so all u have to do week 1 Is rip off old & new is already to go 🙂and lay back down.

    Ovarian cysts are different from fibroids, most of the women in mg family, myself and most of my female friends have had ovarian cysts. And I'm sure the older women too but back in the day there wasn't any sonograms. We know now because of sonogram machines because if not, they would have just diagnosed it as a random stomach pain. They usually come in your mid/late teenage years. It must be something about the hormones because they got better after I started using birth control pills and got pregnant. Milk has steroids in them so that coupled with hormones must affect the ovaries.

    • @Vickyjohnson5
      @Vickyjohnson5 Год назад +2

      I used to think this but it isn’t true. Black women simply produce more estrogen than other women. Fibroids are a hormone issue. I’ve never had relaxers and just found out I had a large fibroid - Chinese women and Indian women also have issues with fibroids- ancient Chinese medicine has helped many women decrease their fibroids but it takes a lot of time 😩

      P.S for those of you ready to comment on my age and child bearing, save it. I'm well aware of my age. I chose to get married later so by default I've chosen to deal with what comes with having children at my age.
