Stihl MS 462 (ported) vs Husqvarna 572xp (ported)

- Quick rematch in dry hard beech between these two new 70cc class saws. Both are woodsported with 8pin rim, same bar and hand filed Stihl 3/8 RSC chain. These saws are dead even in terms of power after porting. It just depends on personal preferences which saw you choose. Yes, the Stihl is 600g lighter, thats a big difference but the Husqvarna has the bigger bearings and bottom end, maybe better for long bar setups over time.
I think they both are good saws. I own a 394XP and a 21R weed eater both run great, not sure on the age of the 394 but I bought the whacker in 1990 and it has taken care of the farm and three rental houses been in shop once. Sold on Husky.
I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

@@Dechsi87 nice vidéo, super boulot
I will second that that is how a saw comparison should be done
Stihl is best. The Stihl still won even after using the more used up chain.
@@TTundragrizzly the Husqvarna also made a 22.8 cut. The Stihl had over 23 on one. They practically tied.
Good to see someone use the same bar and chain really gets me people using a worn out chain to a newer one and compare two saws this test was spot on
Yeah.... or a bone stock brand new saw not broke in vs a ported and muffler modded hyposaw....
They are even. I would choose the lighter saw.
That would be the Stihl. It's 1.5 lbs lighter than the Husky.
Stihl please. When you buy a Stihl the store always fuels up the saw and oils it and then starts it in front of you. Very impressive. Will always buy Stihl for that reason and of course they produce a quality product.
3Vimages lol, if you are lucky enough to have a exceptional dealer... I have two Stihl dealers 5 miles from my house, and both are incompetent, and charge ridiculous prices on service.
I buy Stihl and Huskys, but I do my own service.
Ok ….. well I live in France and evidently every stockist here is required to run the machine for clients. Maybe it is just a Europe thing. @@Timijim
Thats rite they do that i got a MS 461 with a 25" bar on it i mite get another one they will squat down and get down to it they Run like a Deere my 2 favorite brands
John Deere and Stihl
I just bought a 572 from my local dealer in Myrtle Creek Oregon and he filled it with gas and oil and cranked it up for me. Has nothing to do with Stihl, it's all about the dealer!
That 462 sounds awesome
Great comparison video!!! Both of those are screamers!! I'd be more than happy with either one of those lol. Thanks for the video!
Stihl just won't out cut a husqvarna
Well done, great review, either saw's a winner. I've got 3 old MS 460's ... I put a barker box on 1 ... then put on my best square ground chain and scared the heck out of myself .. It would eat my 660. That saw is 40% faster than my other old round filed machine. I know its a pain but if you cut a lot of wood it's a game changer getting a Simongton 451C and learning how to file square ground.
I wish you could do this as a side by side with the time synchronized. Stihl audio on left speaker channel, Husqvarna on the Right.
and a pro dj mixing the sounds hahah :)
Lmao
Ноздря в ноздрю,класні i Hus, i Stihl
They both run damn good, and you handle them well.
Just a little port work and muffler mod?
Squish/base cut on both, woodsported and muffler modded
Hey Dech, do you have a personal favorite between these two?
Excellent demonstration for comparing these excellent saws. Stihl seems slightly better and is a slightly lighter saw. What I don't understand is what does porting do to the engine and why would you alter the factory setting?
Xtra performance . I live at 450 500 feet. Every saw I ever bought has to be adjusted to run well at my altitude.
Bigger ports mean More air and fuel = more power. Factory anything has room for improvement.
What saw do you find yourself preferring?
How long do ported chainsaws last ? Do they have a shorten live spans and do they either blow up and seize up ?
If a quality job was done and ports balanced it should run longer barring any other factors that can significantly shorten the life of a 2 stroke engine. The engine runs cooler and more efficiently with more oil mixed gas passing through the system per rpm keeping it well lubed also.
i bought a 462 as i knew someone and was able to get it for 900 i have a 562 husky and a 390 i have 15 gallons of gas through my 462 and so far so good.
I run the 572’ have better service here. Everything I run is husky! Used to run Stihl, hard to get parts now. I like them both!
Do a video of those two vs the 7900
basically you can compare the cut times with the 7900 video, it's the same bar, chain, sprocket and piece of wood ;) but i will do a shoot out cut with all the videos soon.
Very good comparison, I'm sure either one of these saws will be a good investment

yes. A comparsion to the "old" Dolmar 7900 would be nice. Please!
@@anna-lenablomkvist33 ported dolmar 7900 17.8 sec...muffler mod 7900 21.8 sec...dolmar wins😄
a fair test
great video man. :) well done!
Thanks ;)
The real question is which one will last longer? ( under the same conditions)
I always go with the heavier crankshaft and heavier bearings. Which the husky has. Been logging with mine for three years not one issue.
Sthil 462 💪
Hi, what do you mean for "ported"?
Thanks from italy
Mario Massari I dont even know what it is..
Ive been googling A bit and,it looks Like porting is A kind of tuning of engine to make it stronger..
Porting involves removing excess material in the engines ports. It doesn't always mean making it bigger. It can be as simple as removing casting flash leftover from manufacturing. The most common is to "clean up " the ports. But the port shape, size an position will change engine characteristics. Typically this involves using a die grinder to do the work or air dremel( think dentist drill) in the tight spots. However this is not a 1 STEP process, more air means more fuel, means more exhaust gases. So the whole system has to be tuned, carb, ports, pipe to utilize the new found air flow. Sorry if i confused you but i tried to explain.
Nice work, detailed times in comparison, good deal!
Could get a ported 461 vs 572 they weight close to the same... 461 more cc but the weight.... 462 in this segment vs other saws that weigh the same is no contest
I rather take something with a bigger bottom end in it and and that. so you know it will handle the power.
as a technician there are alot more crank bearing failures with 572xp than MS 462. it may have bigger bottom end but the quality of bearings are trash.
@@PERPARSON where when? Never even heard of such a thing.
How much blow down on the 572 stock?
And ported?
Who cares lol!! Let's cut exhaust roof and compression goes down lol!! Why not just increase the port time area and keep compression up and still turn 14k out of wood and 12k in wood and have o broad power band!! Or cut roof to turn 14k out of wood and 10.5k in wood with like 120psi compression and narrow powerband!! Talking work saw pulling 24" bar in 24" wood!! You want to cut 12" softwood cookies with 16" bar thats different story!!

Good work.
I worked all day with a stick saw for years .all this porting does is take away what little power they have in the low end .The noise sucks and you get caught in Oregon is a 1000 dollars ticket every time other than that it's a cool video
Good for oregon glad I live in NC
Basically the Stihl is lighter and slightly more powerful. The Husqvarna is built with more longevity in mind but gains a pound and has a little less power. Id take both, 18” on the Stihl and use it for in tree saw, 20” on Husky use it for a ground saw with my 25” 661c
You talk about longevity regarding husqvarna and no for the stihl.Well that’s bull l have a friend who’s got a 462cm he’s got 230hrs up on it not one issue in anyway still going strong. The fact is the stihl is an advanced design the husqvarna not so

25yrs of using stihl daily up to 15 different saws.I am sick of being the guinea pig and sorting out problems that should of been solved before a saws release. The 201t and 661 debacle now I have a one week old 462 with a control unit being replaced.Stihl sort your shit out.
What happened with the 661? I have one and have had no issues as of yet but it's a low hour saw.
Was in red lake building a powerline in minus 30 everyday, husqs had no issues running the sthils had to have been warming up for them to start, husqs would cold start no problem
Been hearing that about the 500 I as well
😊😊😊😊😊🎉😂
It's a little "old school" trick from the days when saws were ALL magnesium and a giant heat sink but one way to get past that is to put a small squirt of gas into the intake. It never hurts to keep a small syringe in the work tools to do just that for when the weather is terrible. More than a cc or 2 will flood it but it'll pop off most of the time.
So they're pretty even. Nice to see a good comparison, and someone that knows how to run a saw properly for this type of comparison.
There both nice saws I'd be happy with either one
and I must say there much quicker than my 72" cross cut (2 man) saw.

I like to buy local if possible from smaller shops as opposed to chain stores. Where I got my 462 is from a small shop with two old guys like myself that have the time to talk about what they’re selling and they sell Stihl exclusively. For bucking firewood I really love my Stihl saws and I appreciate the weight savings with the Stihl saws as well.
So the two old guys have this small shop and both actually work on saws and have for many years, not a young kid who has no real practical knowledge about what he is selling for the most part. I bought a 261 from them and liked it enough that I bought a second one as a wedding gift, the couple had a Husqvarna home owners saw on their wish list. So instead of the bottom end saw I got them all lined out with safety chaps, gas can, a six pack of oil for the extended warranty, storage box, files, two extra chains and a professional grade saw. I had the old guys switch it over to 3/8ths and a 20 inch bar too. At the wedding I just put an envelope with the receipt in it and a note on the gift table so all they needed to do was just go pick it up and get the lowdown from the two old guys. I never heard back from the couple, thank you kiss my ass nothin. I guess they didn’t like it or I liked them a lot more than they liked me, oh well. The two old guys will never forget me though. :)
So then I call the two old guys up and told them I was wanting a 462, you bet they remembered me. They told me they had only one left so I asked them to put my name on it and I went over and picked it up the next day. You go to one of these big box stores you never see the same guy twice. I know without a doubt that if I ever need any help with my saws I got two old very experienced guys who will remember me and help me out.

What saw has the fewest Chinese parts that’s the saw I will buy
The Stihl. Their pro line is German or US made, depending if you live in Europe or USA. But you can hunt for "Made in Germany" saws in US too.
Should come down to wich one last longer. Longer lifetime wins?
longer lifetime in a ported saw? Isn't that a contradiction?
