My friend has the latest Prius, he says if driven like "driving Miss Daisy" and in optimum conditions (correct tyre pressures e.t.c) it can achieve 80+ miles to the gallon, but he said in the real world its significantly below that figure.

Yes Toyota/Lexus are 8/10 years ahead of other mainstream manufacturers when it comes to Hybrid technology, plus Toyota reliability is insane, I've seen old ex Taxi Toyota Prius's with over 400,000 miles on them, incredible.
Not really. Toyota / Lexus got stuck on hybrid while everyone else moved to plug-in.

@@jasongregory5678 The government should finally invest in public chargers which could be used overnight. All the investment seems to be on fast chargers now, which is fine, but not excellent.
@@DarcersTech do you know there is a plugin hybrid of the prius with over 25 miles of range??! there are even versions of prius with solar roof foe extra energy toyota isnt playing with other manufacturers they have a really good technology and for electric cars they are actually working on it to improve the batterie technology (charging and discharging lifetime) before they can produce them so there is no struggle there
@@carholic-sz3qv Toyota has been publicly anti-EV. But it's companies like Tesla which have challenged them, because they managed to show that EVs really do work, batteries last a long time if designed properly, and there is demand for these cars.
The Prius Plug-in is not a "proper" car. It only seats 4 and has a tiny boot, despite being the same size as the hybrid Prius.

I pick up my new Hyundai Ioniq in less than 2 weeks and am happy to see it reached the #8 position. The other cars in the list were either unavailable, out of my price range or in the case of the Yaris I couldn't physically fit (I'm 6'3).
Excellent summary by Mat. Like the look of the new Corolla. My dad had one in the 70s and I still have a soft spot for the revived model.
I totally agree with the Lexus infotainment centre I was going to buy one but even though I am IT literate and I couldn't program a route quickly, I did have the Infiniti Q50 hybrid which I loved but the boot was small. Love the channel guys

@@chy4919 I mean european and american car makers are making hybrids but they are mostly plug in hybrids. Is stardard hybrid cars that much better than plug in hybrids or what? I haven't owned any hybrids so I really have no idea.
@@jackbauer2925 neither have i, but not everyone has a garage to plug in their cars or an easy outlet without having to modify your house, especially in Europe, so hybrid non plug-in are just more accessible all round.
@@chy4919 Yeah thats true. I guess they would be suited better in northern Europe since most of the cars there have block heaters so there are bound to be outlets everywhere. Now I'm only wondering whether the plug in capability comes with disadvantages over non plug in. Well I'm not buying a hybrid anytime soon so I guess it doesn't really matter

The Prius 4 is the best out of these 10 hybrid car.
He's the most and longest optimized one for the hybrid concept. Every other one stands in his shadow looking to conventionell, which means in a way boring, not having such low fuel consumption and offering often lesser space. The Prius has proven to be a very reliable car, most likely the most reliable of all cars in and out of the test.
I own one.

@@pharaongaming8617 they can it's not exactly a good use of fuel.
Normal hybrid get mediorce mpg. But plugin cars will get like 200mpg If you don't have a long commute.
For example I have a volt and it's got 250+ mpg as it's average fuel economy. No diesel can match that economy.
Plugins don't count because they're shite if you don't plug them in. The S90 is great, but I for one wouldn't buy one as I live in a top floor flat and it wouldn't be good (lower mpg than equivalent non plug-in cars so why bother).
More importantly though, by leaving out plug-ins, Car Wow have an easy filler video like this left in the bank.
He isn’t counting plug in hybrids as not everyone lives in a house with a garage or an apartment with underground parking with charging points
Good overview! Interesting question: Electric range of PHEVs. We just tested Volvo's XC40 in our video and didn't get as far as promised...
Re. No.9, the Toyota Yaris, the model shown is NOT the Hybrid one - the one in your footage evidently has a manual gearbox!

I used to have a Lexus 220d years ago and, although it was the most comfortable car I have ever driven, the entertainment and sat nav system was baffling back then. Cant believe they are still making the same mistake years later
It makes no sense does it. I have no idea why they don't sort out their auto boxes and their entertainment systems. It's the only thing really holding them back. I've had 4 Lexus cars over the years and ran them to over 145k miles with next to no issues and certainly no major ones and Lexus customer experience is 2nd to none so why not listen to everyone and invest in a new system.
@@stevenham1937 No Steven its weird. Surely they can find a good designer/manufacturer to sort that part out. It's been a problem for so long. I had a neighbour come over to ask me for help with his once so its not just us, he was stumped how to use it.

The looks fit the nation that made them to be honest ahah,, i understand it doesnt hv to be, but im honestly glad they did. I have the Yaris, which is my first car and it's very easy to drive. The Prius is what all the taxi drivers seem to drive, the two seat Honda looks really cool

Everyone, who says that Lexus infotainment system is terrible has never actually driven it daily. If you do, you get used to it super fast and it is very easy and even pleasant to use after around a week

Hi Mat, can you do a video with "What is the best hybrid technology?". For example: take the new Toyota Corolla Cross vs Nissan Qashqai e-Power and go on the same track/road for the same distance and see which one is more efficient. I'm sure a lot of people will want to know that :)

I have the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, its easy to drive and is really reliable. It's also my first car. I'd love that Lexus ES one day. The terrible entertainment systems is a pity

I mean I was surprised by Geneva where you had all these European (especially the Germans premium brands) proudly unveiling plug ins, which is a technology of the past, imo. Even the vw group had nothing to show for despite their winning Le Mans 919 hybrid (weird).
The Japanese and Korean placed themselves well, presenting vehicles that are more and more attractive for everyone here in Europe.
What about the BMW 530e or the Volvo XC60 T8? I would have either of these above anything on your top 10 list except for maybe the NSX.
I have a Mazda Axela Hybrid which looks sporty and give 50MPG real life with 2lter engin

Totally agree with no1 being the Corolla as absolutely love my 2.0 excel touring sport. You don’t really even notice it’s a hybrid to be honest. It just drives & goes very nicely.

My crv 2008 has a brilliant system but I do sometimes get confused,rarely though and we get 37.9 mpg

Stop with the Lexus infotainment system bashing. It isn't actually that bad once you use it regularly and has large screens with high res. Runs rings around my Q7 and volvo v60 systems (and previous vw systems i had). You're a great reviewer Mat, you don't need to copy dumb popular opinions formed by other car reviewers.
