- On Wednesday, Granby parents and community members voiced their concerns about a controversial pride video shown to students at Wells Road Intermediate School last week at an intense Board of Education meeting.
A packed room up to standing room only, parents, students, and citizens of Granby speaking out over a Pride-Month-themed video being shown to students grades three through five last week.

Kids should not be forced to learn about sex and gender. They should be learning about computers, how to fix a car, how to be respect to their teachers, how to pray to Jesus. This is wrong. They don’t want to notify the parents because they want to secretly groom the children.

Very soon there will be children rights. And children will be able to divorce their parents and learn about sex any way they want.
The whole issue here is that parents weren't notified that the video was going to be shown to their kids, nor were they given an option of not having their child watch it. Why was it a problem to notify the parents to begin with? When the school superintendent was asked that question, she simply said she didn't have to notify them. This is overreach in the school's part. The parents should have been given the option of whether or not they wanted their child to watch it.

When I was in school, there was a one week long “sex Ed” class, but notes went home a month prior and parents had to sign if they wanted their child to attend. THATS how it should be done. When did basic learning turn into emotional learning? I don’t understand why schools/superintendents/teachers now think they don’t have to say anything. When did the power shift from parents having final say over their child’s education? How do we get back to schools honoring families? The fact that they didn't notify parents ahead of time is appalling. Parents didn't even have a CHOICE to keep their kids at home that day. When I was teaching, I wasn't allowed to show a PG movie without a parent's signature. These school districts are setting themselves up for a lawsuit. Parents, keep standing up for your kids!

I live in Connecticut and I'm disgusted with how this state is represented. They have put pride, flags, front and center at the Capitol building and remove the POW MIA flag. The stars and stripes is now lower and to the side of the pride flag. As a veteran. I'm very saddened to see this in my home state

That video should have been the last straw for every parent in the school. You cannot send your children to school to be indoctrinated and then expect them to uphold the values that you work so hard to teach them.
I'm part of the LGBT community.........this does NOT belong in schools. True there will be some of the students who are not straight, but if you raised children to be respectful to those who are different without going into the details of that difference...everything will be fine for everyone.

As a Granby parent I am livid. It is my job to educate my children about sexuality and gender, not some teacher or administrators. And the new superintendent best follow through with Grossman’s assurances.

@@SacredWaves I'd be careful of causing more harm than good trying to home school. My cousin home schooled her youngest and she wasn't great at teaching. He went feral and so far behind his peers that he had to re-enter the school system at a significant shortfall in progress. Since going back he has worked damned hard to catch up and is now doing great. Might be better just to keep the school/parent dialogue open - that, to me, is a much better way than homeschooling.

Our small, conservative, predominately Christian/Catholic town just had a city council meeting where one of the items on the agenda was discussing a local Pride event planning to host a "family friendly" drag show for all ages and whether or not the city would place age restrictions on them. Despite video evidence of last year's show proving to be unfit for child audiences, over 600 signatures on a petition, and 5x more citizens/parents speaking against the drag show at the meeting than those who showed up in support, the city council's position is basically "it's too late to do anything about it this year." If it's happening here, it could happen anywhere. Parents have to stand up!

There was a time when an activity or trip required a parent signature for consent. There were activities that my mother didn't want me to take part of and she was told in written letter what, where, when. On those days, I was staying home with her. Consent is necessary and a violation of that right should be punishable by law. Let kids be kids and let parents decide what they can be exposed to. Period.

I'm starting to questioning the American way of education. The way Asian educate the children seems more sense now. More focus on the child's brain on solving problems, skills and etiquette, being polite to others and the elders, etc. Sex education will be introduce way later when they are around 12yo. Before that, it's each parents responsibility to slowly inform the differences of the gender. And we only teach them 2 genders, girls and boys. Coz' that's the reality. Transgender, lesbian or gay, they're all either have penis or vagina. That's it.
What’s even more wrong is that these kids are Prepubescent and are way to your to be able to analyze what that actually means. Bunch of sick people out there absolutely disgusting.

It´s very interesting, how the schools insist on the premise to teach people "the diversity of people in the world" however most students and people in the USA, DON´T REALLY KNOW ANY GEOGRAPHY, or actual diversity of cultures, about Muslims, or asian cultures or any of the history of the world or even the indigenous cultures that populated the land before the US was the US, and what about the Navajos,, or the Celtics or the Vikings, I mean, there are many tribes in Africa worth it of teaching the kids about. I believe Gays are awesome and a substantial part of our society, however, to teach a leftist agenda es just wrong for kids' minds. The world knows that Americans know nothing about anybody, so, it´s clearly not about the "diverse" things of the world, but a political tactic.

Parents should have a say in what their kids learn about,and have the right to opt their children out of pride,gender and LGBTPQ stuff instead of it being forced on the kids and families. People shouldn't be punished for disagreeing with it. They want equality? Well those whose religious beliefs or personal beliefs differ from the LGBTPQ community and gender teachings should have the right to free speech and opinion. It's a school's job to teach HOW to think. Not WHAT to think.
