      Quality strength in depth is what wins world cups. That's why SA do well. Ireland have a lot more strength in depth than they used to have but they're never going to be at South Africas level on that front. Along with the Pumas, SA are the only tier one side with no foreigners or project players. Plus, they supply a lot of other sides with SA players. Look at Scotland.

      But the last time they played, it was outside the international “game window”, meaning SA was without those that play in Europe, a week after only just losing to France, with only 14 men. Meaning it was about half the team, at the last game, at the end of a year long season, that was transitioning from SuperRugby to the URC. And probably half the “stars” in Irish club rugby are either Saffas or kiwis. And that’s without looking at the nationality of the Irish clubs coaches. And none of the SA club sides have the current Bok coach. So I don’t think your argument holds a hell of a lot of water.

    • @BobH-eh8wu
      @BobH-eh8wu Год назад

      You forgot to mention that SA have 8 times the playing population of Ireland and no one cares about rugby in Ireland. You also forgot to mention their pack is 100kg heavier than ours and they still struggle to beat us. And this coming from an NZ fan where rugby is a religion and you’re still diabolical. As soon as rugby went professional you went downhill fast because there no more amateur teams to beat😂😂

    • @BobH-eh8wu
      @BobH-eh8wu Год назад

      Also you have more foreign born players in your squad than Ireland. Probably any international side for that matter because all you do is poach Pacific Islanders. And don’t make excuses about the end of a long season they came over and got beaten. We were at the end of a long season and we absolutely smashed you twice in a row at home but then again New Zealand are trash so it’s to be expected. How does it make you feel that a country that has 100k playing population is number one in the world? When rugby is a religion in your country and you’re getting smashed by nations they don’t even care about the sport and barely play it that’s when you need to stop watching the sport. Your illusion of invincibility was shattered when other nations started taking the sport seriously and now you’re sitting there crying. You were trash the other night I was laughing my head off. Can’t wait to smash you in the quarters and laugh at you. No respect for a nation that puts their lives into a sport and gets smashed regularly by a nation that doesn’t even care about the sport. You’ll never come back from that. Move onto a new sport mate.

      I think England laid the blue print for beating a strong and solid team like South Africa, when they beat Argentina, Rather than going through 10 to 20 phases and tiring out and risking injuries just to get to the try line , go for drop goals at every available opportunity, with a competent kicker, we may only have to go through 3 to 4 phases to set us up for the drop goals thus nullifying their bomb squads and big men. These drop goals will add up and frustrate South Africa which may lead to south Africa holding on to the ball more and not kicking thus Ireland pinning them back in their own half. This will also keep our players that little bit stronger when defending which might make all the difference in keeping them out. usually I would advocate for keeping the ball and getting bonus points via tries, but perhaps we can switch it up each half. @bikeman9899

    A world cup cycle is 4 years. After the World Cup South Africa took a full year break break from rugby. We came back to beat the Lions. That tour was poor and we did not even have a 10 of you recall. We were not destroyed by Ireland regardless and even France with us having a red card. Note both teams were playing at home. Now I read comments from Irish fans using that game as a yardstick? You forget that even Scotland on that tour ran the Boks close! From that time they went on to improve to the "best Scotland team ever" but you also what happened in the rematch. One thing about the Boks, we evolve. In Ireland, France and Scotland we kicked a lot and you called us boring... we don't kick anymore meaning our tactics have drastically changed. The Boks are genuinely the one team that respects Ireland but does not fear it. Ireland has to worry about Scotland also... the Boks don't. Food for thought.

      No doubt the Boks are far better at peaking for WCs, my hope is Ireland are doing the same this year, genuinely think it's a coin toss, doubt we'll be able to deal with Scotland as easily as your boys did, that was impressive and only in 3rd gear. I'm not sure anyone who has watched SA the past 2 years can pigeon hole them, they've got 3 ways of playing and honestly they are as good as any team at each of them, it's going to be a proper test

    The big takeaway, having seen everybody in action now, is that Ireland can beat anyone. I am a lot more confident now. The erstwhile 'irresistable' Boks were held up by the brilliantly dogged Scots and while they still look very impressive yet, their rep has lost some of it's fear factor. Ireland can have confidence of beating them and topping the group, earning themselves the much preferred draw with an AB side in crisis in the QF's. Ireland's fitness was impressive against Romania and this will stand to them in an 80 minute wrangle with SA in cooler temperatures. While Romania was a training run, Ireland did brilliantly against a heavy team, opening space for forwards to score twelve tries. Total football! We can do this lads!

      Ireland beat Scotland 22-7 in the 6 Nations. 15pt difference. So, does that mean Ireland’s rep takes a dip. No, of course not. They’re a good side, so is Scotland. To be fair, I’m ok with you underestimating the Boks because that’s when they’re at their best. Anyway, two great sides should make for a proper test in 2 weeks time. Good luck.

      Nobody underestimates the Boks! I meant a dip in the fear factor which the Boks caused in their demolition of the AB's.
