Fascinating! One wonders when a cemetery becomes so old that nobody alive knows any of the departed, is this what will happen? Eventually we will run out of space...

Wow, what an amazing discovery. I hope once you are done you bury remains respectfully. They were people who lived here after all.

I hope their relics are also buried with them. Or is that going a bit too far?

Why? Respect for what reason... just sillyness on your part they are dead

If they are re-interred, there can be no further study. How would you know what that society (not necessarily any modern rendition of) or further that individual would consider "respectful"? How do you not know that that person hated the backstabbing bastards he was laid beside?

Very close to the end of the Roman occupation so they are unlikely to have been Christian,. They worshipped the old Gods ,Woden Thor ,and Freya. Its only their bones and grave goods that are left from which we can learn more of our ancestors.

No mate , the fact is , the history was invented after 1714 , the government wanted a protestant king ,so the Anglo Saxon story was exaggerated, to make the people think, they had a German heritage ,they put George of Hanover on the throne, DNA is showing that 70 % of English men have British DNA , if you think about it , what they are asked us to believe is ,that a few thousand Saxon warriors wiped out a population of 9 million, cmon the joke is over , let's have our true history re enstated
Try reading Percy enderby writing the official history for Charles 11 , you'd think he was writing about a different

@@gwyllt5633 UNsure if your comment is completed, but would you agree we are related to the Roman invaders, and likely the people who lived here previously? I don't think of myself as German.

I suppose as the train passes over a pre-recorded voice will say, “We are now passing over what for many years was a graveyard - there are children buried here as well as many women and men. We have some reproductions of beautifully decorated grooming articles for sale, including nail scissors and tweezers, that the ladies buried here used to use. Also lovely brooches. Thank you for travelling British Rail.”

It's going to be dug up and decimated for HS2 anyway! At least this way the remains are treated with respect and we discover more about about our ancestors and past 🙄

"High Status individuals"? Strange you say that. They are dug up and played with like remains in Potter's Field.

So what are you going to do with the remains of these people and their belongings? They were buried there for a reason. You should collect info, pictures, etc., then put them and their property back where you found it. It would be uncivilized to do anything else.

So, in a couple of hundred years when they want to dig up your loved ones to build the latest, greatest way to get from point-A to point-B, that will be okay? Maybe if this was a one-off, but this is clearly a graveyard. Shameful.
