a proper reflow is done by heating the entire board to a certain temperature to allow the solder to melt. your hot air station can't even reach those temps. you need a proper rework station especially on the ps3 motherboard, that are known to absorb the heat really slow (which is cause by all the copper on the motherboard that dissipate it really quicky) . for a reflow you need to reach 220-250 celcius degrees on the entire board and the chip simultaneously. but, i repeat, your problem are the tokin not the processors.
i have a 3kw power rework station and i still need to upgrade it to a 5kw to do the job well done. (i am a tecnichian by the way)

sorry, but the only way to really fix a playstation 3 is to see the error code on the syscon chip. so you can point the faulty component or components that cause ylod or other various problem. you need to study a little bit more with this console model. you can see "rip felix" channel, "idrees tech" channel to learn more about those systems.
anyway, the method you use to "fix" it, is temporary. it's not even a reflow. but the problem here seem imputable to the tokin capacitors that have lost their capacitance and cause bad current flow to the main chips (rsx and cell/be). re-hot those capacitors restore for a day, or even less, their functioning.

you have to put tantalum capacitor

Nooooooooooo..... this is not the proper way to repair the system!!!!
You need to dump syscon and if heat revives it, my money is on a bad RSX. But you need to dump the syscon to know for sure!

It won't last with a reflow

I checked in with that customer a few days ago and it is still going strong. Forewarning from comments and research this may not be a permanent fix. Also no idea how long it will last either.
