Not always. I might not be able to name 6 songs on whatever album I consider classic. But once you start playing album I'm rapping damn near word for word the majority of that album. Example: Juvenile - 400 Degrees

Watch The Throne is a classic album of that time it dropped for sure, but that also was a time where a lot of quality albums and mixtapes were getting dropped(Sorry 4 The Wait dropped around the same time I think). I grew up in San Bernardino CA, nowhere near NYC or Chi but me and my homies bumped that shit and everyone else in the city. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing Watch the Throne, Sorry 4 The Wait or Rich Forever

Classic albums to me are albums that either doesn’t have skips or maybe 1-2 skips. The album also has to age well. Now some people will say it’s based on the culture at large recognizing it as a classic.

If you're in the business of discussing the quality of things and giving your opinion on other's work, it's nice to be able to understand a person's reasoning for liking or not liking something. Without a way to understand, even if we agree in general we can't be confident we agree for the same reasons. It's easier to do when the thing being discussed is technical, rigid. Things like music are harder to articulate, but if you're skillful you should be able to. Doesn't mean you'll change hearts and minds, but at least those that care to can understand why they do or don't agree, if they care.
Watch The Throne is a good album I don't think it's a classic though.

To me it’s a top 5 most important album of the 2010’s
American Gangster was definitely what made me look at him neutrally, but I do enjoy him now as an adult. That album was the reason.
I like American Gangster waaay more than WTT. Hov was in his bag & that production was top tier!

Ice is clearly bugging. Many ppl can name classic albums without naming 6 tracks from their favourite albums, it doesn't negate that album it's classic status. Ice to me has too much recency bias even with his Lauren Hill takes and his music takes on the podcast at times is dodgy at best.

I think we all need to get on the same page as whats a classic. Im with Ice that album is not a classic I dont even think those songs was classic they are just great songs but 10 to 20 years from now I doubt anybody is going to be listening to that album or those songs. When I think of classic albums I think of PAC all eyes on me, Biggie Ready to Die. Ushers Confessions. MJ Thriller 50 cent Get Rich or Die Trying.I can go on. Now those are Albums that are 20 plus years old and we can still play today. A classic song Nelly Hot in Here you play that in the club today and it still gets off lol. I think a real classic is determined by age if we still go back to it. Maybe in another 5 to 10 years if we still playing it then its a convo to revisit

Also if we’re being honest watch the throne really did start a wave for collab albums. There really were none before watch the throne then mfs saw there was success in this. To me this album def paved a way. Again this coming from someone that was 13-14 at the time but it was also a time where I left radio hits and started focusing on albums and I’m just saying man we wouldn’t have the collab albums we have now if it weren’t for watch the throne.
