I also keep this card. Travel in & out of New York several times (3+ Xs) a year, usually Newark. Departing airport is Austin. In Austin, United Club is closed is (typically, take early AM flight (least chance of delay). In Newark, for past few years, either closed (plandemic) or REFUSE entry for single pass entry - claim too full "at capacity" ... as I watch MULTIPLE peeps stroll in to the lounge! The 25% discount is appreciated.
I fly thru EWR all the time, I've never experienced that myself, but I do know what you mean with the "plandemic." That one club has been under construction for like 6 years haha
Hi Lani! Very nice and informative video! Within the last year, I got the United Club card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve. I live in a hub city of AA and have next to the highest level of elite status; however, been thinking about trying out United in the near future - it has been years since I’ve flown with them but always had good service. Curious . . . Do you have elite status with UA? I’ve been thinking about trying out UA again as I’ve been very impressed with the news I’ve read about UA lately, and I’ve been very pleased with the service that Chase offers. I also like the fact that UA credit card holders are Group 2 boarding. With AA, credit card holders are Group 4, I believe, and with Delta, Group 6. Again, great video!
Hey, Rob! Thanks for your comment and question. Also, both great cards, IMO. On top of being a card holder, yes, I also have elite status. Every year I am either Platinum or 1K. Status+cardholder make sure I get every perk and benefit when I fly, plus you're right, their service is great. I never have an issue. Which is why I continue to fly with them. Same with Chase if I ever have an issue when I book thru the travel portal. If you haven't done so already, make sure to subscribe and stay in touch, as I have more tips to share! I appreciate it! You're welcome, Jake! That's nothing compared to the other tips and trick on the way. Make sure to subscribe and stay in touch! Thanks for the comment!

Appreciate you stopping by, Anthony! United and Delta can get you pretty much everywhere you want to go. If you haven't done so already, make sure to subscribe! And stay in touch!

100% agree. I need my overhead bin space as I'm tall, so need the room under the seats for my legs haha! Thanks for the comment! Would appreciate if you subscribed if you have no done so already, and stay in touch!
@@greggrant20 The safest answer is yes. In the event United has changed some rules (as I've been in group 1 due to status for a while). I will double check this and respond again here, but I have purchased tickets with miles, with points via a travel portal and, even my corporate card and still been in group 2 as the card is attached to my United Flyer profile. Just make sure your reservation is linked to your account. Thanks for the comment. Make sure to subscribe as I have more on the way!
@@greggrant20 depends, my experience is, if the ticket is directly bought with United, it will be associated to G2 automatically regardless whether you are purchasing this ticket using this card or not. But if it is, say, a partner ticket, like from star alliance, it won't.
You should mention the mileage plus portal benefits as well. Some great offers for on there to earn those extra and if you use your United card, almost like double dipping
You're 100% correct. Only because I mentioned the shopping portals and dining in a different video and those portals are not a specific reason to why I keep this card I left it off this video. But yes, the portals area great way to stack extra points/miles! Thanks for the comment. If you haven't done so already, make sure to subscribe as I have other tips to get extra points as well! Loved point #5 about the lounges and that’s why I want the United explorer card for that reason the United club lounge . I see more United Club lounges in Airports so that why I want chase card
100%! United Clubs are just convenient. They are close and never too packed. The newer ones are really nice! I was just in the brand new one at Chicago/ORD a few weeks ago
You convinced me-it's a keeper card! Do you churn the SUB every 24 months? (Back in the day, I churned Amex Delta cards so much that I was an OG member of pop-up jail.) I'm with you airline lounges > card lounges > priority pass lounges. Airlines' are always near your gate! When you check in, Delta gives you flight status-there are flight status monitors in the lounge.
Happy to hear, Chad! I have not churned this card in fear I couldn't get it back (ie 5/24). Yes United has flight status monitors in every lounge that I've been to (club and Polaris).
Depends on the benefit. If for free chacked bag or Group 2 boarding, you can book with Miles and pay taxes with card. It's best to have your card added to your account and book directly with United. When I've done this, I've never had an issue. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the detailed explanation. In order to get the free baggage allowance: Do I need to book the entire ticket using the card or can I use miles and pay only the taxes using this card?
Yes. If you book with miles and use the card to pay for the taxes, you'll still get the free checked bag. Thanks for watching. Subscribe and stay in touch. I have another United video coming soon. Talk soon
Great information thank you for share. Can you do one on American Airlines AAdvantage platinum select. Maybe comparing them…. This video is one of the best available on this card very detailed much appreciated.
Thanks for the compliment and watching, JT. I don't have the AA card, but that could be a great vid idea. Regarding this card, make sure to Subscribe and stay in touch, I have another video coming soon that continues to dive deeper on this card and it's unknown value. Talk soon!
Thank you for the great info and really enjoyed the video! Do you have to use the explorer card and book with United to get the free checked bag ? Or can you purchase the checked bag at the airport and get it reimbursed at statement credit ? I have the CSP and sometimes I use points to book a flight and seeing how I can get the checked bag cheaper per round trip! Thanks in advance !
Hey, Justin! Yes, to get the free bag, (per the rules) you would need to book and pay directly with United via their site and pay with the United card. You can still fully book with miles on their site and get the bag waived too. Now I know very close friends and others who have used points/miles from 3rd party site and asked at the counter for it to be waived by the agent at check-in and have had success, but this is not guaranteed. If you fly often and can get to their minimum Silver status, you will also get 1 free checked bag. This way, if you decide to use points via Chase portal, you're covered. Also, you could have the United card, transfer your CSP points to United then book via miles (even without status). This would be best of bost worlds. Thanks for the comment! If you haven't done so already make sure to subscribe! I have a similar "never gonna cancel" video like this coming up for my Sapphire card. So stay in touch! Appreciate it!
Awesome! Congrats on the move! It's a great card for me. Thanks for stopping by. Subscribe and stay in touch! I'll have more on this card in the near future
Hey Bernadine! Well, yes/no. you're not able to transfer your United miles from this card to another partner but there is still a way. You can book travel through Star Alliance partners via United website and use miles, cash, or a combo of both when you do. I know this part is yes to your question, If you do book a trip and the 1st leg is United then after connecting take another airline (i.e. Lufthansa), then yes, I have received the perks for the entire leg. I have never fully book a partner airline thru United site or star Alliance site, so I'm not for sure all the flight perks will work. But if you have status like Gold or above with United, then you status will cover you for all Star Alliance partners. I hope that helps. Also, thanks for your comment. If you haven't done so already, Subscribe and stay in touch! I appreciate you stopping by!
Great video Lani! I don't have an airline card and was thinking about this or the Gateway card since my home airport is EWR and tend to fly United more than other airlines. How does the free checked bag work? Do you need to use the card to book the flight in order to receive it?
You're "supposed" to. When I use a different card, at time of check-in, I have just shown the card and the agent waived my bag fee. I usually don't have an issue. Same for any of my friends that have the card. But I have to say that this is an exception, not the rule. You're supposed to use the card to get the bag auto waived without an issue. Thanks for the question. Make sure to subscribe if you have not done so already! Appreciate it!.
I Love United and their hub is SFO which is where I fly out of but I can’t get the benefits since my style of travel is different. I only take one backpack with me (Carry On Only) so I can’t get any benefit from the bag credit. I get Global Entry thru other cards. I may look into the United Club perk tho I never really thought about it. Btw can you tell me why you have the reserve instead of the Preferred? I had the Reserve for Years! But I downgraded it and applied for and got the welcome bonus for the Preferred. I also have the Venture X which after all the easy credits has a zero annual free. With both of those cards I effectively pay $45 a year in Annual fees but I get lounge access and everything that was important to me with the Reserve which had a $250 effective annual fee
Hey, Jaymeez! Great question. My United status alone overshadows the card lol. I have the CSR and my wife has the CSPreferred. We split the perks and benefits in our house across the 2 so we have the best of both worlds. In addition, we combine points to get the 1.5 redemption when needed, and the free $300 travel credit. But because I actually use the United Club Passes. It's cheaper to pay the $95 annual fee vs. buying 2 passes. That and the 25% discount comes in handy.
Hey, Kim! I saw this. Even United did not make it very clear, but this could be a great video idea. Let me see if I can simplify it in a way that's easier to understand.
Great video. I have an authorized user question for this card . If u are an AU . would you and your primary card owner both get two Lounge passes a year ? Meaning 4 total?
No you will not. But what I did personally is refer my Player 2 to the card, being that the annual fee is waived the 1st year. The lounge passes come instantly, so we have 4 free every year. We both still have the card to this day. Thanks for the question. If you haven't done so already, subscribe and stay in touch. More info is on the way! I'm actually about like this for another card I'll never cancel. Appreciate it!
I will refer my wife ( player 2 ) to the card. Unfortunately, I believe I'm in Chase jail for another 1.5 years due to the 5/24 rule that Chase employees seem to know nothing about, lol
Haha! No comment there. But for 5/24, you may be able to get approved for the United Business card. Same annual fee (waived 1st year as well), and you'll still get 2 Club Passes
Unfortunately the business card is less rewards but having to spend more money. As long as I'm an AU on my wife's card, we should be good. And yes. I was subscriber 408
@@itsofficialj Yup. I understand. Just wanted to provide an additional option. AU is still a good plan. Appreciate you being a subscriber and supporter! Talk soon
We are interested in the card. The biggest issue is that the AU has to travel with the primary card holder to get any of the same. Admittities. Free bags , lounge access, etc.... grrrr. I'm in chase jail but my player 2 isn't. I travel more then she does , so the plan was to get this card add me as an AU so I can gain status, get free bags and lounge access etc ... nope ! Lol
Gotcha. Well if she does get the card she can give you her club passes. They don't have to be used by the account owner. And if you can get to Gold status with United or get it from another Star Alliance partner you can still get a free checked bag. I know it's extra work, but can get you some of the perks before your 2 years are up
I have been with Delta for over a decade and high medallion status. I am getting tired for how expensive Delta for international trips vs United or American. Delta one to Korea around 17k ... outrages. If I fly Korean or Asiana it is 10k less. I am.thinking to switch to United. Can I move status from Delta to United?
Not for sure. Sorry that I do not have an official answer to this question. I will say that United does do status match offers and they are battling delta (at least on a marketing level) at the moment to get people to switch. I recommend calling United and seeing what they will do. If you do call, subscribe and keep in touch. Id love to hear their response to you. Thanks!
Hi, I am thinking of getting this card. I read it will gives you access to more award availability. Is there that much more award availability with this card? Even in business class flights? Star alliance flights? Thanks
Great question. It does, but not in the way you think. 1) you get extra miles from any purchases on the card, 2) thru regular spending, you can get additional PQP/PQM which are categories that can help you get status faster. And with higher status, yes, you do get more awards when booking a flight (i.e. more miles). I appreciate the question. Make sure to subscribe for more details and tips, and if you do choose to get the card, I have my referral link in the video description. Helps a lot!
so if you book a United flight with points, do you still get the free baggage and other perks because you have the card even though you'd not be using the card to book the airfare?
The ad says, "2 United Club one-time passes per year". Now, if I buy a ticket for a family member with the miles on my card, can they use the club even if I am not accompanying them?
These 2 cards are a perfect match if you fly United. I'm going to have another video about this card soon. Subscribe so you don't miss it and if you'd like to use my referral link it would be appreciated
I have both the MileagePlus explorer and CSR cards from Chase. I normally book my travel with the CSR or Chase points. I can't figure out a way to get the free checked bag benefit from my explorer card when i use my CSR to book. Any ideas or is this not possible?
No, not really. I've heard friends/family have success with showing their card and speaking with an agent when checking in, but this is not guaranteed as it's up to the person you speak with. But if you get to Gold status with United you'll get your bag for free as long as you book directly with United, then the card you pay with doesn't matter. If your paying the flight with cash (no points/miles), use the United card. If the ticket is $300, your talking the difference of 300 miles (I e. 600 miles vs. 900 points). The $35 free bag is worth more than that $3-5 value in points difference. That would be my recommendation. But it depends on what is more important to you
It's a standard feature of the card. I've had the card for years and it's covered every time. I see what you're saying tho, unless this means it may take time to activate on your account automatically so it'll be waived those 1st 90 days.
That depends on the benefit(s) you value the most. Using the $95 annual fee (after year 1), for me, the free checked bag is for every flight I take. I have a family of 3, so 1 roundtrip flight = $210 of bag fee value (35x3 = $105, then x2 for the return flight = $210). Also the 2 club passes, that $118 in value, so on 1 trip I'm already at $328 in value. Not to mention, early boarding group to put my bag in a bin overhead and the food/wifi discounts. I take many trips a year, some vacation, some just seeing family around holidays/birthdays. So the value keeps adding up for me. Well over $95. Thanks for the question. Also, if you haven't done so already, make sure to subscribe I have a 2nd "not gonna cancel" video on another card coming out soon. Appreciate it, and stay in touch.
On United Business credit card it has a $100 United Annual Travel Credit(After making 7 United flight purchases of $100 or more in a year, you’ll receive a $100 travel credit). Do you know if making a $100 purchase of Travel Bank 7 times would count to trigger that 100$ travel credit?
Yes and no. Yes, you can always cancel a card at any time. But No, if you do so before the 1st year is up, most card companies will take back and points/miles you earned or charge you the cost of what you earned if you cancel less than one year (in the event you already used those welcome offer miles). I would recommend that you wait until the year is up and are charged the annual fee. At this point you can call in and say the card was not as you expected and you want to cancel. In most cases they provide an offer to get you to stay, like waive the annual fee or downgrade you to a card that has no annual fee. Either way you get to keep the rewards you earned. But I will add, the annual fee waiver usually does not come after the 1st year. Hope this helps. Make sure to subscribe and stay in touch!! Appreciate you!

We are interested in the card. The biggest issue is that the AU has to travel with the primary card holder to get any of the same. Admittities. Free bags , lounge access, etc.... grrrr. I'm in chase jail but my player 2 isn't. I travel more then she does , so the plan was to get this card add me as an AU so I can gain status, get free bags and lounge access etc ... nope ! Lol
how long are you in "Chase jail?"
@@CallMeLani unfortunately, just started my 2 year sentence. Was hoping my player 2 had a get out of jail free card .
Gotcha. Well if she does get the card she can give you her club passes. They don't have to be used by the account owner. And if you can get to Gold status with United or get it from another Star Alliance partner you can still get a free checked bag. I know it's extra work, but can get you some of the perks before your 2 years are up
Where I can get that youtube button : )?
It was 3D printed
Yes. In this scenario, you'd still pay the small amount of taxes with the card. But yes, they still waive the free checked bag for you in this example
The ad says, "2 United Club one-time passes per year". Now, if I buy a ticket for a family member with the miles on my card, can they use the club even if I am not accompanying them?
Yes they can. You can share and do whatever you please with your 2 passes. They just need to have a boarding pass
@@CallMeLani - thank you!
Hello Sir. I already have a CSR and just got the Freedom. I am thinking about getting United Mileageplus Explorer card to pair CSR . Thoughts?
These 2 cards are a perfect match if you fly United. I'm going to have another video about this card soon. Subscribe so you don't miss it and if you'd like to use my referral link it would be appreciated
@CallMeLani thanks! I would like to start traveling again, and choosing United makes more sense to me.
@@DYoon007 They work great for me!
Love your video, tku
Welcome & Thanks for watching! Very much appreciated!
But it depends on what is more important to you
On bag fees, In card details is says: (this purchase requirement is waived for flights during the 90 days from account opening)
It's a standard feature of the card. I've had the card for years and it's covered every time. I see what you're saying tho, unless this means it may take time to activate on your account automatically so it'll be waived those 1st 90 days.
How often do you have to travel to get any kind of value from this card?
Appreciate it, and stay in touch.
well explained

On United Business credit card it has a $100 United Annual Travel Credit(After making 7 United flight purchases of $100 or more in a year, you’ll receive a $100 travel credit).
Do you know if making a $100 purchase of Travel Bank 7 times would count to trigger that 100$ travel credit?
Not for sure as I do not have the business card or made a travel bank purchase. If so, this could be a great hack!
make a vid of this please if you ever find out XD haha thanks Lani@@CallMeLani
Can you bring your spouse with you to the lounge? Or do you have to pay $59 for her to come with?
You would have to use both of your club passes. 1 club pass per person.
Hi can I cancel the card befofe 1 year to avoid paid the annual fee ?
