The difference is there are cities that want an NFL team willing to pay for a new stadium to get a NFL team. If Bills didn't get a new stadium from City of Buffalo, Austin and San Antonio TX invite them to relocate to Texas for a newly built stadium after all the businesses and people relocated to Texas - the land, the money and the market is there. City of Buffalo gonna build the new stadium to keep Bills in New York even though it's gonna be hard on the taxpayers.
Stadiums do last 50 plus years. Astrodome in Houston, TX still up. The owner wanted a new stadium after request to renovate the Astrodome then he moved team to Tennessee after the Astrodome was renovated.
Buffalo Bills getting a new stadium from City of Buffalo. Bills could have easily relocated to Austin / San Antonio TX for a new stadium to be built. Chicago Bears getting new stadium. Tennessee Titans getting new stadium. Either build the new stadium or lose your team to a city that willing to build the Stadium with one hundred percent of taxpayers money.
Such a Cleveland slappy. No justification for that much public money. Give the public an ownership stake and then it’s worth it If I am governor I tell them for our share of this we want a similar ownership stake to recoup the investment
I'm all for a Federal law banning public funding for stadiums unless the city/state is given a percentage of the ownership commensurate with the percentage the city/state is to spend on the project.
Agree. Teams want these projects to be owned by the local govt to make it exempt from property taxes. They prefer leasebacks. That way it’s easier to walkaway & let taxpayers pay demolition costs. All this money is because private suites rent for less than they cost to build with team owners getting all the revenue.
I disagree a professional sport franchise brings 100s of thousands of people to the area adding to the economy, not to mention it boost property value, the tax payer and home owner wins in the end
You don't understand cause there other cities and states willing to pay one hundred percent tax payer dollars, they just giving City of Cleveland opportunity to keep the team in Cleveland. It's all about business. If someone offered you a brand new house would you take it regardless if you been in your house for 25 years?

Well, the owner has something City of Cleveland wants and that is the Browns. They lost the original Browns to Baltimore to be Ravens. He can take the new Browns and relocate them and change identity too. I'm sure City of Cleveland will give him what he wants.
This is crazy... No Criminal! that the public should have to fund any of this ish, without the city / public having ownership. Las Vegas was a unique situation.
I'm all for taxpayers paying if they get majority of the revenue. Otherwise is useless. And each stadium should have a dome over it so that it could be used for other venues whenever the city wants to use that stadium
Cleveland residents and fans if y'all want to keep Browns in Cleveland go ahead and build the new stadium cause they will relocate to another city or state that will get 100 percent tax dollars build them a stadium. Don't renovate cause two years later they will ask for the new stadium again. This is what happened to Houston Oilers before Owner Bud Adams relocated them to become Tennessee Titans, he ask for Astrodome to be renovated and the City voted on doing it then two years later he wanted new stadium once city voted no he moved to Tennessee that same year. Cleveland Browns already lost the original Browns the Baltimore Ravens - don't want to lose the new Cleveland Browns to another city all due to a stadium. Build the Stadium - but make it a dome that way you can get a Superbowl in Cleveland.
Listen if you built a stadium after 1994 its fine make it last 40 years the only excuses i ever made for replacing stadiums was the crappy cookie cutter stadiums from the 60’s & 70’s and the inflatable dome stadiums from the 80’s that’s why those were so short lived. Browns current stadium is very nice i get it they want a roof to get a one off superbowl and final 4.

I am a believer that for MLB and moreso, NFL.. if you want it.. BUILD IT YOURSELF... MLB and NFL stadiums cost a ton for what.. NFL hosts up to 9 games a year... MLB at least does 81... how much ROI will a city/state see with only 9 games? The answer, they WON'T... MLB may.. but it's still not going to be great.. at least with NHL/NBA, those are arenas, they can host both teams as well as concerts, conferences and other events... what good is an NFL venue when it's not hosting NFL? Cleveland just built that stadium in the late 90's... I don't believe talks of making a new one should even be brought up unless it's gotten at least 50 years old.. Hell, The Cubs and Red Sox are playing in venues that are over 100 years old... and those are the only venues in the MLB that fans come to see the venue rather than the team. Let them walk... Yes, as a young Bills fan.. I saw so much tail gating... but that rarely went over to the local bars and such.. it was a parking lot BBQ party.. As a Sabres fan, it was common to hit one of the brew pubs and walk to the Aud and later the HSBC Arena (and whatever it's called today) for the game... I cried when they tore the Aud down... At some point.. taxpayers will say enough.. and Cleveland should be taking note from what happened in KC... the taxpayers will get a vote in Ohio cause that's the law there (unless it changed since their old venue was built)... Taxpayers are saying the BIG FU with these teams/leagues.
If the stadium was over 40 years old then having some public tax money for a new stadium might make sense. But since this one is only 25 years old, lawmakers need to deny this request.

If you've lived in Cleveland like I have, you would know that the structural issues with the current stadium are legit and not fake. The stadium was built on the cheap end quickly on the same site where old Cleveland Stadium stood. That ground is an old landfill. It cannot support any kind of domed structure as it is. They would have to tear down the current stadium, totally remake the ground material to withstand the weight of a domed stadium, then build a new stadium. That is why a dome isn't being looked at on the lakefront, and why Brook Park is.
I have no issue with taxpayer dollars being used, just as long as we're getting outside events that generate revenues that go back to communities that helped fund it.
The Browns still do not own the land in Brookpark. They also do not have an option to purchase it, regardless of what is being reported. The city of Brookpark will absolutely not be contributing to the Stadium. It's a city of less than 10,000 people. They absolutely cannot afford any contribution of any sort. They will not even be able to contribute to any infrastructure or any of the costs. Stop saying that Brookpark is going to pay. They absolutely are not. Haslams people showed a concept to a few state legislators. Haslam is clearly setting the stage for the future. But he isn't going to pay for it.

What's up with all these new stadiums wandering all of a sudden? Why move the browns from the waterfront downtown to the suburbs next to an airport? It is just like the Bills building their new stadium in the burb instead of downtown Buffalo, where they could've built an entertainment district around the stadium . Oh well, it's business as usual I guess .
Put any public funding up to a vote of the taxpayers. Cleveland has a lot of critical issues not related to improving the profitability of a single billionaire.
You gonna lose the Cleveland Browns again! Do you want to see them move again like the old Browns are the Baltimore Ravens? You have an NFL team you keep that NFL team.
The title to your video is misleading. I understand the Haslams would 100% pay for the stadium and other projects on the property. The taxpayers [Ohio, and Cuyahoga County or some sort of regional funds] would pay for the surrounding road, rail, airport upgrades. All this will be spelled out in due time in the coming months. I support this effort for our region because it involves much much more than just 10 football games in a calendar year.
The sports and entertainment landscape has progressed dramatically over the last 25 years. I agree with the gripes but the state not just the Cleveland area needs something like this. It would host at least 1 Superbowl, CFP playoff/National Championship Games, Wrestlemania, Final Fours, I'm not a fan but Taylor Swift skipped Cleveland on her record smashing world tour. Something like that would never skip Cleveland again. This complex would bring in so much revenue to the area. Plus it would vastly improve Cleveland and Ohio's image globally. Also from a diehard Browns fan perspective, you notice they always have trouble with having a good QB? The wind swirls in all directions in Cleveland Browns Stadium. A dome would help the QBs and kickers dramatically. I don't want to hear the cold weather gives us an advantage crap. They got stomped in -30⁰ windchills to a southern dome team Saints 2 years ago. If they don't get this done they're stuck on the lake until the 2050's and not attracting anywhere close to the amount of big time events a new dome would. And the Bengals would probably build a similar concept and southwest Ohio would get all that extra revenue instead of northeast Ohio.
The city is broke and has far more pressing needs. The Haslams could pay for it themselves. Why do they need handouts when they just received 14 billion for Pilot?
