In this performance Donovan repeat the 1st verse "The Sun Is A Very Magic Fellow" to end the song after the 5th verse "A star is so very far away, love," where on the original recording the last verse Donovan sings these lines to end the song. A girl is a pillow for my sadness, She sings all my cares away. A girl is a pillow for my sadness, Sings all my cares away-ay-ay-ay, Sings all my cares away. Singing all my cares away-ay-ay-ay, Sing all my cares away. Loving all my cares away-ay-ay-ay, She sings all my cares away. Singing all my cares away-ay-ay-ay, Singing all my cares album: "The Hurdy Gurdy Man" (1968)

A very astute observation. Donovan varies his songs (lyrics and chords) each time he plays a song.
OK I liked Donavon, but this song is weak, something a younger teenager trying to learn his craft would write. But I suppose you have to start somewhere.

This isn't where he started. This is the fully evolved brilliant Donovan. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of some of his songs. This song has been covered by numerous other artists.
Brilliant song. You can still detect his Scottish accent in these early recordings.
This is one of my favourite Donovan songs. What a wonderful voice he has!
Haved loved this song since I first heard it in ‘68. The Hurdy Gurdy album is one of Don’s best.
Dud & Don? WOW, I clicked 'like' before even watching this! 😃
Happy Birthday Donovan, 74 today!!!!!😊🌼🎸♥🌻⛱🥂🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧

This is my happy song. Now I know it's just C and G capoed at the third fret.
Incredibly rare Donovan clip Devin! Thank you for posting this. ;)
Ugh he’s so beautiful 🥲
Celtic musical magic - simple and sweet ❤️
