The phrasing of steampunk and dieselpunk also have nothing to do with actual punks, most media that's called cyberpunk isn't particularly punk-y either, it's just become a term to refer to certain retrofuture aesthetics
The problem with "nasa-punk" is that Starfield isn't a grounded, hard sci-fi setting. Bethesda included space magic, jumping between universes, and space cowboys. It's a silly fantasy setting that doesn't mesh well with the realistic aesthetic of nasa-punk. I think there was huge potential for a realistic space simulator game where you carefully manage fuel, oxygen, and plays more like Stalker or Tarkov. Just embracing the hardcore realism instead of dredging out the usual sci-fi tropes would've made Starfield so much more memorable.
Great video! Your insights on Starfield resonated with my own observations and experience with the game. Nice analysis and the way you highlighted both the strengths and areas for improvement in the game. Keep up the fantastic work!
Came here for hate watching on Starfield thinking this would be a regular hate-video. Left with a much deeper understanding of my own feelings towards this game. you put words to what I've been feeling, thanks!
Punk just means theme now. Nasa Theme, Goth Theme. Yada yada
I think that NASA-soulless type fits more with this game. It has cool idea, but it lack the soul to keep the player invested. For example here are 3 games that are better than Starfield. The First One is Mass Effect were the main story was fantastic. The Second game No Man's Sky is far more better space exploration, and adventure (plus the Universes are much bigger). The Third Final One game is Cyberpunk 2077 where the npc dialogue is so much more alive, and the graphics are phenomenal.
Ps. I guess the only good thing that you can do with Starfield is to install some adult R18 mods, and have some fun like with any other Bethesda game (until you will get a crash).
it also bothers me the overuse of "punk", but punk was only counterculture for like 5 years; just like most subcultures, punks are just wearing a uniform and consuming media made for them
it's very disappointing since the aesthetics and theme of the game are quite interesting , but that's it , it's mostly just aesthetics masquerading as an immersive RPG.
also , nice video!
Can believe ppl that don’t like it are still talkin about it a year later. There’s been SOO many games since then ffs
It sucks because I absolutely love Starfield's concept and aesthetic. Starbound is another deeply flawed game which is one of my favorites, i've been obsessed with this kind of space exploration sandbox RPG type of game ever since i first played the Starbound beta in middle school. If Starfield had good writing, i could've forgiven it and it could've very well been my favorite game ever despite all its flaws. Hell, if it just had good quests with real choices and opportunities for roleplaying the same way old Bethesda games used to, i would've absolutely loved it. If it just had good exploration with more than 5 repeated structures on every samey procedural planet, and i could've gotten my "Starbound but 3D" fix, i would've loved it. But it tried to do a dozen things and managed to do none well.
is there a Bethesda game you would "go running out and tell your friends to play"?
Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind is a good game to recommend to my friends.
Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3.
I think your misunderstanding of punk and genrepunk is interesting.
he's half right: punk was only counterculture for like 5 years, but it did start that way. And just like most subcultures, punks are just wearing a uniform and consuming media made for them; my guess is you're one of those consumers
@@larrote6467Language is descriptive not prescriptive. You're just trying to be pedantic and smug lol
