I thought the English was good; and I edit English for work!
Nice video, though I wonder about the harms of mealworms etc; it's an issue that gets discussed, inc recent conversation I had. To me, not so bad; birds do go off and feed on other stuff. At Baihualing, Yunnan, I was told of birds abandoning the feeding sites in summer - still food at these feeding stations, but they choose only wild food. [At Baihualing, I spent little time in a hide, even tho plenty of birds; still preferred to walk in woods - where I often don't see much!] Bulbuls in my garden likewise only feed on rice/bread in colder months - when I try helping a little during times food is harder to come by.
For some places, like Baihualing, brings some revenue for locals; who in this case might otherwise be trapping. Not HK I know; or not yet ...
Birds not alert to predators would be bad; if this happens.
But I get really angry on reports of mealworms held in place with pins - danger to birds, also get stupid shots like redstarts at flowers... The snake held by string at Long Valley, to shoot serpent eagle. The sheer selfishness here, disgusts me.
Tales of places in China, with birds in captivity to photograph as if in wild: well, I post some v rude comments if think I see these shots on Facebook.
Also indeed prefer people having some fieldcraft, and especially respect for birds, nature.

@@martinwilliams3236 (I just wanna to share our discussion on fb here so more people can get further into the topic) Hi Martin, I am the creater of the video and I truly appreciated your comments! Due to my desire to keep the video short, there are many points I missed out in the video. Baiting is always an controversial topic in birding as there are many different types of bird feeding. Mealworms is known to have high fat content, even in zoo, while feeding captive animals such as reptile and bird, keeper will tried to provide a wide variety of food instead of replying on just mealworms as some animals will truly die due to obesity. And bird feeder is another interesting topic that I think need a lot more discussion. It is true that when done right, it can help birds overwinter, but there is also risk of disease transmission, or even affecting species evenness if garden bird is getting selective advantage that other species dont. I don't have a clear answer to it and would love to see more discussion!

Martin: Anson Tse Yes, needs more discussion; and birds' welfare should be vital.
Think I also queried a friend in Malaysia re mealworms, attracting pittas etc; he reckoned they also ate variety of foods in the forest. [captive bred birds, no choice of course]
I was very used to bird feeding in UK: peanuts, sunflower seeds etc. Even a feeding station with these in a small wooded valley, away from houses: never seemed the birds were suffering, though no studies.
On more recent visit, goldfinches much easier to see; maybe benefited from feeders becoming more established.
Even Mai Po ponds like feeding stations, esp drained; though fish for egrets of course fully natural.
I remember at Pui O, saw people with branch put on tripod, had some orange fungi, mealworms on top to attract Daurian Redstart, setup included camera v close for remote triggering. Maybe they would have been proud to show off the photos; but looked upset when I took a shot of them and the setup. To me, just sad really; also kind of laughable.
But yes, tough issue, to know what's best. I've recommended trying feeding stations w friends in Indonesia, who did try with some success, inc forest birds that are very hard to see. Now quite a trend in region; and can boost ecotourism.
Still, if photographers can only shoot forest birds this way, not put in the time and effort to walk trails, sometimes with nothing perhaps; well also sad.
I think feeding can be a small way of returning something to bird world, after so much damage; and perhaps photography more a secondary benefit, ideally.
This spring, too, I've seen re island in Thailand, where mealworms put out for migrants; they found a blue n white flycatcher put on decent weight while there.
This kind of thing surely seems worthwhile, esp in time of climate change [Lantau coast arid yesterday, didn't get a mosquito bite] along with habitats depleted.
Doing this and having photos secondary would seem good to me, even parts of hk, even Ho Man Tin [!]. Esp if could also do some assessments: does it help the birds?

希望大家都會尊重野生動物,無論係雀鳥、兩棲定爬蟲,都唔應該誘拍同拎上手擺拍,甚至係捉走帶返自己屋企及朋友間傳黎影相。thanks for your effort to make this video!

Hi Anson, with regards to baiting. What is the difference between setting up a bird feeder in the back yard and a feeder elsewhere? Birds scavenging at rubbish tips and landfills. So these cases the birds will depend on the humans? I doubt as once the source of food disappears, the birds will revert to normal behaviour. The only issue would be people disturbing the birds at the feeding stations. how are you doing ? Kit

Great message. The most beautiful photos of birds to capture are when the birds are doing their own things without human intervention.

    誘拍不能稱為自然生態攝影,我唔會用誘拍去拍照,但亦無能力阻止其他人去做,只要唔直接傷害隻雀就算吧,各自各用自己既方法去影就好了。
