Last time I've seen these episodes were as a teen over 10 years ago. Now I have a new appreciation for the quality camera work you've done, especially in survival situations. You make surviving and filming look so easy, which is a testament to your physical and mental stamina.

You can't underestimate the significance of this original series. It inspired people to get outside and learn wilderness skills. It also inspired people to be prepared for anything. Tip for people who want to try and light a piece of paper with a lens:
Should you have any kind of pen or ink with you, mark a spot on the paper (black will work best, obiously); any print will do, too. It will have a way easier time absorbing the light than the white paper.

There is no way that he could go that many days without any real food. Especially when he's carrying 60 lbs. of equipment. Berries and such are packed full of fructose and fiber (minor carbs), but I only saw him drink water once in the whole 48 minutes. He's really good, but this run into the Rockies bordered on insanity (even for Les Stroud). There's a younger version of Les (who is also Canadian) who likes to "be outside" in the worst of winter conditions. His name is Xander Budnick and he makes really short videos about his winter adventures outside. I can't think of where he got "the survival bug" except from Les Stroud. He's not as experienced as Les, but his Camera Equip. is more generational and is of better quality... but they both carry 60 lbs. without any problems. I was saving this video for a day like today.

I Love Les Stroud. He's the real deal, original bad ass and he can do it all, and keep me watching these episodes over and over. Thanks to drawing the genetic short straw, most of the time I don't feel well, the rest of the time, I'm in real pain, daily. On my bad days, I can't pay attention to a movie or a new episode, so I have these 5 or 6 people, artists that just soothe me. I can let Season 1 just run all the way through, doze, listen to a voice tat's come to feel like a friend. People like me tend to self isolate. As long as I have my dog, and my still barely functioning old laptop or cell phone, I can try to put my mind on the trail with Les, and not in a body that malfunctions and produces kidney stones and grit non-stop. That's just one of my illnesses.
I love zombie movies, and apocalypse/survival movies, and I always find myself thinking, Ok, zones of assessment, water, shelter, defense. . . why is it in every zombie movie people dress in shorts and tank tops? Maybe Les could do a series of horror movie situations and team up with like Eli Roth or Stephen King for episodes. Yeah, this is how m brain drifts.

He's legit in his survival. Whoever was bored enough to try to "expose" one of the very few decent people in the world who want to share valuable knowledge to a stupid, superficial world, clearly needs help. My brother in law worked for Les for 4 years. 100% legit. His crew stays within a far enough distance that he's completely alone but close enough that if there's a flare, they come. He would only use that if he broke a limb or contracted a severe illness that won't just pass in a few hours. Otherwise, he's surviving. He won't allow himself to die for the show, but he sure lets himself get close at times with the risks he takes.

I have often wondered about this shot myself, ever since I saw it the first time on TV back in the early 2000s, that shot is incredible, it’s at least half a mile away. I theorized that he left that camera there and it was picked up later (instead of going back and re-walking the glacier). I have no idea if it’s true but possible I suppose.

@@darcywade2711 it’s kind of comparing apples to oranges, Ed Strafford is a different style to Les but both are excellent in their own way. It’s also a personality difference which depends on whom you jive with the best. Personally I like them both and I think they’re great. I typically go towards Les because his style suits me better and who got me into survival. Now Ed maybe your cup of tea, totally great for you. Honestly it’s not a comparison as they’re both amazing at what they do.
