Please, Please, Please, 🙏 do book 2 & 3!!!! Absolutely enjoyed how detailed and informative the dates/timelines were. Patiently impatiently waiting...😔
I'm assuming that there was a two-week time gap between Waterbending Master and the finale episodes due to the phase of the moon being crescent then becoming full. It always made sense to me because no way Katara became a master over a couple of days.
Great video! I loved how detailed everything is. Have you ever considered redoing any of your previous Avatar Versus match-ups? Hint: *Iroh vs. Tenzin* and *Azula vs. Zaheer.* Normally, even when I disagree with your overall verdicts (which isn't that often), I can understand the points and arguments you are making, but those two match-ups never made much sense to me and always leave my head scratching how you came to the conclusions you did. Anyway, very glad to see you are back and looking forward to more Avatar content!
So on my birthday, Iroh forces Zuko to change course for a Lotus Tile, there's shopping with pirates and Katara yells at Aang nearly making him cry. Then for Christmas, we meet Jet who will turn out of be treacherous warrior, and Aang says Pipsqueak's name is funny :3
Very well detail analysis, Antoine very well done. I am glad you are back and I can't wait for more future Avatar vids. On the side note, the only thing irritating in this show is how the main characters are able to "master" their bending craft so freaking fast. The only character who has to struggle to master a bending art is Zuko and Aang with Earthbending. And those are my two favorite character's in ATLA. By the way, how is your writing career going so far Antoine?
I agree. That happens with a lot of short-form media. I have the same gripe for Luke in SW (and even more so with Rey, of course). The only one who's power accession in that movie makes sense is Anakin and he should be the one who is the most God-tier lol. Writing is slow-going. I'm trying to start up a second YA series that can release a bit faster than these epic fantasy adult stories I sort of tripped into lol.
I did some calculations, and here’s what I got: The world is 4900 km in diameter (about the size of Endor or Mercury) The Earth Kingdom is about 9 million square kilometres, about the size of China The Fire Nation, each of the Water Tribes and the Air Nomad Islands combines are about 1.2 million square kilometres each. The total population of the world is around 500 million. The Earth Kingdom has a population of 450 million (around 10 million in Ba Sing Se), the Fire Nation has 55 million, the Water Tribes combined have 4 million and the Air Nomads are about 1 million (before the genocide).
Daniel Moolman are you accounting for the area that should be between the east and west temples? Those are unknown because we only see one (half?) of the world. Unless it has an edge there is more to the planet then is shown in the map.
Huh, I wonder if the phases of the moon in the show line up with the dates here, or in the future... Assuming night 59, January 25 is the full moon in the Siege of the North, and a moon-cycle takes ~29.5 days, the previous full moon should have been on December 26/27 ish, during the Jet episode. And I just checked, and it does show a full moon in that episode, on the establishing shot of the night Sokka sees them sneaking off to set up the explosives on the dam, the night of December 26 on your timeline! That specific point in time fits perfectly.
Actually, going back maybe it's not so good. Here's what I found looking through a few episodes: (1,6) Imprisoned -- Full-ish moon, about a third of the way through (1,7) Winter Solstice, Part 1 -- Crescent moon on the right side (waxing), both in the middle and end (1,8) Winter Solstice, Part 2 -- Full moon, both at the start and end -- probably a mistake, inconsistent with the waxing crescent before and after (1,9) The Waterbending Scroll -- Crescent moon on the right side (waxing), in the middle (1,10) Jet -- Full moon, in the middle (1,15) Bato of the Water Tribe -- Full moon, near the beginning (1,18) The Waterbending Master -- Crescent moon on the left side (waning??), near the beginning, late middle, and end (1,19) Siege of the North, Part 1 -- Nearly full (waxing), in the middle and second half (1,20) Siege of the North, Part 2 -- Full moon Probably the worst mistake is the transition between Winter Solstice Part 1 and 2, where Part 1 ends with a shot of a thin crescent moon, but Part 2 begins with a shot of a full moon. So maybe they weren't paying attention, and the full moon in episode 10 was accidental / a coincidence.
A way to measure the speed of fire nation ships is to compare Appa and zuko’s ship at full speed on the episode The Winter solstice part 2 when they pass Zhao’s giant wall of fire nation ships
20:07 To be fair, when he says "This is the year...", I would have accepted if it was still December. It could also mean within the next 365 days (technically in about 9 more months or so), so I wouldn't call it an inconsistency if it was still December. Just saying. lol
great video! very detalied and liked the idea! only have one issue between episodes 18 and 19: I believe your idea of a 2 day journey for team Avatar to the Northern Water Tribe is acurate, but we don't know from where Zhao sails with his fleet. Personally, considering the last time we see Zuko before his ship was destroyed (episode 15 - day 39) and Zhao's last sight (episode 16 - day 41), I think the fleet sailed from a place closer to the village from "The Desserter" than to the Northern Air Temple. So, I would add a few more days between those episodes, which only alter the final result to a little bit more than two months, and the amount of time Katara trained under Master Pakku (which IMO deserves a Vs video, maybe a "Pakku vs Book 3 Katara" or "Pakku vs Unalak"). Honestly, maybe a week between episodes is not a bad idea, so the final result would be 64 days. Other than that, great analysis, looking forward to your other videos and welcome back to youtube
The reason I don’t believe this is the case is because of the Lost Adventures comic called Relics. Zhao is clearly already near the northern air temple.
Antoine Bandele You’re welcome, I’ve agreed with every single one of your Avatar vs videos, and was very impressed in how this video came out. Really interested to where it goes next.
@@AntoineBandele it's TRUE. I think many people stick way too much to nostalgia or character favoritism from the original series. Even your Toph vs Kuvira brought up some interesting points I didn't even consider.
When I first watched the show for some reason I thought the series took place over 1 summer because when Roku said by summers end I thought it was the first day or a couple days before the beginning of that summer
Well, both mine and my brothers birthdays hold significance relating to ATLA, his birthday, the 21st of February, was when ATLA first aired, and well, my birthday is “the 1st day of the 8th month” so If the day of black sun is August 1st then BOOM
What I don’t understand is if avatar takes place a few months how didn’t the characters age their ages are revealed the same from the beginning to the end but nice video bro
I always thought book 1 took place during the beginning of the winter season and ended by the time spring came then book 2 went to spring to summer book 3 summer to fall
I always got the impression that the gaang was at the northern water tribe for several weeks at least. I doubt one becomes a water bending master in a few days. And the progression of katara specifically in terms of water bending ability to me would imply a longer amount of time. I figured there was a time jump of a couple weeks between the water bending master and seige of the north.
While I agree that makes far more sense there is no indication of weeks passing by. At most, it was for one week. We know that Zhao was at the northern coast and it wouldn't take his fleet weeks to travel from that coast to the northern water tribe. But Avatar has always had the issue of their characters mastering this or that far too quickly. Take Sokka's sword training with Piandao, for example. After one day of training, he was already allowed to make his sword and be on his way.
@@AntoineBandele You can't seriously compare Sokka's training with Katara's ludicrous waterbending progression. Sokka was already an experienced fighter before his training with Piandao and it's not like he gained some insane level of skill in swordsmanship, like Katara did in waterbending. He became proficient with a sword, sure, capable of beating regular fodder with it (something which he was able to do even without a sword and before his training with Piandao). Also, don't forget, Sokka's sword is pretty unique when it comes cutting power, being able to slice through solid steel without a hitch, which further boosts his overall effectiveness in combat. It's called Space Sword for a reason. Moreover, Iroh's workout sessions are shown in the same episode and I genuinely doubt that all of it (Sokka's training with Piandao, Iroh's workouts) took place in just one day. Personally, I think it's safe to say the events depicted in the episode lasted about a week or two. Unless you have a direct source stating otherwise. Meanwhile, Katara became a full-fledged waterbending master in the span of a few months. Supposedly on the level of other prodigious masters like Aang, Azula and Toph, who all trained and practiced for YEARS to achieve their immense levels of mastery, despite also being prodigies in their respective elements like Katara is in hers. I mean, Katara is a great character but her waterbending progression makes no sense. The only thing more ridiculous than that is Zuko's "training" with the dragons which equates to unlocking cheat codes for a video game. He just stares at some rainbow colors for 60 seconds and not only does he regain his firebending, but he can suddenly bend even better than he did before.
Living in alaska really isn't that bad. In Interior you get full sunlight in the summer and 3 hours of sunlight in the winter. Living in barrow its not quite that way, you get continuous night for weeks. I dont recommend trying to visit from October to about February.
In 17:39, you say Jet will destroy "his own home" and kill "his own people". Gaipan is not Jet's home, he lived in a seperate village that got burned down by the Rough Rhinos.
Comment: it would close to 10-12 days between “The Waterbending Master” and “Siege of the North Part 1”. The moon at the end TWM is a waxing crescent and nearly a full moon at the start of SotN Part 1.
There is no way it only took 3 days for the fleet to get to the NWT. Appa is definitely faster than a Fire navy ship. Plus I'm pretty sure it would take Katara longer than 3 days to improve that much as a Bender. I would've placed their time in the North as anywhere from a week to three weeks between episodes..
My main problem with this is the day/night cycles that we see during 'The Siege of The North'.. If it was truly only 50 some days since they were in the South Pole where it was 'day' 24/7, it should be 'night' 24/7 if it was only 3 days that they spent there. With this in mind, I believe that Katara and Aang spent more than 3 days training with Paku (spelling?). Thoughts?
Northern Water Tribe is not in the true north like in the south pole (when we look back to the globe). That is why their day and night look like the more traditional day and night because their sun is actually passing over the horizon.
The Midnight sun and Day long night dont really happen in South Central Alaska, i.e Anchorage. It's close but not quite the same as in Barrow, we can get upwards of 20-21 hours of pure sun and 4-3 hours of moon light. These concepts do happen in places far up north, like Barrow, White Horse, and even Fairbanks.
@@AntoineBandele Barrow is still a town that needs to get things done, so you'll find that people are only limited to getting things done when the town is at its brightest, i.e when the sun is nearest to the horizon, however their industries they have shut down during the winter e.g fishing and construction. So during the winter only way they could work would be when natural light is at a maximum and/or using artificial lights

Actually, going back maybe it's not so good. Here's what I found looking through a few episodes:
(1,6) Imprisoned
-- Full-ish moon, about a third of the way through
(1,7) Winter Solstice, Part 1
-- Crescent moon on the right side (waxing), both in the middle and end
(1,8) Winter Solstice, Part 2
-- Full moon, both at the start and end
-- probably a mistake, inconsistent with the waxing crescent before and after
(1,9) The Waterbending Scroll
-- Crescent moon on the right side (waxing), in the middle
(1,10) Jet
-- Full moon, in the middle
(1,15) Bato of the Water Tribe
-- Full moon, near the beginning
(1,18) The Waterbending Master
-- Crescent moon on the left side (waning??), near the beginning, late middle, and end
(1,19) Siege of the North, Part 1
-- Nearly full (waxing), in the middle and second half
(1,20) Siege of the North, Part 2
-- Full moon
Probably the worst mistake is the transition between Winter Solstice Part 1 and 2, where Part 1 ends with a shot of a thin crescent moon, but Part 2 begins with a shot of a full moon.
Not really. Because Appa was operating at full speed there and he wouldn’t always be going at that speed. Most times Appa travels at a casual rate.
20:07 To be fair, when he says "This is the year...", I would have accepted if it was still December. It could also mean within the next 365 days (technically in about 9 more months or so), so I wouldn't call it an inconsistency if it was still December. Just saying. lol

When will the timeline of book 2 come out. I know it takes time to produce, but maybe you know when you think it will be uploaded
About two weeks out.
It's now live for those who are on my e-mail list: antoinebandele.activehosted.com/f/1
I need part 2 and part 3
They’re coming. These take a lot of time to produce. Next Avatar vid will be a Which Lightsaber Form: Zuko to help with weekly buffer.

You are finally back yes. Hey how do you write a empty character?
Empty character?
@@AntoineBandele a character with no substance but like still there
I’ve not idea. Never heard of that.
@@AntoineBandele well I guess a challenge awaits. Thanks. Before I go can you tell me what the opposite of a Phoenix is? The question is confusing me.
Well, both mine and my brothers birthdays hold significance relating to ATLA, his birthday, the 21st of February, was when ATLA first aired, and well, my birthday is “the 1st day of the 8th month” so If the day of black sun is August 1st then BOOM
For Zhao:
YOU
F**KED
UP!!!!
10:34 i can hear that image
What I don’t understand is if avatar takes place a few months how didn’t the characters age their ages are revealed the same from the beginning to the end but nice video bro
So you mean to tell me, katara basically becomes masterful in water bending after recieving training from a master in 3 days. Yeaah nahh
I always thought book 1 took place during the beginning of the winter season and ended by the time spring came then book 2 went to spring to summer book 3 summer to fall
The series should end around Sept 21 or 22 considering those are the dates that end the summer.
WELL I'M HERE
I always got the impression that the gaang was at the northern water tribe for several weeks at least.
Also, why is it that during episode transitions, the narrator sais "Book 1", instead of "Chapter Number"?
That’s how it’s written in the script. We can switch it up to chapters. Or possibly it’ll make more sense when Book 2 and 3 vids are done.
This must have been addressed, but you skipped from day 51 to day 53 between January 18 and January 19.
Living in alaska really isn't that bad. In Interior you get full sunlight in the summer and 3 hours of sunlight in the winter. Living in barrow its not quite that way, you get continuous night for weeks. I dont recommend trying to visit from October to about February.
I live in Washington and when it is winter the sunrises around seven and sets at four
I mean the Cherokee (i think i spelt that wrong, if i did, I’m sorry) was a, indigenous tribe, but their territory was enormous
In 17:39, you say Jet will destroy "his own home" and kill "his own people". Gaipan is not Jet's home, he lived in a seperate village that got burned down by the Rough Rhinos.
His own people is a collective. In the same way Kyoshi Islanders and Makapu villagers are the same people.
@@AntoineBandele oh ok. So cool, you keep up with the comments man! I also commented on the reddit post.
Can you do a video against the Red Lotus vs Team Aang Team Avatar.
Comment: it would close to 10-12 days between “The Waterbending Master” and “Siege of the North Part 1”. The moon at the end TWM is a waxing crescent and nearly a full moon at the start of SotN Part 1.
When are you going to do Book 3?
For your vs series, can you do the blue spirit vs sokka. No bending just sword training since they were both trained by master pian dao
Already happened in Lost Adventures: Swordbending.
i've been wondering because i assumed the show took place around 7-9 months ish but i've heard it was a few months and a few years so idek
Definitely not a few months and definitely not a few years.
whens ep 3 coming out?
See pinned comment.
@@AntoineBandele i subscribed to the thing!
So Jet was the Christmas special all along. wow.
As in the full idea, no sun for a few months and no night time for a few months
That does happen in northern Alaska
That’s crazy. Do people stay indoors more often than not?
The example I used was from Barrow.
When’s book 2 out?

Thanks
Hey what do you think about Hama vs Iron.
Considering she can’t metalbend, I’d say she’d have a hard time with iron. 😜
Huh. 2 months. Sweet!
The real question is how many miles per hour dose Appa fly?
😂
Antoine Bandele, really it’s my biggest question
Antoine Bandele, my guess is about 35
But since the avatar world is smaller than ours most likely it can go farther than if you where traveling 40 in our world
when is season 2 coming out?
Still working on it (I’m no longer a full-time RUclipsr). Hoping it can be done in a week or two.
Could you please do a video on the Equalists clothes and the fire nations clothes of War
Have you made a timeline video for Book 3: Fire?
Nope. Series didn't generate enough views for the effort.
@@AntoineBandele on no! That's sad! Really enjoyed Book 1 and 2 - reaaly applaud the effort you've put into researching and presenting it!
didnt aang was in the avatar state for 100 years in the ice?

Midnight sun madness? In my language they translated "moon insolation"
Dude you work for jkp right I watch a lot of your videos but I didn't know you worked for jkp . Btw I love jkparty so much 💖💗💖

How did you know what date the series starts?
13:45
Antoine Bandele you should’ve stated that at the start of the timeline, it felt like you just got November 29th out of nowhere, still liked
“Katara is denied because she has boobs” hahah🤣😂
