Hey I have a question, so my orthodontist said I’m getting my braces off on September 4th, but they are giving me my retainers exactly a week later, will my teeth move?? I’m kind of worried 😅
Thanks for the info Doc! I wish I saw this 1.5 years ago. I should’ve visited a few orthos & gotten second opinions before settling for the first ortho I visited. I also didn’t ask a lot of questions nor did he ask what my main concerns were. Doing your proper research is so important especially since you’re paying good money for it.
Guys I’m getting braces on Thursday and I have been waiting 3 years but now it’s compulsory to wear face masks in public so now i can’t show them off :/
I’ll have my braces on Tuesday. Thank to my orthodontist’s comprehensive consultations, and many great videos of yours, my mind is at ease now. I cannot wait for the first day of my braces journey.
Luckily I had no cavities at my check up but the dentist gave me a referral to the orthodontist and they let me go the day we called! So I definitely recommend making sure you do an appointment first at the dentist!
I first had braces when I was a freshman in high school. I had refused to get teeth pulled at the time. Fast forward to years later, not getting those teeth pulled gave me complications. Not to mention my retainer didn't fit properly (Previous ortho didn't make the retainer right and it would've costed me $$$ to get it fixed/get a new pair)My back teeth never touched together and it gave me jaw pain/headaches and it was kinda difficult to chew food. My new (current) Orthodontist also recommended that I need 4 teeth pulled out. (premolars?) As my mouth was too small. Removing those teeth will also help fix my bite, as well as my front teeth being a little forward. And after the consult, I got braces put on right away. (I didn't get the wires out on till after i got my teeth pulled. Closing those gaps were a pain! Because the wire would get long and irritate/poke the back of my cheeks. Wax only did so much for me. So I had to come in sometimes just to get the wire trimmed. I have about 3ish more months left in treatment and I am loving my smile already. I hope my retainers will come out better this time.
@@imanixchanel_ Ngl they were painful and soar. But not as bad as I thought it would be. I had to wait a week or two for my gums to heal. The worst part about it was when the gaps were closing, the wire got long in the back and was so irritating. It was so difficult to eat/drink/talk. I had to go in just to get the wires cut. The gaps closed at a good rate for me. But I had to get bite blockers and elastics at the same time, a month after my teeth were pulled because I was biting on my back brackets. But after all that, it's so worth it.
@@tinydime8875 oh okay so for me i had to get 3 baby teeth pulled and i have my appointment tomorrow idk if they are going to do the procedure the same day or wait but even though i have them removed would they still put the braces on and have something there to hold the place or what would they do ?
@@imanixchanel_ Ohh wow. When I got my 4 teeth pulled, I already had braces put on prior. No wires and no brakets on the 4 teeth that needed to be pulled. It depends on your ortho. But usually they put braces on to help leave/close space. Good luck!

Crybaby Jess when you first get them on, they will feel weird, and a bit rough. And for a few days you will get some pain, if you don’t have pain ig that’s ok cuz everyone has a different pain tolerance. Eating cold foods will help with the pain! Anymore questions??
Watched this video before my last consultation last week. Then, got my braces the same day (June 28). I figured since I'm working at home for a while and met the time for insurance to pay, it would be a good time to get my teeth fixed. Thanks Dr. Greg!
Just a short story. I went to a new orthodontist that just became one he was nice and all but his work wasn’t good. I had about 2-3 brackets come off in one month and bite blockers come off. So I decided to make a switch and he refunded me. I went with the ortho my family went too and I haven’t had a bracket come off since or anything.
Extremely valid points, doc! I recently visited a general dentist for a checkup, and he casually mentioned that I'd eventually have to get my 4 wisdom teeth pulled (top 2 normal, bottom 2 impacted, none causing any immediate problems) and, if I were to get braces, 4 of my premolars would have to go. Got me a bit antsy because he comes across as rather "pro-extraction" (based on what he's done to my siblings) and, being an older practitioner, I have the impression that he might be "set in his ways" and hasn't really looked into newer technology that might circumvent the need for aggressive extractions... Granted, I'm not a dentist in any shape or form, but your advice in this video will make me more mindful the next time I visit a dentist. Good reminder that a patient deserves to air all of their relevant concerns and the doctor to be attentive to them C:

Chosing an orthodontist - prepare the ones who pick out every single teeny tiny issue and the converse those that say they can put you in braces and have all your issues fixed in 10 months. I give you this advice because I found this out the hard way. I ended up with the one who promised everything, didn't deliver the treatment to fix the primary issue I had, didn't answer questions and then announced "you're done" - but I wasn't. So I've spent an additional time and money to have issues solved. Now - watch this video again pay close attention to choosing an orthodontist.
My orthodontist is a regular dentist but he has done very well with me throughout my braces journey. Him and I have very open communication and that communication has paid off as well as patience! I am supposed to get them off this week let’s hope!! I am very happy with the results I am seeing and I will have my beautiful smile that I am confident in that will last a lifetime.
I went to a consultation and felt so uneasy there and was recommended a different Ortho to get a consult with and loved them! The office is 1 mile from my house and it felt like a family that I wanted to be a part of! I felt so bad having to cancel on the first guy I told them I was moving because they were not taking my no. I had also paid for something at the first office🥺 that’s 175$ I’ll never see again🤷🏻♀️
I am from the South East of England and in my 14th month of 36 (because I am also having upper jaw surgery) And I couldn't put all of that in the survey! And I only just got an appointment since the end of February, so that's probably made my time in braces longer!! Also these videos are very helpful and informative. Thank you!
This channel and your videos are so amazing and informative. I’ve already had braces in high school and after I got them off, I’m getting a second round of braces 3-4 years later. While my teeth are still pretty straight, my lower jaw is smaller due to missing two bottom teeth so I have a big overbite/overjet. This wasn’t really addressed much in my first orthodontist treatment but now I am getting that targeted! It kinda sucks thinking I have another one-two years with a brace face but I’m just trying to think of it as investing in my smile 😭
1. Make sure you visit an orthodontist rather than a general dentist. 2. Visit your general dentist to take care of your general dental health. 3. Whiten teeth before or after braces. 4. Communication is important with the orthodontist. 5. Be clear with your expectations and the results you want. 6. Go to an orthodontist that uses open options like braces and liners to get the options that will help your esthetic appearance.

Thank you so much for your informative videos and links to the Amazon products that you recommend. I was very fortunate to find a really good orthodontist in Spring Texas, I just wish I had watched your videos first. The pain of the first days in braces led me to your channel LOL. That's the next step for me.
Dear Dr. Greg, this video targets to adults which should find an orthodontist for best harmony. But Harmony is not all. As you know, I have a problem with wrong extractions as child. As a theoretical approach a lot of persons like me wounder, if extractions can be avoided. Standard method is waiting for the age of 12, extracting 4*4 and simply pull the remaining teeth to a straight line. Parents could imagine that starting with 6 years and making orthodontics which support growing of the jaws may result in avoiding extractions. What is your opinion to this desire ? I am now 57 years old. When I was 32 years old I made a second orthodontic treatment which betters the catastrophe from childhood, but also was made in insufficient apparative quality. Resulting in not completely raising the deep bite and resulting in recessions around the upper 6-molars. If I had enough money, I would try to raise the deep bite further with some activator apparture. Also to move the Class II position against Class I, which cannot really achieved. My problems are the recessions, which are frequently side effects of adult orthodontics. So a recession treatment must fallow an orthodontic treatment. There is the Chao pinhole technique, which seems best suited for this problem. But it uses only collagen stripes. I am in doubt, if with this method the alveolar bone can be recreated. There is a need for an advanced pinhole technique which includes bone transplantation. And this procedure may be a normal aftermath to adult orthodontics. Perhaps you can tell something about this theme.
Huge Problem . I saw 4 orthodontist and 3 said I can’t do braces unless I do jaw surgery and one said he can do it , get it to 70 percent . Can you explain why this is happening ? Now I don’t know what the right thing to do is ?! I’m 30 and my dentist said if I don’t correct my alignment problem I’ll be in for trouble later on but I’m not sure if he sent me to this guy to rob me of 7000
You forgot to talk about missing teeth, Bridges, crowns etc. & what about smaller companies like smile direct club or Candid? They skip ortho & go into treatment
i already have braces, just curious, do orthodontists specialize in age? since like i suppose if your mouth is still growing and developing then the treatment would be different?
I filled in but in from europe. I think a lot of people might be interested in jaw surgery and the extra and intra oral aestethic aspects of orthodontics.
Dr Greg how do you whiten teeth of those with tooth enamel loss? I used to brush my teeth too vigorously when I was young 😌 hoping that my teeth would be whiter and now I have 'permanently' yellow teeth 😅😅 Hope you see this…
I got mine 6 days ago, and the pain got better pretty quickly. For me, it peaked two days after getting them on and was pretty much completely gone by today.
jfwilki2 really? I'm on my 2nd day and it gets sore when I chew even when I eat like shredded chicken or something soft (coz I'm sick of eating soup) but it doesn't hurt as much as the first day..the first day was hell (totally worth it tho)
I live near Columbus Ga and had braces as a teen. I was a dumb teen and didn’t wear my retainers like I should have. I recently did a virtual consultation with West Ga orthodontics (I went there in middle/high school) and she recommended either suresmile aligners or traditional braces. I am 25. I am debating on if I should go back or not.
Hey Dr. Greg, I had a question about lingual retainers - my orthodontist has recommended them as the best post-treatment solution, but I'm concerned about the difficulty of flossing with a permanent retainer behind my teeth. Is a lingual retainer really more effective than a removable retainer (assuming I wear it diligently)?
My 10 years-old daughter has an overbite/overjet (not really sure because I wasn't there to talk to the orthodontist due to the covid19). The orthodontist suggested that my daughter will get braces on her front upper teeth only to prevent the teeth from accident. The full set of braces can be done until whole baby teeth are gone. Is that true? I've seen a lot of younger kids already have a full set of braces. I'm thinking that would be cost more since we have to do it twice. Thank you in advance.
Hello how are?? Really gotta say I appreciate all ur information...So I'm at Bellflower California,,,I'm 52 and thinking after a long time to get braces,my kids are all grown so it's my turn 🤣. I just got my braces on 6 days ago. Wish I had this before then. I didn't see my general dentist before getting them on; I did it the opposite way. I had an appointment with my general dentist the day after getting the braces on. Big oof on my part I guess.
I’m getting them on Friday
Im getting my braces today. So im watching videos. I m little bit scared. Plz pray that all goes well.
Huge Problem . I saw 4 orthodontist and 3 said I can’t do braces unless I do jaw surgery and one said he can do it , get it to 70 percent . Can you explain why this is happening ? Now I don’t know what the right thing to do is ?!
I’m 30 and my dentist said if I don’t correct my alignment problem I’ll be in for trouble later on but I’m not sure if he sent me to this guy to rob me of 7000
I have a consultation very soon and I got a cleaning like a week ago~ 😢 I’m going to be sad if I can’t get braces
Mckinney Orthodontist in North Alabama (Huntsville area)!!!
I’m getting them in 3 days and I’m excited/nervous

i am wearing twin blocks and i am finally near done with them! i am so nervous about getting traintracks and having my surgery to fix my tooth gap!
Good luck! I’m also wearing twin blocks but I’ve had my appointment cancelled and am not sure when my next appointment will be.
I filled in but in from europe. I think a lot of people might be interested in jaw surgery and the extra and intra oral aestethic aspects of orthodontics.
great comment. Thank you! Definitely plan on this :)
I have mine for 3 months from a general dentist, about to transfer to an Orthodontist. Lack of communication & as if there was no time spare.
I had braces for a year and a half. Got them off and got my wisdom teeth pulled, which made my teeth shift. Back to being a brace face again.
Hey I was just wondering if you can make a video talking about damon braces and how Orthodontists choose which type of braces you need
He has already made that video.
Dr Greg how do you whiten teeth of those with tooth enamel loss? I used to brush my teeth too vigorously when I was young 😌 hoping that my teeth would be whiter and now I have 'permanently' yellow teeth 😅😅
Hope you see this…
Get my braces next week! I have an extreme underbite.
Thank you! Im getting mine August 26th!! Im soo nervous.
Bruh I just got braces yesterday and it hurts so muchhhh
It will definitely get better! Check out my video on managing braces pain so you can feel better!
I got mine 6 days ago, and the pain got better pretty quickly. For me, it peaked two days after getting them on and was pretty much completely gone by today.

Getting braces on March 9th! Today is February 9th. I’m so nervous
Hey Dr. Greg, I had a question about lingual retainers - my orthodontist has recommended them as the best post-treatment solution, but I'm concerned about the difficulty of flossing with a permanent retainer behind my teeth. Is a lingual retainer really more effective than a removable retainer (assuming I wear it diligently)?
i’m getting mine next month and i’m terrified
Spacers tomorrow 🎊🎊
I’m from South Africa and I have to take out 3 of my wisdom teeth and 4 premolars before I put on braces, the girl is terrified to say the least.
I'm already done, but I'm not that happy with my result😔
Oh noo - I'm so sorry =/
Zoe Antonoglou you should call them back!
Whats wrong?
Really love your videos! Would like to ask whether if is is possible to fix deep overbite with clear aligners?
consulation next monday 😁
I went to one that didn't want to pull 4 teeth and let me get them immediately. Too expensive though.

Are the Crest whitestrips ok to use when you have a permanent retainer (both upper and lower)?
Madeleine Smith yes!! The doc talked about whiteners & whitestrips are the best
Hello how are?? Really gotta say I appreciate all ur information...So I'm at Bellflower California,,,I'm 52 and thinking after a long time to get braces,my kids are all grown so it's my turn 🤣. On any case hope you can help me in finding the right orthotic..do you know anyone in this side that would be best?? Would really appreciate it 😊.
My dentist recommended me to see an orthodontist but everyone keeps telling me i don’t need them. What am i supposed to say to them?
I know this is kinda random but I am getting a
pallet expander and I got spacers yesterday but my orthodontist said they need to stay on for a month but I’ve heard it is usually only a week or two.
Hi Doc. Any idea of treatment in the absence of 2 lower molars?
Been binging on all ur videos ...getting braces next week
I have a question do you need to get a cleaning before your consultation?
