Question: Are brokers even necessary? Why not cut out the middle man? Maybe they're better for new carriers? Or better for bigger carriers? What about a sole proprietor Owner Op? Seems more like a hassle to work with them. Also, what do you think about lumpers? Isn't it kind of weird that a Shipper wants YOU to pay to get THEIR freight in the receiver's warehouse? I've seen $400 lumpers to take out a few pallets. Just let me use your pallet jack, I'll do it myself!
That is why broker corruption is rampant. Because we let them screw us and we smile to avoid what we think is compromising a "good relationship" but the broker is actually laughing all the way to the bank. I would sue a broker in a heartbeat for $150, based on principal alone, and to save the next poor guy caught in his greedy grimey grasp. We're just enabling and nurturing corrupt behavior.
What if a shipper loads you then puts a seal on the load before you inspect it and you take it to the receiver and it gets rejected for either a damaged load or the load fell over?
I tend to stand my ground and tell them to break the seal because I didn't check if the load was properly secure, it's my ass if I take it, not theirs🤷♂️
I don't even understand why brokers exist. I totally understand why they existed pre-internet, but they are completely unnecessary middleman in the internet age.
Hi I have a situation where we did a load 2/28/22 payment period without fee is 30 day but it's now 5/3/22 still haven't received payment. I was informed 4/20/22 they been having issues with shipper so they can't pay at the moment. In my invoices I do have $25/day fee for late payment from 30 agreement plan. So at this point they owe roughly $900-$1000 I asked to pay 50% of this fee and now say they can pay me immediately after they say they will pay Thurs 5/4/22 😒 how can I go about this?

In these cases, always ask the receiver to write "Seal Intact" on the BOL!

File against their bond. It doesn't matter if the shipper paid them or not. They are on the hook to YOU regardless.
file against their bond. Always discuss over emails to keep as records, invoices, in gate/out gate, and take a picture of the load with your truck
$150 for 8 hours???
