- "You can do so much damage if you can understand the relationship between these lines." Another quick lesson from Jim Lee on critical anatomy lines. I would have liked to have seen this idea expanded on but just planting that seed is incredibly valuable. Make sure you pay Jim a visit and subscribe to his Twitch channel so you don't miss out on your chance to learn drawing tips and win your very own sketch. Content in this video was acquired from / jimlee with the permission of Jim Lee.

Why has Mr Lee not done an anatomy book? His chops are amazing.
I have an anatomy book but it's just sketches. It would be awesome if he did one including with marker. That would be easier and more convenient.
He recommends Bridgman, much like everyone else.
Jim: *starts drawing ear*
Me: "where's he going with this shadowing?"
5 seconds later
Me: "HOLY SHIT!"
Thanks again dude.
Really useful stuff.
Love it when you include these little tutorials he does, as well as the full sketches.
+ThAdonis I really appreciate the feedback. I'll definitely compile more as they become available.
It is great that a big artist as Jim Lee gives advise :)
Love the ear lesson. Jim Lee I have admired your art for many years now. You have a very distinct style that is all your own and it is among the best in the industry. It has been an absolute pleasure to see your vision and I thank you my friend.
sweet I need this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you Jim Lee and VZA!
Appreciate the support, Rich! Keep up your awesome videos. Anytime you want a feature on the channel just let me know.
Loving your stuff rich, it got me interested in inks. Thanks for that.
@@VZAAGE Can you do a more in depth tutorial on comic style shading?
Please please please- more drawing tutorials from the master Jim. I just left David finches channel and even he admits he couldn’t touch Jim’s skills. I want to study a lot from Jim now. Thanks for this
Jim you keep on giving after all these years, we really appreciate you
I just leveled up guys woohoo! I can't believe he just taught us that shorthand like it was nothing that shit is valuable
Jim Lee is my favorite comic book artist of all time. My first comic book was X-Men #1 (2nd regular series) with that famous pull out cover of the X-Men fighting Magneto that he did. His incredible artwork got me into comics, though I did already like superheroes in general. Seeing these videos of him drawing is amazing. He's a great teacher as he draws as well. These are better than those expensive master classes you can buy.
I try drawing like him ruclips.net/video/NxWGQMSXbN8/видео.html
5:49 what kind of magic is this
Mannn, i love it so much, just streaming like a water
Thank you so much for this. I've always struggled with anatomy and this is really helpful
Thanks for shaping my childhood....more like teenhood. You're awesome.
I'm just a dude who edits videos... to thank Jim you should join the message board at discord.gg/jimlee
Damn he really is a great inspiration, he simplified all the muscle drawing it actually is easy, I always turn on one of his livestreams when I'm drawing, there's always things to learn. Thanks VZA, man you’re doing a great job, God bless you.
I had an Anatomy Drawing Book when I was a Kid. Unfortunately, it was stolen by my sister's scum-bag boy-friend. I was never able to find another like it, since. Hopefully I will soon, tho. Thanks for sharing Your Very informative Artistic Knowledge and eXperience. You are a LEGEND!!!! 💯👍🖊👌
I like how even tho jim doesnt talk so much but his little elaboration if it just makes it very comprehensive
How dare you take weeks of studying the back and turn it into the letter Y!!? Thank you man!!!!
This is a very good channel I like the actual useful videos uploaded
This is what we all needed, Jim lee read our minds!!!
this video couldn't have come at a better time
I like Jim's perspective on his "streamlined" earlobes. Totally justifying my weird ears this way from now on.
I have been drawing for years and yet this mandoes it with such speed. Kudos to you Jim Lee . there is some part of me which I could actually be in the same room with you and learn those techniques first hand and just chat on those ways. but hey we all have different jobs so we can’t do those kind of things and believe me I’m no young chicken. still think it would be an honor just you and me shooting the shit and doing some drawings.
I try drawing like him ruclips.net/video/NxWGQMSXbN8/видео.html
I luv u so much, man. Your channel is awesome
I appreciate the love, man. Thanks.
i have never seen anyone draw this efficiently.
Great credits of works.
DC should hires this artist.
Do understand that Jim is giving a shorthand, and one based on his 30plus years of experience. Failing to actually understand what these muscle/anatomical groups are, and how they interact with each other will give you bad results regardless... There is no substitute to drawing from real life, or at least serious photo references.
Another really great resource to use is "An Atlas of Anatomy for Artists" by Fritz Schider. it not only includes accurate anatomical diagrams, but also plates from classical and renaissance resources. It will help you understand Jim's diagrams and shorthand all the more.
Lazarus, do you think Jim Lee learned by going to anatomy class in the 90's or do you think he just studied how past greats like Jack Kirby drew and then created his own style.
+B I feel you and all, (I'll likely never do live anatomy drawing) but the stuff in this video is really no better for you artistically than a "how to draw comic book heroes" paperback from the library. Trust me, I know its a pain but knowing where important things connect *exactly* is going to save you SO much headache. Once you know that THEN you can start worrying about form and style and actually draw stuff from your head. Unless of course you were planning on rationing a couple of poses that you've memorized with relative accuracy.
B Pretty sure he said he has attended life drawing classes in the past
He learned from Bridgman books, bruh. He mentioned that's how he learned on Drawing with the comic book greats hosted by Stan Lee.
O cara desenha com uma facilidade inimaginável!
You are a True Art Master!!!
Imagine being he's student
Jim Lee could draw comics with his Sharpie and Micron sketches and they would still be better than 90% of the books being published.
That's because Jim Lee is one of the best artists in the history of comic books. He's far too humble to ever say it himself(which is a good thing) but he is.
@@JR-ju3kj not one of, he is the best
Well I guess it's time for me to study god damn ANATOMY
How did it go?
@@slothbaby2104 David finch makes amazing tutorials too..i mean. If you can download Jim lee and finch tutorials you Will improve your knowledge.. And practice a lot

Goddamn this man is good … Thank you for sharing this stuff
What pencil is he using in 2:50 ? I really want to know it looks very nifty!
He makes things that would take me a day or more to draw half as well seem so damn easy...
I like the process.
Un maestro a la hora de dibujar ! Que talento !!
seeing a sharpie uncapped for such a long time gives me the creeps!
I like how much of a compulsive drawer Jim is. He draws an example but can’t resist drawing a few more elements even though he’ll never look at it again.
Stared at an ear for an hour. Didn’t sleep for weeks 😬
3:41 Like Nails on the chalkboard!!!
most important Jim Lee video ever. Please watch Mr Liefeld.
Very nice class!
THANKUuuUUUUuuuUUUu Jim you are the best!

Thts it.. I'm subscribing.. 😂😂
Uffff wujuuuu! I learn a lot with lee I make a cyborg few years ago, thanks Lee man!
Dude, it just interest's me how this guy's brain works. he can draw a simple line and draw the rest of the body off of it. he doesen't even need cunstruction.
i try drawing like him ruclips.net/video/NxWGQMSXbN8/видео.html
fuck me the speed he smashed out that jawline and neck on that ear demonstration.
He’s fast...👀
Thank you Mr
"side connecter muscle"
😅😅😅😅
-proko has entered the chat.
finally! an artist who hasn't memorized all the muscle names... seriously, it's a weird flex i see in artists to name each isolated muscle.
ikr. David Finch said, "I couldn't care less what all the muscle names are, as long as it looks cool." He said this in his drawing tutorial on his website. You have to pay to get the whole thing.
I wouldn't call it a "flex", it's more like learning the names of different blocks you need to build with. Is it mandatory, no, but it helps with memorization.
I highly recommend learning anatomy for drawing. Bones+muslces because you'll lose that disorientation you get when drawing. When you understand the structure it makes drawing feel a lot more intuitive.
awesome thanks vza
5:48 Right when I thought he fucked up...
5:50 Boom bitch! A perfect drawing
"They're definitely freaky" lmao
Look at anatomy books, study the groups of muscles, how muscles extend and contract, and especially draw the muscle fibers. Just doing the tedious task of drawing the muscle fibers makes you stare at the anatomy long enough to see how everything function.
Great video
This is insaneeee, just no construction lines at all haha
I wonder if he'd do one for eyes. He's able to draw eyes really quickly. He might not though, because that might be his signature technique.
He did mention recently that he was thinking about doing it so let's keep our fingers crossed.
incredible speed
The shoulder has 4 muscles, not 3
How do i buy your prints?
Jim lee has to be the most minimalistic artist to date and yet is the best in the comic book industry
I hope i meet this guy
Great!!
guys is it only me or am i seeing bright white lines around his black marker lines?
well I don't think because of the right or wrong anatomy ... as long as it's looks cool and great , it's enough ... because sometimes the lighting is not even right naturaly .. it's still look awesome
Hey, do you have any plans to post Jim Lee drawing Goku?
Absolutely... I have to give the video at least 24 hours so either later this afternoon or tomorrow morning. You can catch the unedited version on Jim's channel right now though.
VZA Cool! Thanks for the heads up man! I think I'll check out your version and the unedited version!
Much love, man.
Vza, what pencil is he using in the video
Pencil? It's a Sharpie...
VZA lmfao
VZA I think he means at 2:48
Light of the night is right
He that rhymes
Thumbnail = Superpotbellyman?
1:09 *the only muscle i thouroughly know*
Meu mestre
Can u make hulk anatomy fold hand
What the fuck you can't just scribble the bottom half of a face and head all perfect like that in like 2 seconds! God damn it hahaha 😂
Such a badass. But tbh if I work with a sharpie that long it hurts my head with the smell man fuck… lol
You're a savage!!!!!!!!
chek my drawing ruclips.net/video/NxWGQMSXbN8/видео.html
No matter what style or type of Illustrator you are, ALWAYS study human and animal anatomy.
didn't realize he was this old
Mr jim lee and VZA channel can you do a video to how to draw eyes really this videos help me to practice.
Mr jim lee thanks for your time to help the begginers and I hope someday see you in a comic-con event in Mexico.
Thanks

5:56 :D
I don't want to discourage some aspiring artists, but you need more than these lessons to draw a body from memory. I've seen some guys draw perfectly anything without ever taken a single lesson...Jim Lee is one of these born artists, and he improved his skills by working in DC comics. Humankind had always artists, just watch the caves drawings where you can still see drawings of animals as good as today's, and they had no pencils, no paper, no art schools, no You Tube... ;)
👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽
The real thing is guys
No one looks at ears.
I wish I can draw 😟
You can draw... probably not very good at this point but if you put your mind to it you can get good.
lol the comments running in the vdo.. someone wrote : the boob muscle connects to the shoulder.. 😂
why does your recording lowkey looks like an indie horror game?
That’s funny
Nice video!! I just uploaded my first anatomy video and I would like to hear what you all think, thanks!❤️👏🏼
Says how to draw a back, draws a different back lol
Ears are gross confirmed
He drew goku recently
I'll have the video up first thing tomorrow morning.
Fuck, he sketches so fast! I draw pretty fast, but not nearly like that!
Jim Lee giving advice on anatomy? Hilarious.
Pls
I try like him ruclips.net/video/NxWGQMSXbN8/видео.html
why why why why why?
there is no magic in drawing. make your lines go where they should go. learn where your lines should go. don't guess
once you know where your lines should go, then you can play around, push the envelope and make something unusually cool
I love how jackie chan draws, its amazing
